Job description

The British Psychological Society is the membership and representative body for psychologists and the wider psychological professions.  We're a forward-facing voice that helps to influence a psychological approach to policy-making that puts people first. We are seeking a Social Media and Online Communities Officer to join our friendly and supportive Digital team at the British Psychological Society, to cover maternity leave on a 12-month fixed term contract. This busy team is responsible for developing, testing, and implementing a strategy to reach and engage target audiences through digital channels like web, mobile, and social.

The role is responsible for:

  • Devising and delivering engaging content for social and online communities, ensuring consistency in terms of style, quality and tone of voice
  • Supporting the launch of new online communities for our members
  • Proactively exploring new and innovative visual approaches and techniques for storytelling on social
  • Keeping up to date with social algorithm and platform changes, testing and learning to optimise content and reporting findings to the team
  • Delivering video content that engages and educates, including explainers and case studies
  • Supporting the Social Media and Online Communities Manager in planning and implementing a member engagement strategy to drive increased engagement and member growth of the BPS’s online communities.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A passion for all things social media, and a knowledge of the latest trends and best practice
  • Demonstrable experience of online content development, including writing for online channels; able to provide examples of accessible, inspiring content which measurably drive action
  • Experience of digital asset creation using photo and video editing software (Premiere Pro, InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Experience of using a social media scheduling platform
  • Excellent written, verbal and visual communication skills
  • To be creative, enthusiastic and able to build strong working relationships.
