Experience of smoking cessation is desirable, but what's more important is an understanding of social prescribing and a commitment ot empowering inidviduals and communities.

The Role

We’re looking for a Culinary Chef Trainer for our brand-new purpose built Commercial and Training Kitchen in The Coronation Food Project Hub, Birmingham, helping combat food insecurity by providing affordable, nutritious surplus food in a dignified and supportive environment for underserved communities. In addition to catering skills, you will need to demonstrate a passion for reducing food waste through innovation and creativity. 

Working closely with FareShare Midlands Head of Operations you will develop and mobilise the kitchen and catering service(s) for The Coronation Food Project, enabling significant increase in FSM’s reach, support and impact in tackling food insecurity. You will play a lead part in managing our flagship Kitchen, producing high quality meals from surplus food as well as catering for large corporate events. We are keen to grow a Catering skills programme in line with our Employability strategy and you will need to play a key role in informing and shaping the training programmes.  Like most charity roles, this is as much a “hands on” as well as management role.

Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation and Cooking

• Plan, prepare and cook high quality, innovative meals in a timely manner for staff, volunteers, visitors and the public as well as larger catering events, ensuring variety, nutritional balance, and high standards of taste and presentation.
• Ensure all food is made according to the recipe and portion control standards
• Adapt menus based on seasonality and availability of surplus food
• Address any feedback or special dietary requirements to ensure a high level of satisfaction, improving offerings

Menu Planning and Development

• Develop and create new recipes in collaboration with the staff, volunteers and local organisations
• Innovate dishes that align with the organisations concept and demand
• Monitor food trends and implement them in the menu, while maintaining FareShare’s brand and ethos
• Create and deliver menus for corporate events

Training

• Develop and coordinate the delivery of catering skills and cookery courses to individuals of all ages and abilities within The Coronation Food Project Hub Kitchen, ensuring equipment, resources and ingredients are appropriate to each class
• Supervise members of staff & volunteers supporting the delivery of cookery classes
• Participate in staff reviews, appraisal and personal development scheme
• Undertake further training as required

Kitchen Management

• Oversee kitchen team, including training, scheduling, and managing their daily tasks.
• Ensure proper stock control, including the procurement of ingredients, maintaining inventory, and minimising food waste. 
• Manage food costs, portion control, and kitchen meeting budgetary requirements.
• Work to guidelines from key stakeholders such funders, Public Health etc. keeping up to date with changes in food policy, strategy and dietary advice. 

Health, Safety, and Compliance

• Implement, manage and monitor all food safety standards, policies and protocols including sanitation, food safety, storage and food handling and distribution.
• Oversee the cleanliness, organisation, and hygiene standards of the kitchen, ensuring compliance with HACCP, COSHH and food safety regulations, ensuring effective and timely liaison with Environmental Health Officers.
• Compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, with specific responsibility for the health safety and welfare of all personnel within their control.  
• Reports all accidents and/or incidents and near misses in accordance with the organisations’ procedures.

People Management

•  Working closely with the Head of Operations and Food, provide effective leadership, management and supervision to kitchen staff, volunteers, setting clear priorities and targets.
• Ensuring that staff and volunteers understand their role responsibilities in line with FSM overall mission and have the resources, capacity and capability to effectively undertake their duties.
• Ensure and support adequate training and development of staff and volunteers within the team.
• Participate positively in FSM people management processes ensuring organisation and team development, undertaking all aspects of line management responsibility including supervision, development and appraisals for teams.
• Ensure the service is delivered by teams in accordance with FareShare Midlands Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Staff Wellbeing Policies and maintain the values and culture of the FSM.

Person Specification

Essential Experience, Skills & Competencies

• Minimum of 3 -5 years in a Chef/Kitchen Manager/ CDP or similar role.
• Expertise in various cooking techniques and styles.
• Ability to engage with a diverse range of people including corporate guests with strong customer service skills.
• Strong leadership, time management, and organisational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.
• Knowledge of kitchen safety, food hygiene, and sanitation regulations.

About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead and oversee the strategic delivery of Care4Calais’ operational (direct aid provision) work across all regions. This is quite a newly created role that will play a central part in shaping the charity’s growth, resilience, and day-to-day effectiveness—ensuring our humanitarian aid reaches those who need it most.

The COO will work closely with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and Trustees, to develop internal systems, guide operational teams, maintain consistency across all projects, and strengthen our digital communications, training, safeguarding, and volunteer engagement. About You

You will need experience of working with people facing exclusion and disadvantage and in a multi-disciplinary context with partners, community groups and other agencies. A good understanding of housing law is essential, while experience of debt advice, support services and delivery of advice in a community setting would be useful. The communication skills it takes to line manage others and promote effective working relationships, with external agencies, people with lived experience and internally across Shelter, are key. You must be proficient in the use of a range of IT tools to carry out your work, including case management systems, Microsoft applications, internet and email.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the CEO, we are looking for an experienced charity finance person, with accountancy qualifications.  (CIMA,CIPFA, CCAB, ACCA, AAT etc)

This a pivotal role and the post holder will be a member of the Trust’s Senior Management Team, with responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the Trust’s finances, working closely with CEO and Board.

The role would suit someone who is motivated by the Trust’s purpose and who is good at building relationships. 

We are a home working charity which is committed to flexible working.  We are open to considering a range of working patterns for this 0.6 FTE role.

Main responsibilities

· Alongside external accountant, manage the maintenance of the financial accounting system and monthly accounting processes (BACS runs, Expenses, Accruals, Prepayments, Deferred Income, Payroll etc)

· Review management accounts and liaise with accountants over variances.

· Lead on annual budget process

· Maintain and report on regular forecasts throughout the year

· Monitor individual programme funding to ensure all spend is within budget

· Lead on annual audit and creation of statutory accounts by external accountants.

· Distinguish between Restricted and Unrestricted funding to ensure compliance is met and classification is correct

· Support and advise budget holders in matters relating to the financial management of their departments

· Provide financial input to assist with new funding bids and reports to existing funders and partners.

· Ensure appropriate systems and internal financial controls are implemented and maintained

· Responsible for some areas of governance including insurance, Companies House and Charity Commission registration

· Secretariat for the Finance and Audit Committee

· Attendance to SMT, Board and Finance and Audit Committee meetings, including production of relevant reports

The Opportunity

The Finance and Operations Officer’s purpose is to work within the Operations Team to provide essential financial and operational support for the whole charity.  
 

Key responsibilities for finance range from providing advice and support for the whole staff team, important day to day and monthly financial processing for key stakeholders and assisting with the budgeting and forecasting process. 

1. Finance

• Support the Finance and Operations Manager (FM) to prepare and deliver accurate and regular management information including monthly management accounts, budgets and forecasts, one-off finance reports, reporting for funders including grants and trusts, including end of project reporting. 
• Monitor the day-to-day financial management and cash flow of the Social Mobility Foundation (SMF) working closely with the FM, Head of Finance & Operations (HFO), Operations and Fundraising teams. 
• Prepare payment runs for invoices and expenses, update weekly payments received reports and work closely with the Fundraising team to ensure expected income has been received. 
• Support the FM, alongside our appointed accountants, to prepare audited Year End Accounts, and work to ensure the Accounts are completed, approved, and filed on time. 
• Support the FM to manage and improve our financial systems and procedures, streamlining internal processes to ensure they are effective and safeguard the finances of the organisation.  
• Support the FM to devise and implement effective and efficient procedures, including the introduction of a purchase order system. From time to time, you may be requested to support the FM to maintain the payroll function of the organisation. 

 
2. Operations and Administration 

• Support the organisation, in ensuring that all staff and volunteers are aware of and trained in the relevant Data Protection policy and procedures and ensure that data protection laws are being adhered to in relation to the storage of data. Run the data deletion process where such requests are received in compliance with GDPR legislation. 
• Support the HFO and FM in overseeing operational matters such as SMF office administration, maintaining the asset register, insurance renewals, and Health & Safety compliance; act as point of contact for suppliers and service providers, including property managers, utility companies, couriers and cleaners; maintaining contracts and leases with office providers; purchasing office supplies & equipment and ensuring adequate stock levels are kept. 
• Support the wider organisation through appropriate administrative tasks, for example the programme delivery team to ensure a good experience for students, particularly during the residential programmes 
• Support the HR team with processes such as ordering laptops for new staff and communicating, updating and maintaining office policies contained in the Office handbook  
• Undertake research activities to support Operations Team projects, for example potential new suppliers, benchmarking exercises and contract renewals 

3. Strategic Responsibilities 

• Support with training staff on finance processes, fraud awareness, data protection, and other areas of operations.  
• Being a point of contact for all staff on finance and operations including office administration 
• Ensure appropriate adherence to our financial and operational policies and procedures supporting the organisation to enact the highest standards, balancing that whilst processes are appropriately followed, they are not followed to the point where they compromise the standards or outcomes desired. 

Need to know

• IT skills:  Experience of using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel functions. Experience of using or awareness of any accounting and/or CRM (Salesforce) software.
• Accounting knowledge: Some understanding of basic bookkeeping would be preferable, including the importance of accurate and timely information for the running of the charity and an ability to maintain confidentiality.

This is a pivotal new role which sits firmly on the Executive Leadership Team and oversees the strategic direction, financial accountability, and best practice of our portfolio of projects and programmes.
