The organisation  

United for Global Mental Health was founded in January 2018. It exists to support and unite the global effort to promote good mental health. Through our campaigning, advocacy and financing work, we aim to create a world in which everyone, everywhere has someone to turn to in support of their mental health. Since 2018, we have worked with a variety of international and national partners to help us reach this goal.

The Initiative:    

The WHO Constitution and several UN human rights declarations affirm everyone’s right to the highest attainable standard of mental health. However, many countries’ laws and policies fall short of enabling this. Human rights violations and barriers to access persist, often due to the prioritisation of institutional care over primary and community-based services, and the existence of discriminatory laws, such as those criminalising suicide. Addressing these issues is a key focus of UnitedGMH’s human rights pillar under its current three-year strategy.

The Role: 

You have the opportunity to join this initiative, working as part of a global policy, advocacy and financing organisation that puts its national partners and persons with lived experience of mental health at the forefront of their advocacy efforts. You will work with the Policy and Advocacy Advisor and colleagues, to develop, coordinate, support and implement policy and advocacy projects including; influencing global, regional and national law and policy, conducting research, report writing, drafting policy briefs and positions, partnership building and management, supporting national partners with their advocacy and representing the organisation at online and in-person events, including at key global moments. You will be working to achieve the objectives of our strategic pillar on rights, delivering on the 2026 strategy and action plan for the project on decriminalising suicide worldwide and supporting the project to deinstitutionalise mental health care, as well as contributing to the work across the organisation. You will also have the opportunity to help shape our next three-year organisation strategy from 2027-2029. 

You:

You have a proven track record in international health policy and advocacy with an eye for detail and an entrepreneurial spirit. Confident to work across the range of advocacy and policy activities you are flexible, competent and take initiative, and have a desire to learn and grow.  You are a true team player; able to take both responsibility in managing important projects and relationships and unafraid to take on essential tasks to support the team.  You have a passion for international development, law and policy and mental health.

Responsibilities:

• Partner Support: Help to build and manage partner relations with external stakeholders including national and global civil society, research institutions, governments, UN agencies, donors etc. Support them with their national advocacy and assist them in developing and managing national coalitions to advance their work at a national level. 

• Stakeholder relations: Support, and sometimes lead, engagement with key governments, the UN and other international organisations. As appropriate, directly engage and manage relationships with key decision-makers and global and regional advocacy organisations.

• Engagement of Experts by Experience and young people: ensure experts by experience of mental health conditions and young people are provided opportunities to influence global and national policy through your projects 

• Grant and contract management: Lead in the identification of funders in your program area and develop funding proposals for work on policy, advocacy and financing; track and report on grant deliverables.

• Policy, advocacy & financing strategies: Lead the design and implementation of policy, advocacy and financing strategies for UnitedGMH and in collaboration with, or for, a range of stakeholders.

• Policy reports and papers: Draft policy reports and papers to support high level influencing.

• Briefings, policy packs and influencing language: Preparing briefings, policy packs and influencing language for senior government officials, Ministers, and other decision-makers as well as national partners as required.

• Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning: regularly update UnitedGMH’s MEL system with relevant data and information around your projects

• Communications: Support the internal and external communication activities of the organisation and develop project-based communications plans.

• Funder profiles: Maintain updated profiles on key mental health funders.

• Events: Organise meetings, events (including side-events at key global moments), workshops and small gatherings of partners and other stakeholders.

• Represent the organisation: Speak on behalf of the organisation on your project areas at key global moments and in-person and virtual events, webinars and conferences

Experience:

• You will have at least five years of experience working in country and/or global health policy, advocacy and/or financing for a UN agency, non-governmental organisation, think tank or decision-maker.

• You will have undertaken work related to public health and/or human rights and have a track record of advocacy with policy makers, brief/report writing and research.

• A background in health, including mental health, either professionally or through lived experience. 

• Demonstrable experience of having worked on health legislation and policy in low- and middle-income countries, including drafting, reviewing and/or having been part of consultative processes at a government level. Experience working on suicide prevention policies/strategies or the decriminalisation of suicide and/or the repeal of other discriminatory legislation will be preferred. 

• Low-to-middle income country level experience engaging with different stakeholders – persons with lived experience of mental health conditions, governments, civil society, donors etc.

• Experience of representing your organisation at key global, regional or national political gatherings

• A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. health, law, human rights)

Race Against Blood Cancer, a small but mighty charity with huge potential, is seeking a new General Manager to lead the organisation.

The cure for chemotherapy-resistant blood cancers - such as lymphoma, leukaemia and myeloma - relies on finding stem cell donors with a similar ethnic background; currently 4 in 5 patients with Global Majority heritage do not find a match.  Through donor recruitment & education, community engagement and by building strategic partnerships, RABC works to increase the volume and ethnic diversity of people who register as potentially life-saving donors; we believe every blood cancer patient deserves an equal chance of finding a potentially life-saving stem cell match.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The charity has an ambitious plan to build on its success and do even more to improve outcomes for blood cancer patients from Global Majority communities.  Working with a group of committed professionals and a small team, you’ll use your existing charity sector experience to implement our new growth strategy as well as having responsibility for the day-to-day running of the organisation.  This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is looking to move into their first charity leadership role or for a candidate who has a real passion to reduce health inequalities.

Job Purpose:

The postholder administers all day-to-day activities within People Services and is responsible for the accurate, timely administration of all people-related data throughout the employee lifecycle from recruitment to retirement. Committed to business process improvement, the post-holder operates within strict confidentiality and compliance boundaries. The People Services Officer role models organisational values and behaviours, providing technical advice to colleagues when required and supporting the People Services Manager across all areas of the team’s work.

Main responsibilities:

• People administration and record keeping
• Always ensure fully compliant employee records, updating as required.
• Process all monthly changes (starters, leavers, contractual changes) accurately and meeting payroll deadlines.
• Bring a focus to gathering diversity data, so that insight and appropriate action and support is possible.
• Maintain and explain annual leave, providing reports as necessary for line managers.
• Ensure that employee files are updated with all relevant correspondence and maintained in line with GDPR, with archiving and data erasure in line with BC’s policy.
• Support the CEO Office and People Services Manager with the annual pay review administration.

• Support Finance and Payroll with audit requests, meeting reporting deadlines.

Recruitment and selection, onboarding, and induction

• Manage the sourcing and advertising of new roles, once approved for recruitment.
• Support the procurement and management of external recruitment partners and internal assessment panels
• Liaise between candidates and hiring managers, setting up panels and ensuring selection process is effective and candidate friendly.
• Ensure that any reasonable adjustments requested during recruitment are implemented appropriately.
• Support hiring managers with induction and onboarding.
• Support BC induction programmes, providing information and presenting on People Services topics.
• Support on VISA and immigration and DBS checking as required.
• Run the Buddy Scheme for BC.

HR Information and Data Management and Reporting

• Maintain accurate employee data within the HRIS (Breathe), record and update.
• Provide regular standard reporting on key performance metrics for the organisation. (e.g. staff turnover, sickness absence, PDR completion rates, FTE, and headcount.)
• Provide people data for funding bids as required.
• Liaise with the HRIS provider for all system upgrades and maintenance, scheduling and testing new releases appropriately.
• Participate in HRIS provider network discussions to ensure that BC is maximising understanding of the system and services provided.

Learning and development

• Support all aspects of learning and development within the organisation, including diary management, registration, and monitoring.
• Review and improve content for People Services training materials.
• Maintain and report on records relating to compliance / mandatory training.
• Deliver introductory training in areas of expertise, for example recruitment, sickness absence management and contract changes.
• Act as first point of contact for external training partners and e-learning provider, directing and escalating queries as needed.

• Employee relations, engagement, and wellbeing.
  
• Update and format organisational policies under the guidance of the People Services Manager.
• Support with the implementation of the annual staff survey.
• Update and maintain the People Services SharePoint site, bringing accuracy and clarity to the content.
• Support on the administration of benefits schemes (e.g. cycle to work scheme).
• Support on people-related events, such as EDI celebrations and recognition awards (as relevant), ensuring inclusivity and efficient organisation.
• Know when to escalate confidential situations to protect individuals and BC.
• Source and support wellbeing activity that meets BC’s and individuals’ needs, including the Employee Assistance Programme.
• Commission Occupational Health reports as required.
• Provide first-line advice to managers on day-to-day people queries, such as sickness absence.

Project work

Undertake projects for People Services that enable continuous improvement of the services and function and self-development in the role.
Contribute to organisation-wide projects from time to time, bringing People expertise to the project team.

General:

About the role

We are seeking a transformational and visionary Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) to lead a national youth focused organisation, dedicated to promoting peer-led early intervention support for those in need. The successful candidate will be the first employed leader, propelling Youth4Youth from its robust foundations to the next stages of its development. The CEO will be responsible for turning our recently developed, yet ambitious, strategy into reality. This role provides an exceptional opportunity to make a significant and lasting impact from the outset.

Youth4Youth has secured funding to appoint a CEO for one year, with the expectation that the appointed leader will focus on securing long-term sustainable funding, thereby transitioning this position into a permanent role at the end of the fixed-term period. Additionally, the CEO will facilitate the appointment of further roles to support our mission as further funding becomes available.

• Collaborate with the Chair of the Board and Trustees to establish and execute organisational strategy in alignment with the charity’s vision, mission, and objectives. • Ensure that youth perspectives are central to decision-making processes about the charity's future. Establish systems to continuously gather input and feedback from our target beneficiaries.

This position offers the chance to advance an organisation with solid foundations, enhancing its reach and impact across the UK through a volunteer executive leadership team and a growing network of approximately 100 volunteers nationwide. The CEO will be instrumental in crafting a strategic vision that translates into operational success, building and strengthening partnerships across the four nations, developing sustainable funding streams, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services.

Strategic media leadership

• Develop, implement, and track a proactive, high-impact Media Strategy that supports the organisation’s objectives and aims to achieve the mission in our 2030 strategy.

• Manage the organisation's media function, including monitoring the media inbox, coordinating responses, and generating positive coverage across print, broadcast, and digital channels.

• Take lead responsibility for developing and implementing Crisis Communications plans and acting as the senior point of coordination during unexpected events.

• Provide regular performance monitoring and evaluation of media coverage and PR campaigns, using data to inform strategic adjustments.

Public Relations and stakeholder engagement

• Manage and develop the organisation’s PR activities, including leading the strategy for our Ambassador programme, and increasing positive engagement with Influencers and celebrities.

• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key journalists, editors, producers, and relevant external stakeholders across England, Scotland and Wales.
