We are looking for a new staff member to support our work to stop fossil fuels and help us fight fascism in our communities. 

The Engagement Officer role is all about convening and mobilising people into Fossil Free London: developing active organisers through a strong online engagement strategy and in-person local outreach.

We are seeking a flexible, organised, proactive self-starter to build a mobilisation campaign.

You are a strategic thinker focused on driving engagement by using data from our email list, social media followers, and welcome talks to route people into taking real-life action, particularly joining the group and donating to make our projects possible. 

You are a skilled creator of relationships that motivate people to take action. You are able to work with a wide pool of volunteers to deliver an active, influential, and effective campaign, and also able to work under direction. You have experience mobilising new audiences through digital platforms, and recruitment at events and on the streets.

You are deeply driven to organise climate action for urgent change, whilst being highly professional and able to deliver time and again.

You are able to plan around multiple competing priorities, whilst maintaining good attention to detail. Your experience of working in a fast-paced environment and effective communication to complete shared work means you are confident in delivering tasks on time and adapting a range of media to achieve campaign goals.

Who we are:

Fossil Free London is a welcoming and energetic grassroots organisation that opposes the presence of fossil fuel companies in our city, and stands against new UK oil and gas. We organise creative protest, with a focus on bringing new activists into the climate movement and amplifying our impact through social media and the news.

Key responsibilities: 

• Harnessing our mailing list to achieve campaign and fundraising goals 
• Developing a creative outreach strategy on multiple digital platforms to engage new audiences and drive recruitment: organising online events, website updates, advertising, social media, and Action Network 
• Securing coverage in local and specialist press for relevant events
• Onboarding and retaining members:
  • Phoning new activists to invite them to welcome talks and protests 
  • Creating, implementing, and maintaining a buddy system 
  • Keeping meticulous records to ensure activists remain involved and engaged, tracking what’s working and what isn’t
• Outreach at in-person events and protests, for example, collecting email sign-ups
• Assisting at / organising protests as part of a team, with resilience under pressure

Key skills and experience:

What we offer:

• £21,000 (0.6 FTE £35,000) annual salary for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal

Every year, 3,000+ swimmers take on some of the UK's most iconic open water challenges, including the Dart10k, Bantham Swoosh and The Hurly Burly along with our growing series of 24-hour Wild Swim Relays. They swim so that disabled kids who need it most can get life-changing swimming lessons.

We're Level Water, a founder-led charity solving learn-to-swim for disabled children. We're not your typical charity. We own the events and run them like a business.  We move fast, test everything, and we're building something that doesn't exist anywhere else.

We've just brought in a new Fundraising Director, and this role is a cornerstone of the team we're building. If you want to help define how a modern charity does supporter care, this is your chance.

The opportunity

This isn't a "send some emails and answer some queries" role. This is a "build something and make it brilliant" role.

You'll own the entire experience for our 3,000 swimmers from the moment they sign up, through their training and fundraising journey, to the event itself (yes, you'll be there), and beyond. You'll design the journey, execute it, measure it, improve it, and scale it.

You'll have the freedom to experiment. Want to test a new communication sequence? Build a WhatsApp community? Launch a training programme? Run in-person meet ups? Create a membership product? Brilliant, build the business case and let's do it.

You'll work with real people who are doing something remarkable. You'll get to know them, thank them, support them, and help them raise more money than they thought possible. And you'll do it in a way that makes them want to come back year after year.

You'll also work closely with our Fundraising Director, Events and Marketing teams to turn our swimmers into our best marketing channel, because the people who've experienced our events are the ones who'll bring their friends next year.

And you'll grow with us. We're scaling fast, and we need people who can scale with us, whether that's into senior leadership, building out new teams, or launching new products.

What you'll actually do

This role owns the supporter experience as a growth engine. You’ll set strategy, drive innovation, and be accountable for how supporter care translates into income, retention and long-term loyalty. You’ll work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to shape priorities, influence decisions, and build something that scales - not just for this year’s events, but for the future of Level Water.

Build relationships that matter

• Get to know our swimmers. Design the experience. Call them. Thank them. Make them feel valued.

• Be there at events throughout the summer meeting people, creating unforgettable experiences, and giving them reasons to come back.

• Deliver the personal touches that deepen connections: handwritten cards, phone calls, training tips, impact updates, recognition, celebration.

Design and optimise the supporter journey

• Own the end-to-end experience: from sign-up emails to post-event stewardship.

• Map out communications across our events portfolio throughout the year and execute them brilliantly.

• Use data to spot opportunities; where are people dropping off? Where can we increase average fundraising? What messages work best?

• Test everything. Buttons, subject lines, timing, tone obsess over the details that drive results.

Identify and unlock growth opportunities

• Spot the swimmers who could become major donors, corporate partners, or monthly givers and move them along that journey.

• Cross-sell and upsell: if someone's just completed their first challenge, how do we make them another offer that they can’t refuse? 

Track, report, and improve

• Keep our CRM up to date and use it intelligently.

• Report regularly on what's working and what's not: fundraising targets, engagement metrics, retention rates.

• Stay ahead of the curve: what are the best organisations doing? What can we learn and adapt?

Role Purpose:

The Clinical Director will provide strategic clinical leadership to the Restraint Reduction Network, ensuring that all initiatives, standards, and practices align with evidence-based approaches, human rights principles, and the goal of reducing restrictive practices across education health and social care settings. This role will champion best practice, influence policy, and support the implementation of RRN Training Standards nationally and internationally.

This role will also include delivering training, audits, working on projects that reflect areas of expertise and supporting organisations to restrictive practices through six core strategies.

Role Summary

· To be the clinical lead for RRN including leading our work supporting providers to improve via the six core strategies.

· To provide clinical leadership for the RRN  Partners Programme through acting as lead RRN consultant and delivering programmes.

· Working with the Director of Organisational and Workforce development to ensure programmes are effective and contemporary and evolves as practice evolves and improves with feedback

· Providing collaborative leadership of RRN in leading a restraint reduction movement across the British Isles and leading our RRN members community.

· Work with members of RRN Senior leadership team and board of trustees to ensure RRN is both sustainable and impactful in line with charities purpose

· Support RRN manager and associates to develop a range of resources ensuring that all RRN resources are:

o evidence based (linking with academics and universities)

o co-produced (with people with lived experience of restraint)

o protects human rights (linking with human rights organisations)

· Support and contribute to the continuous improvement of the RRN training standards and RRN Practice Leadership Diploma

· Act as an ambassador and spokesperson for the RRN, ensuring positive relationships with key stakeholders including charities, civil servants, professionals, academics and people with lived experience

· Ensure RRN develops its reputation as leaders in restraint reduction nationally and internationally and ensure internal culture reflects trauma informed practice we promote

· Work collaboratively with CEO to ensure clear strategy and internal culture reflects trauma informed practice we promote

· Ensure all resources and work undertaken by RRN reflect best practice in co-production with people with lived experience of restraint

· Supporting RRN associates with lived experience with clear expectations of their role and putting in person centred processes to minimise the impact of trauma through the direct work they do  for RRN and the interaction with the organisation.

· Contribute to the development of a Community of Practice

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

• Lead the clinical vision for restraint reduction across education, health and social care, ensuring alignment with RRN’s mission and values.
• Provide clinical leadership in ensuring all RRN activities are trauma informed and people with lived experience are provided with support then need to minimise risk of retraumatising.

Policy & Standards

• Ensure RRN Training Standards and resources are co-produced, remain current, evidence-based, and compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to national and international policy development on restraint reduction and restrictive practices.

Quality & Improvement

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including audits, research, and evaluation of restraint reduction strategies.
• Monitor and report on clinical outcomes and impact measures related to restraint reduction.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Build strong relationships with NHS Trusts, social care providers, special schools, regulators, and self-advocacy groups.
• Promote co-production with people with lived experience of restraint and their families.

Education & Workforce Development

• Support the development and delivery of RRN Diploma
• Provide clinical leadership for webinars, conferences, and professional development initiatives.

Research & Evidence

• Collaborate with academic partners to advance research on restraint reduction and disseminate findings.
• Ensure all RRN resources are evidenced based reflecting best practice from both research and people with lived experience.
