AAFDA was founded by Frank Mullane in memory of his sister Julia Pemberton and her son Will who were both killed by her ex-partner in 2003.
Each year, around 150 families lose a loved one to domestic homicide. The actual number of suicides as a result of domestic abuse remains unknown. Most of these families suffer significant problems including relationship breakdown, job difficulties/loss and mental and physical health issues. We help these families in many ways, our prime function being to provide families in England, Wales and Northern Ireland with specialist peer support and expert and specialist advocacy for the range of statutory reviews that will take place after domestic homicide.
AAFDA (Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse) is a growing Charity and to meet the demands we are looking for a specialist Advocate for Scotland. Although home based, some travel will be required - frequency will be commensurate to the role. We welcome applications from candidates with experience of domestic abuse. We are also committed to diversity and strongly encourage applications from those with Black and/or Minoritised backgrounds.
Scotland is expected to introduce Domestic Homicide and Suicide Reviews commencing in April 2026. We are looking for a candidate with a good understanding of the Scottish legislative system and good understanding around domestic abuse to join our growing charity
Our Specialist Advocates support families impacted by fatal domestic abuse through provision of lay advocacy, for and on behalf of, families with a range of statutory service providers (e.g. those conducting reviews and inquiries, social services, police, housing) and work to build good relations between all parties. To ensure that families get the support they need, you will use AAFDA’s Home Office endorsed seven-step approach to working with individuals and families, to ensure that they receive the best possible support and advocacy to restore dignity and relief for families and to help them cope and recover. Through trauma-informed approaches, you will:
· Listen to families and advocate for them in a complex system that too often treats them as passive participants and overlooks the value of their insight.
· Provide information, support, guidance, advice and advocacy on Domestic Homicide & Suicide Reviews (DHSR’s) and other reviews where relevant and appropriate.
· Manage families’ expectations of the legal and procedural processes facing them by supporting families in meetings with agencies such as health, police and local authorities.
· Give families practical help on a wide range of issues - including help with letter writing or advocating with employers and local authorities on the families’ behalf.
· Support AAFDA in our bringing families together in AAFDA’s peer support events, such as the Hear Our Voice weekend and the on-line peer support Zoom sessions, where families can speak with others to share their experiences and stories. This will involve occasional evening work.
In return for joining us, we will offer you:
· 25 days annual leave per annum, plus bank holidays
· Excellent development and training opportunities
· Pension Scheme
· Healthcare Scheme
· Employee Assist Scheme

We have recently been awarded a transformative multi-year grant from The National Lottery Community Fund as part of its Health Inequities: Structural Racism and Discrimination Partnership. We are one of ten national partners working alongside The National Lottery Community Fund and will take a leading role in shaping how the partnership operates, including building evidence, influencing policy and practice, supporting the design of new national funding programmes, and facilitating collective learning across the partnership.
Alongside this, the centrepiece of our participation will be the delivery of three Anti-Racism Collaboratives (ARCs), each based in a specific locality and rooted in communities experiencing the sharpest health inequities. ARCs will bring together voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations (VCSE), faith organisations, people with lived experience, primary and secondary care providers, local authorities, public health and social care partners. Each ARC will convene a Co-Production Panel (CPP) of people from minoritised ethnic communities to identify where structural racism produces inequitable health outcomes, and to co-produce evidence-led solutions that improve health and tackle the wider determinants of health.
We are recruiting two Changemakers, one each for Greater Manchester and for Barking & Dagenham. As a Changemaker, you will establish and support an ARC within one of our pilot localities, bringing together stakeholders, providing strategic advice and knowledge of research methods and policy opportunities. Working as part of a national team of Changemakers, you will also contribute to the Foundation's evidence, influencing and systems change work, connecting learning from your locality to national policy, while bringing national developments back into local action. Together, the team will develop a replicable model for tackling racial health inequities.
We are looking for an experienced systems change practitioner who is passionate about tackling structural racism and improving health equity. This highly collaborative leadership role requires someone equally comfortable working alongside people with lived experience, senior leaders across health and local government, and colleagues from the voluntary and community sector. Success will depend on your ability to build trusted partnerships, work strategically in complex environments, translate evidence into action, and create the conditions for lasting systems change.
Person Specification

Significant experience of working alongside communities experiencing racial inequities to co-produce evidence-led solutions that influence policy, organisational practice or systems.
A commitment to trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches that recognise community knowledge as equal to professional expertise.
Experience of synthesising qualitative and quantitative evidence and translating it into practical recommendations that influence policy, commissioning, organisational practice or wider systems change.
Excellent communication and influencing skills, with experience of using evidence and partnership working to shape policy, commissioning or organisational practice.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
Ability to work strategically while maintaining oversight of programme delivery.

About Glitch
We work to ensure that internet technologies in the information ecosystem do not replicate or further discrimination to Black women and other marginalised people. We’re a Black-led, internationally-focused remote charity.
We are a charity, which means we do research, policy analysis and policy influencing, as well as campaigning on tech-facilitated gender-based violence, algorithmic discrimination, platform governance and other technology-related harms impacting race and gender injustice. Our advocacy work also covers what we describe as broader ‘societal and collective harms of technology’ by ensuring there are appropriate safeguards, governance and accountability in our core focus areas above. Our Programmes focus on education, literacy, accountability and resistance to algorithmic discrimination and injustice.
While we are not a frontline organisation, everything we do is on behalf of those excluded and ignored - specifically Black women and Black gender-expansive people.

ASPbelong is a project spanning universities, game developers, artists and young people, exploring how shared immersive experiences can strengthen real-world sense of belonging and mental health. We’re publicly funded by Horizon Europe and UKRI.
We’re looking for an exceptional collaborator to help grow awareness of Lina – our classroom experience in which young people aged 11-14 work together to solve the mystery of a missing classmate – and more broadly of our format Augmented Social Play (ASP). Played on tablets or smartphones without internet access, ASP combines immersive storytelling, collaborative gameplay and evidence-based psychology, making bold but safe use of ubiquitous tech to strengthen real-world connection.
Lina has been in soft launch via a multi-nation scientific study into its impact on young people and classroom climate. It’s been warmly received in dozens of schools, and now we’re gearing up for public launch. So this is about amplifying – getting our message to the right people, especially educators, journalists and thought-leaders. We’re non-profit and non-commercial; we’re motivated by innovation and belief in our work; our success metric is uptake, not income. But this is also about raising visibility in order to secure a future for this work.
This is not a routine social media role. You'll help shape an entire communications strategy, build new partnerships, approach mainstream and specialist press, influencers, and public figures, create or commission short-form content, plan and support event attendance, and more.
We’re looking for someone with initiative, courage and sound judgement, who is genuinely excited by the work we’re doing. Passion for education, social impact, cross-disciplinary creative work or innovative tech could all be relevant. An understanding of how ideas reach people in 2026 is essential.
You’ll work closely with Adam Barnard, the project’s non-academic lead, while interacting with members of a diverse consortium spanning Brighton, Birmingham, London, Dublin, Austria, Czechia, Portugal and beyond. Being based in Brighton (as Adam is) or SE England is a bonus but not essential – this role is primarily remote – however you must be either a British national, or legally able to work in the UK.
We’d start in September / early Autumn, initially on a 6 week trial, then extending to roughly a year’s initial engagement. Hours flexible – we’ve envisioned this as a part-time freelance role, perhaps 2-3 days per week on average, but this is negotiable. Pay dependent on experience but in line with comparable roles.
Before you apply, look closely at our website. Then email us with:
-A short introduction – who you are, and why this interests you (max 250 words)
-A relevant example of something you've made happen, or helped spread (max 250 words)
-You can attach, or link to, a CV and/or portfolio, but this is not essential.
Deadline: Monday 27 July, 12pm
