Senior Communications & Public Affairs Executive

£40,000-£45,000 (dependent on relevant skills and experience) plus generous benefits 

Location – Hybrid working split between the Foundation’s office in London and home. This usually averages at two days in the office per week.

As Senior Communications and Public Affairs Executive, you’ll play a vital role in raising the profile of the Football Foundation and its funding partners, the Premier League, The FA and Government. Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, you’ll use your political insight and communications expertise to engage MPs, local authorities and key stakeholders, helping influence policy and showcase the impact of our investment in grassroots football. 

You’ll identify and tell powerful stories, securing positive media coverage and developing campaigns that highlight the difference our funding makes to communities across England. From drafting press releases and impact stories to managing MP visits and high-level briefings, you’ll ensure our voice is heard where it matters most. 

This is a fast-paced and rewarding role where you’ll combine your flair for storytelling with your public affairs know-how, building relationships that strengthen our mission to transform lives through football.

What can we offer you? 

The salary band for this role is £40,000-£45,000 per annum, dependent on relevant skills and experience. 

You will start with 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (which increases after 2 years), plus additional time off to volunteer. We are looking for someone to create engaging multimedia content and copy, and build and nurture positive community engagement. We now have an exciting opportunity for a Programme Officer, who will be central to the smooth delivery and coordination of the STEP In-Person Programme. You will work closely with a network of expert partners, including local authorities and NGOs, to ensure high-quality, accessible support is delivered within communities.

You will be responsible for a range of programme and partnership management tasks, including oversight of grant payments, data and impact reporting, delivery partner support, and internal training and induction. You will also contribute to the design and delivery of specialist strands of STEP, including our pilot programme for people seeking asylum and our Experts by Experience Board. You will work closely with the STEP Programme Manager to implement the programme’s current delivery and help shape its future direction into 2025 and beyond.

About you

I have a brilliant opportunity to join Chapter One, as their Digital Communications Officer, working for Chapter One, remotely in the UK. In this role you lead the development and delivery of the charity’s digital communications, ensuring their messages and campaigns are clear, engaging, and accessible across all platforms. The charity is a national gambling harm prevention organisation, which provides, training, education, advice, and resources. • Support with the delivery of a business development strategy for BSR that secures financially sustainable funding streams that support our drive to improve patient care

Relationship building and customer service 

• Provide exceptional and consistent relationship management with sponsors, partners and collaborators

Systems and compliance 

• Support our partners to maximise their impact

The Safer Futures programme supports people as they rebuild their lives following some of the most challenging experiences in life. The foundation fund work that provides direct support, we also back work that challenges and improves the systems surrounding them, systems that too often fail to provide stability, dignity or security.

This Grants Manager role is focused on refugees and people seeking asylum and navigating migration, as part of the Safer Futures programme.

For refugees and people seeking asylum, the journey to safety and stability is often met with enormous barriers. Even after gaining refugee status, many have just days to secure housing, income, and support. Without it, they risk homelessness, exploitation and exclusion.

We fund organisations that help people move from arrival to independence—through safe housing, legal advice, language support, education and pathways into work. We also invest in systemic change, supporting work that seeks to make the immigration and resettlement system fairer and more effective.

The Role
As a Grants Manager, you will play a central role in shaping and delivering funding that makes a lasting difference. You will assess applications, play a key part in decision-making, and build strong relationships with organisations across the refugee and migration sector. You will carry out policy research, deepen your sector knowledge, and visit funded organisations to learn directly from their work. You will also help us refine and improve our approach to grant making, ensuring our funding is as impactful as possible.

The Candidate
We are looking for someone who has experience in impactful grant making and who deeply understands the UK migration policy landscape and the challenges facing refugees and people seeking asylum. You will be an excellent writer and communicator, able to make a persuasive case for funding decisions. You will have a collaborative approach to grant making and value the role of networks and partnerships in achieving change. You will think systemically, recognising how funding can help shift systems, and you will be confident analysing the financial health of organisations to inform effective grant making. The successful candidate will be solution focused and committed to using their expertise in the migration field to contribute to the impact of the foundation.

Through their partners, they want to help young people not just get by but move forward with purpose. They also want to help create the conditions where young people shape the communities and systems around them too

The Role
The role of Grants Manager will work to support the successful delivery of grant within the Building Independence Portfolio. This includes the undertaking of grant application assessment, participation in application decision meetings and undertake visits to meet organisations working in this area. You will support this work by undertaking complimentary policy research, building a deeper sector knowledge to support the development and continuous improvement of the fund.

The Candidate
Successful candidates will come with experience, or understanding, of grant making, particularly with understanding of youth voice and systems change. They’re looking to bring someone in with a good understanding of the principles of good grant making. This includes knowing the terminology and grant making practices.  

Candidates will also need to come into the organisation with an understanding of how youth voice can shape work. The foundation want to strengthen organisations that do youth voice work well. Since becoming a charity focused solely on campaigning in 2019, Age UK London has adopted and implemented a new strategy. We have agreed campaign priorities; successfully changed policy at a London-wide and borough level; and adapted our finance, HR and IT systems to better support a campaigning charity.

The Board is looking for a new CEO to lead the charity through the next phase of its development, creating a new strategy to guide its campaigning work making London a better city for older people and to develop a sustainable income stream.

Key duties and responsibilities

· In conjunction with the board, lead the creation of a new strategy for the charity and develop and implement appropriate business and financial plans, with clear objectives and outcomes and to operationalise the strategy, ensuring all activities are aligned to achieve the strategy. 

· Develop and implement a new income generation strategy, including building relationships with funders, and strengthening and growing our individual giving programme to put the charity on the path to becoming financially self-sustaining.

· Work with the Campaigns Manager to continue the delivery of high quality campaigns to make London a better city for older people and position Age UK London; and ensure campaigns are grounded in evidence and the views and experiences of older Londoners.  

• Ensure that the Charity maintains relationships with all appropriate external stakeholders so that our campaigns are successful and the voices of older Londoners are heard in decision making, and to oversee the delivery of our external communications plan.
• Have overall responsibility for the lawful and efficient operation of the Charity including overseeing our outsourced finance function, governance; regulatory reporting; legal and regulatory compliance; HR, premises, insurances, IT and all other operational matters. 
• Maintain our relationships with local London Age UKs via our existing networks and regional structures.
• Ensure appropriate reporting to the board with necessary analysis, (risk/benefits/resources) clearly presented to allow the board to discharge its governance function.
• Line management of the Campaigns Manager and Marketing & Communications Officer.

Person specification

Experience

Essential 

• Experience managing the operational  and financial aspects of a small charity.
• Proven ability to build relationships with funders and secure grant income linked to campaigning activity.
• Practical senior level experience in campaigning to make sustainable change.
• Some experience of working directly with trustees is needed but this does not have to be as a CEO.

Desirable

• Experience acting as the “public face” of a campaigning organisation interfacing with the media, politicians and other stakeholders.
• Experience in the age sector.

• Ability to lead and motivate teams that work together to produce clearly identified outcomes.

About the role

This role will be responsible for providing business support for the directorate to support effective leadership and streamlined ways of working across Income Generation. 

The postholder will support the operation of the Income Generation Leadership Team (IGLT) and assist in various aspects of organisational administration and development. It will support IGLT to define and shape priorities and support implementation of priority initiatives.  It will ensure that IGLT’s time is prioritised effectively on delivering the most critical priorities and that follow-up activities are completed.

This role will need to foster and develop credible and respected relationships with all key stakeholders including in other directorates – to ensure visibility and engagement on high priority programmes.

What will I be doing?

No two days are the same at Young Lives vs Cancer. So, summarising your ‘day to day’ isn’t easy. Here are some of the main things you’ll be doing, but you’ll find more details in the job description.

• Provide business support to IGLT including: 
• Support for IGLT and Income Generation directorate meetings and follow-up 
• Support for business planning, projects, reviews and evaluations    
• Ensuring that all key reports for Income Gen directorate are efficiently delivered – with a particular focus at the moment on KPIs and quarterly reports for Exec, Board and internal audiences 
• Implement and monitor operational programmes, ensuring learning from past programmes of work is integrated.  
• Co-ordinate cross-directorate teams to ensure successful programme execution with timely delivery of initiatives and management of key dependencies.  
• Continually ensure risks to programmes of work are identified, assessed and mitigated.   
• Make sure robust controls are embedded and reported through regular monitoring systems.  
• Facilitate communication between teams to ensure transparency and alignment on operational goals. 
• Take responsibility for liaising with a wide range of stakeholders and contacts at all levels, on behalf of IGLT.

We are seeking a Researcher for a six–month fixed term position (starting as soon as possible), with a possible extension, to work on a number of projects.

The Role

The organisation is a Christian think tank which seeks a world in which Christian ideas about human flourishing are drawn upon to answer some of the world’s biggest challenges. They stimulate debate about the place of religion in society, challenging and changing ideas through research, commentary and events.

As Researcher you will work on mixed–methods research projects (potentially on subjects including recent interest in faith amongst young people, motherhood, and Christian Nationalism). You will work with the team to conduct literature reviews, design interview guides and questionnaires, identify and contact interviewees, conduct and analyse interviews, work on data analysis, project report write-ups and presentations.

About You

We are looking for someone with an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, proven ability to conduct in-depth interviews, some knowledge of quantitative research, excellent organisational and communication abilities, in particular to write research reports. You will also have an active interest and knowledge in the role of Christianity in contemporary Britain.
