To be successful in this role you will need broad technical knowledge, with the ability to design end-to-end systems at a high level, with a clear understanding of a number of applications. We are using Salesforce and Informatica, so we’d love to hear from candidates with experience in these. You’ll also need to be a self-starter, who is passionate and motivated about delivering solutions and takes a proactive, strategic approach. It’s also important that you’re a people person, who is a great team player and excellent communicator, with the ability to engage colleagues from different parts of the organisation, and bring them on the transformation journey with you. Additionally, you’ll need a commitment to the aims and objectives of Dogs Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Repairs and Maintenance manager to join our estates department as we start the implementation of our 2023-2028 corporate strategy that seeks to double our current housing offer and improve the quality of our existing estate.

The Estates Repairs & Maintenance Manager will report directly to the Associate Director of Estates working alongside the Estate's Surveyor, Facilities Officer, Estates Administrator and external property consultancy partner who will provide technical support in terms of the production of tender and specifications, contract administration, property surveys, cost advice and feasibility studies.

How you will make a difference

The main purpose of the Estates Repairs & Maintenance Manager role is to manage and oversee effective property repairs, maintenance and improvement works across the property portfolio and ensure that it remains legally compliant. This includes properties where the responsibility for repairs and maintenance is that of the Charity and equally of other parties such as landlords and housing associations. The role will include managing existing external contractor relationships and housing association repairs and maintenance performance, as well as introducing new supplier contracts where required according to the wider needs of the charity. The role will also include managing major/complex projects on behalf of the charity and supporting other areas of the department ensuring properties remain compliant.

*Appointments will be at the minimum of the band.

The role will work across both businesses following their partnership agreement in January 2023. The Finance Director role would ideally start swiftly and will take on a largely strategic direction whilst still requiring operational input.

Based in Olton, candidates with experience in a senior leadership role in finance whilst holding an understanding of how charities, housing providers or public sector organisations work will be highly advantageous.

The Finance Director post will cover many facets including, but not limited to:

Executive Leadership

• Working with the executive team to develop and manage the delivery of robust corporate, strategic and financial business plans

• Managing relationships with investment managers, ensuring regular review of performance and satisfaction
• Developing and maintaining effective systems of financial control that ensure that business plans are continually reviewed and reported on
• Maintaining overall responsibility for the computerised accounting system, including sales ledger, purchase ledger, cash book and nominal ledger

Treasury

• Being responsible for each Trust’s Treasury Management strategy and policy to ensure the availability of and flexibility of funding to support the achievement of strategic objectives and reduce exposure

Risk Management

• Leading on the development of risk management strategies and registers, audit frameworks, procedures and appraisal systems for capital projects and all other significant areas of risk.   

Growth and Innovation

• To support the Chief Executive in the development of the Strategic Business Plans in a way that supports innovation and growth in services

ICT / HR

• Leading on the development and delivery of an effective ICT and Telecoms Strategy which supports mobile and agile working and customer relationship management that underpins our drive for excellent business

• Proven experience at a senior leadership level in a finance environment

Role Summary

As the Director of Research and Public Affairs you lead a team working across the full range of research work (including commissioning, grant-making and in-house research) and public affairs work (including policy analysis, advocacy work and mobilising our activists). You also contribute to the charity’s strategies, leadership and governance as a member of the Executive Team. Ultimately, your role is to generate new knowledge; and communicate knowledge, ideas and emotions to change hearts and minds, creating tangible reductions in alcohol harm across the UK.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Leadership, strategy & planning

1. Lead the research and public affairs functions at Alcohol Change UK.

2. Produce and deliver plans across our research and public affairs work programmes that are ambitious for change (impact), realistic given our resources, and consistent with our strategy, our other work programmes, and our values.

3. Set budgets, tightly control costs and identify opportunities for making savings, growing income and making the case for investment.

4. Appropriately monitor and evaluate our research and public affairs work with a view to knowing, growing and showing the impact we make.

Research

5. Work closely with the CEO, Policy and Research Manager, R&P sub-committee and Wales Office to determine and oversee the charity’s programme of commissioned research, research grants, and in-house research.

6. Ensure that all research is designed with impact-in-mind and, once complete, that it delivers on that impact through active and ongoing communication of the findings to the right audiences with the right messages through the right channels.

7. Lead the research function to be the central hub for the charity on the topic of alcohol harm and its solutions, staying on top of new research.

8. Influence the research spending of other agencies (e.g. NIHR) with a view to maximising funding into alcohol research in general.

Public Affairs

9. Lead and manage the charity’s public affairs activity, deploying the CEO, Research & Policy Officer and other staff as a team.

10.  Lead our work with external alliances, such as the Alcohol Health Alliance and the Alcohol and Families Alliance, and on the APPG on Alcohol Harm.

11.  Develop excellent relationships with Parliamentarians, civil servants, charities and other important institutional actors in our field.

12.  Build Campaigner journeys for our engagement audience to best mobilise them to help us with our influencing work.

13.  Lead on the commissioning and management of any external public affairs agencies, parliamentary monitoring services and similar suppliers.

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) is a leading UK charity dedicated to improving the health and dignity of Palestinians affected by conflict, occupation, and displacement. With a focus on the occupied Palestinian territory and Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, we provide vital health and medical care to those in need, particularly in crisis zones like Gaza. As part of our commitment to meeting the growing needs of the communities we serve, we're expanding our team. 

The ideal candidate will have responsibilities that include monitoring compliance with MAP’s financial and procurement policies, developing strong cash and treasury management policies, and managing financial accounting systems. You will also ensure timely and accurate preparation of annual statutory accounts, compliance with relevant accounting and legal requirements, and submission of necessary returns to regulatory bodies. 

Duties and key responsibilities 

Leadership, Collaboration & Line Management 

• Support the Director of Operations through preparation for and reporting to governance meetings. 

• Participate actively as a member of the Leadership Team. 

• Provide leadership, direction, training, and motivation as appropriate to the UK Finance Manager, and the overseas Finance Managers in conjunction with overseas Directors. 

Finance Policy & Process Management 

• Be responsible for monitoring compliance with MAP’s financial and procurement policies and review and update these policies on a regular basis. 

• Develop and implement strong cash and treasury management policies and procedures. 

• Manage and develop all financial accounting systems in consultation with the Head of Reporting to ensure they are fit for purpose. 

• Help to ensure value for money and the effective use of funds across the organisation. 

Compliance & Regulatory Reporting 

• Manage the ongoing relationships with the external auditors. 

• Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of the annual statutory accounts for the annual audit and implement recommendations from the auditors and/or Board. 

• Monitor institutional income and related contracts and ensure that all restricted income, including Zakat, is properly accounted for. 

• Ensure the financial management of MAP is compliant with relevant accounting, legal, HMRC and tax requirements, including VAT and corporation tax, and that the correct returns are made. 

• Submit the necessary returns and maintain our records with the Charity Commission and Companies House on a timely basis.

Cashflow & Bank Account Management 

• Manage the ongoing relationships with MAP’s banks in the UK. 

• Maintain UK bank accounts and ensure financial governance is in place for overseas bank accounts.

• Ensure bank mandates and online banking operations are reviewed and updated on time. 

• Monitor and manage the organisation's cash flow to ensure there are sufficient currency funds to meet operational needs. 

• Review fund and payment  requests from overseas offices and that planned activities are within budget. 

• Release all payments from UK bank accounts, including UK payroll. 

Financial Controls 

• Implement appropriate internal controls, policies, and procedures to protect against fraud and misappropriation. 

• Oversee and manage all payroll budgets and forecasts. 

• Oversee the payroll functions, ensuring adequate internal controls and approvals are in place and adhered to, and all statutory requirements are met. 

• Ensure regular reconciliations are made between the accounting system and the CRM. 

• Oversee legacy administration liaising with the Legacy Advisor. 

Risk Management 

• Risk management – manage strategic and operational financial risks working with the Head of Internal Audit & Compliance.

• Maintain insurance policies across all MAP offices to ensure appropriate and adequate risk mitigation and meet statutory requirements. 

Person Specification 

Experience 

• Extensive experience in a finance leadership role within a complex charitable organisation, working internationally. 

• Experience of UK charity finance practice and governance - UK Charities SORP FRS 102. 

• Excellent technical knowledge and skills in accountancy principles, governance, and standards, including preparation of statutory accounts. 

• Successful track record of managing financial systems, and cashflow. 

• Experience of working in a multi-currency organisation. 

• Ability to contribute to the management of in-country finance colleagues, while not taking direct line-management responsibility for them. 

Skills and abilities 

• Leadership skills to undertake a complex management role in an international organisation. 

• Excellent staff management, communication, and inter-personal skills. 

• Clear written /verbal communication skills, with the ability to present.

About the Gatehouse:

It is a volunteer and donation-led registered charity supported by the whole Oxfordshire community, including churches and congregations of other faiths in Oxford. The Gatehouse community drop-in centre offers free support services for adults aged 25+ who are homeless, vulnerably housed, on low income, and/or looking for company and community. The Gatehouse offers a free café (six evenings a week), therapeutic workshops, and a bespoke one-to-one support service (over two evenings and one afternoon a week). The project also delivers an outreach service, an independent counselling service, and supports the Lived Experience Advisory Forum (LEAF). The Gatehouse is experiencing rapid growth and is eager to expand its leadership team to support its exciting plans.

As the CEO, you will spearhead The Gatehouse's mission and vision alongside the Board, ensuring stakeholders receive the best services.

How you will make a difference

As Business Development and Engagement Manager within the Workplace Mental Health & Training team, you will play a pivotal role in driving growth, partnerships, and engagement from corporate and community settings for both Mental Health UK and Rethink Mental Illness. The St Pancras Community Association (SPCA) is a charity delivering high quality services for Camden residents, especially the lively and diverse community of the St Pancras and Somers Town ward.
