About the role
This role is part of Shelter’s in-house development team, reporting to the Lead Developer, and working closely with all product teams in the Central Digital team.
As Principal Front-end Developer, you’ll work in a product team and be responsible for the overall vision and development of the front-end technology stack with a strong focus on the technical design and implementation of Shelters design system.
You will also support the development of products to help Shelter to provide faster, more efficient, and effective services to clients and supporters.
Our tech stack consists of Contentful, Netlify, Gatsby Js, Storybook, CircleCI and Nx.
You’ll head up the front-end development team, mentoring senior developers, supporting them and their reports (a total of 6 in your team) in their day-to-day work.
Role Specifics
In this role, you will support the Lead Developer in managing the front-end team, promoting a culture of ownership, responsibility, and innovation. You will take the lead in designing and delivering Shelter’s design system, pattern library, and build tools, while continuously exploring emerging front-end technologies to enhance our digital products and user experience. Working closely with UX, product, and content teams, you will drive strategically important projects from development through to evidence-based improvements after launch. You will champion accessibility, web performance, and modern development standards across the organisation.
You will also play a key role in improving front-end team processes, ensuring high-quality, performant, and accessible code aligned with WCAG 2.1 AA standards. This includes mentoring the team through regular code reviews, setting development goals, and fostering collaboration within Agile teams. By sharing knowledge and staying current with the latest technologies, you will help maintain a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

About the team
The Central Digital team team plays a key role within Shelter by producing impactful user experiences for our advocacy and fundraising campaigns, as well as our advice services. The team includes designers, researchers, developers, testers, product managers and delivery managers, who work in cross-functional product teams, each focused on specific strategic goals. We put real user needs and behaviours at the heart of our process, championing an agile, iterative, and data-driven way of working across the organisation.
The digital team sits within the Campaigns, Policy, and Communications (CPC) directorate, working closely with other teams – particularly the content, marketing and creative teams. Collectively, they set the example for Shelter in digital best practice, discovery, and innovation.

Are you a proactive person with good listening skills interested in working for a leading charity in Bristol?
We are looking for people to join our Bristol teams as Night Concierges. You will be being joining 1 of our dedicated teams who provide person centered support to people experiencing homelessness in our mixed complex needs accommodation service, or our Women’s pathway.
Working as a Night Concierge, you will:
- Provide a first point of contact and safeguarding to clients at night.
- You may be required to work alone, being responsible for dealing with emergencies, undertaking regular health and safety checks on patrols and through monitoring the CCTV system.
- Report incidents or maintenance issues and communicate any concerns or events to the rest of the team.
Typical schedule: A rolling night shift rota, including weekends and bank holidays, usually around 9pm-7.30am with 3-4 days off.
About you
This is a great role to learn about working in the charity sector, many of our specialist workers and managers developed a career after starting in Night Concierge roles.
You don’t need extensive experience; but some experience of working or volunteering in a similar environment and an understanding of the issues that affect vulnerable adults with mental health support needs will be beneficial.
- If you think you could interact with clients in a positive and friendly manner throughout the night and be passionate about working in a service that supports vulnerable adults, we encourage you to apply!
- You should have good communication and basic IT skills with the ability to keep records and follow procedures.

Purpose of job
The Support and Integration Team is an integral part of ACH; the ideal candidate will be responsible for providing excellent standards of support, as well as quality information advice and guidance, to enable the resettlement and successful integration of refugees. Key Responsibilities
Support:
· Carrying out Pre Tenancy Assessments for new referrals.
· Carrying out person centred Support Plans tailored to the needs of each individual and reviewing these regularly in line with policy.
· Providing person-centred and culturally sensitive support to ACH tenants.
· Giving advice and support on a range of issues including housing, finance, education, employment, health and immigration, as required.
· Supporting people with budgeting / registering with care providers / creating social networks / advocacy/ volunteering / training / employment opportunities etc.
· Signposting to other relevant external agencies and referral partners as appropriate.
· Organising and attending group trips to local places of interest for our tenants
· Developing links with external organisations or agencies to promote the needs of refugees and create opportunities for partnership working.
· Effectively managing a designated caseload of residents, as well as keeping accurate records and maintaining case files to a high standard.
· Learning and making use of ACH CRM system to inform effective case management.
· Fully participating in team meeting, staff meetings, training sessions, supervision and any other relevant forum or communication processes.
· Accompanying our residents to appointments with statutory and/or voluntary services.
· Organising house meetings and visiting our tenants both at their properties and in the community.
· Completing online or paper forms for employment, welfare benefits etc.
· Carrying out Move On Plans and supporting residents to access independent accommodation.
· Any other tasks commensurate with the role.
