WLS has an established and valued portfolio of Social Action and Interfaith activity, reflecting our commitment to making a positive contribution both within and beyond our congregation. We are now looking to build on this strong foundation, developing and expanding these areas to increase participation, strengthen partnerships and deepen their impact.

The Role

This newly combined role brings Social Action and Interfaith activity together under one postholder. The Programme Manager will be responsible for developing these areas strategically, growing participation and impact, building relationships and partnerships, and identifying new opportunities for meaningful engagement and community contribution.

The purpose of the role:

• To implement an integrated strategy for the delivery of WLS's Social Action and Interfaith activities, and the associated role of volunteers.

• To facilitate the smooth running and ongoing development of current WLS projects, alongside the introduction and implementation of new projects in these areas.

• To work with other members of staff, clergy and lay leadership to consolidate, and expand WLS's Social Action and Interfaith provision.

• To recruit, train, empower and retain an increasing number of community members as volunteers.

• To assist with funding applications and expense control relating to projects, working closely with the fundraising and finance teams.

Summary of Tasks

1. Social Action Projects

– Maintain and enhance existing social action projects, including the ongoing recruitment of participants and ensuring their financial viability, including cost control.

– Support the ongoing development of the WLS flagship Drop-in Programmes - for families seeking asylum and the Rainbow Drop-in for an LGBTQ population

– Develop a range of self-sustaining, hands-on social action projects for each age group at WLS, especially youth, students and young adults.

– Prepare timely reports, fundraising administration and formal feedback, as needed.

 

2. Interfaith Projects

– Execute and enhance our newly drafted Interfaith strategy, which focuses on education and awareness, grassroots initiatives, celebratory events and representation in the broader community;

– Attract and retain volunteers on an ad hoc basis for the interfaith initiatives;

– Work collaboratively with the community team and with the trustee responsible for Interfaith.

3. Experimental & Cross-Cutting Projects

– Identify, develop and lead selected new initiatives that align with WLS's strategic priorities and community needs

General Responsibilities

· Develop, maintain and manage an annual programme plan for Social Action and Interfaith activity, ensuring that projects and initiatives are aligned with WLS’s strategic priorities and community needs.

· Establish appropriate measures and processes to assess the reach, participation, outcomes and wider impact of programmes, regularly reviewing performance and using insight, feedback and data to improve existing activity and inform the development of new initiatives.

· Identify opportunities to increase the reach, relevance and impact of Social Action and Interfaith programmes, ensuring that activity continues to respond to the needs and interests of the WLS community and the wider community.

· Develop and manage a strong volunteer programme, including recruitment, induction, training, support, recognition and retention, and create meaningful opportunities for members to contribute their time, skills and experience.

· Manage relevant programme budgets including planning expenditure, monitoring income and expenditure, and ensuring that activity is delivered within agreed budgets.

· Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, community organisations, faith communities, charities and other external partners, identifying opportunities for collaboration and developing new initiatives where appropriate.

· Collaborate with the engagement team to develop and implement appropriate communications and engagement plans to promote programmes and encourage participation.

· Attend and contribute actively to regular staff meetings, Board and committee meetings, and relevant project and working groups, providing updates on programme development, progress and impact as required.

· Contribute to the wider life of WLS, including festival celebrations and other community activities, as appropriate to the role.

· Support the development and implementation of WLS’s vision, policies and procedures, particularly in relation to Social Action and Interfaith activity involving adults, young people and children.

· Maintain awareness of, and ensure compliance with, all relevant regulations and WLS policies relating to safeguarding, particularly when working with children and vulnerable adults.

· Contribute to the development of funding and income-generation opportunities, including grants, sponsorships and partnerships, where relevant to the programme.

Person Specification

Essential

• Proven experience of managing projects and/or volunteers, with a track record of managing a varied workload and conflicting priorities to deadline.

• Experience of, or a strong interest in, social action and/or interfaith work.

• Excellent organisational skills and strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office 365.

• Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to prepare clear reports and communications.

• Outstanding interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated ability to relate well to a diverse audience across all ages within the community.

• Demonstrated ability to balance the expression of views and values with respect for all.

As an Admiral Nurse, you will provide specialist dementia care and support to families, working closely with carers as they navigate the emotional, practical, and psychological impact of dementia.

Your role will focus on improving the quality of life for both people living with dementia and those who care for them. From pre-diagnosis and early stages through to more complex and advanced care needs, you will offer expert guidance, helping carers understand the condition, respond to changing behaviours, and manage the challenges that dementia brings.

You will play a key role in supporting carers through significant transitions—adjusting to diagnosis, coping with loss, and adapting to changing relationships—ensuring they feel supported, informed, and able to provide compassionate, person-centred care.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide specialist dementia assessment and support to carers, including home visits

What the job involves

We’re looking for a Junior Developer to join our Technology and Solutions team and help colleagues across the charity make better use of data, systems and automation. You’ll work alongside our small development team, reporting to the Product and Delivery Manager and supported by experienced technical colleagues.

You’ll contribute across the full development lifecycle, from understanding requirements and writing code to testing, deployment and support. You’ll develop and maintain software applications and automation, troubleshoot issues, document solutions and respond to first-line requests involving data development and analysis. You’ll also help improve SharePoint and Microsoft 365 processes and work with tools such as Microsoft SQL Server, PHP, Power Automate, TOCA.IO and Copilot Studio.

As our use of AI develops, you’ll help identify, prototype and test practical solutions that reduce manual effort and improve how teams work, while making sure they are accurate, safe, well documented and used with appropriate human oversight.

This is a hands-on development opportunity where you’ll build your technical skills, share learning and see the practical difference your work makes across the charity.

What we want from you

The Role
Policy Development Lead
We are looking for a Policy Development Lead to provide strategic leadership, coordination and expertise in proactive policy development across NDCS. This exciting new role will help us think beyond immediate policy activity, identify where system change is needed, and develop longer-term policy positions that are informed by evidence, specialist insight, lived experience and external practice.
The role will initially focus on Education, while retaining the flexibility to support wider policy development across areas such as early years, social care, health, benefits, sign language and other emerging priorities. The Foundation for Jewish Heritage is seeking to engage an experienced Learning and Engagement Consultant to support their project Preserving Jewish Heritage, Promoting the Hidden Jewish Story in the year-long Development Phase of its project and for the first six months (of a five-year programme) of the Delivery Phase of the project. The Consultant will support and advise the Synagogues in this first pilot on activities/outreach and education, ultimately creating a framework for future use as a core part of this programme. The Foundation’s work to date has demonstrated a significant gap in provision for historic synagogues. There is a clear need for a more defined and comprehensive support function for the UK synagogues sector: one that offers a professional, accessible and user-friendly service; guides and empowers synagogue communities; helps ensure synagogue buildings are well maintained, resilient and future-proofed, including in response to the climate emergency; and supports synagogues to engage more effectively with wider society. This project aims to address that gap.

The Delivery Phase project is subject to a successful funding application to NLHF and there will be a break clause between the Development and Delivery Phases.

For women facing multiple disadvantage, the right support can be the difference between remaining trapped by systems and beginning to rebuild safety, choice and control. As our Specialist Multiple Disadvantage Worker at Grace House, you’ll provide skilled, persistent and compassionate support to women whose experiences may include homelessness, domestic abuse, trauma, substance use, poor mental health and contact with the criminal justice system.

Using a gender and trauma-informed approach, you’ll build trusting relationships and work alongside women at their own pace. You’ll manage complex casework, advocate firmly on their behalf and help navigate services and systems that can often feel fragmented or difficult to access. You’ll use creativity, professional judgement and tenacity to challenge barriers and help women move forward on their own terms.

You’ll also bring your expertise into multi-agency discussions, ensuring women’s voices, experiences and priorities remain central to the decisions made about their support. Working closely with colleagues and external partners, you’ll help shape responsive, coordinated support and contribute to the continued development of practice across Grace House.

The EDIS Community and Engagement Officer will provide the coordination, communication and relationship-building needed to support the growth, participation and value of the EDIS membership community.

The role will support day-to-day member onboarding, engagement activity, communications, events and community-building processes across the EDIS portfolio. It will ensure that members are supported to connect with each other, contribute to EDIS priorities and access opportunities to learn, share and collaborate. You will work with the EDIS team and with BSA communications team colleagues to support their work.

A central focus will be building effective, inclusive and accessible routes for member participation. Working with EDIS members, partners and colleagues across the British Science Association, the postholder will help to ensure that engagement activity is joined up, responsive to member needs and focused on meaningful participation across the science and health research sector.
