Job description

LGBTQ+ Youth Work Support Worker

Reports to: LGBTQ+ Youth Work Lead

Hours: 0.7 FTE (approximately 26 hours per week)

Salary: £29,644 (pro rata - £20,750.80)

Contract: Confirmed thru end Mar 2027 with possibility of extension until Mar 2028

Location: Multiple sites across 4 counties in north Wales

Evening work: Willingness to work up to 3 evenings per week required

Travel: Own transport essential

Purpose of Role

The LGBTQ+ Youth Work Support Worker will co-produce and deliver programmes and activities with and for LGBTQ+ young people across multiple sites. Working under the supervision of the Viva LGBTQ+ Lead, this role focuses on creating safe, inclusive spaces where LGBTQ+ young people can connect, develop skills, and access support.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Youth Work Delivery:

  • Co-produce and deliver LGBTQ+ youth groups across a number of sites
  • Deliver programmes and activities as part of the Tŷ Pride Partnership (working to prevent LGBTQ+ homelessness)
  • Provide one-to-one support and key working for LGBTQ+ young people
  • Support advocacy for LGBTQ+ young people
  • Facilitate participation and co-production with young people

Quality and Communications:

  • Contribute to quality assurance and evaluation
  • Support impact measurement and reporting
  • Contribute to communications, media, and marketing activities (including social media)

Professional Practice:

  • Participate fully in reflective peer supervision
  • Maintain safeguarding duties commensurate with role
  •  Attend and complete training and CPD as directed
  • Follow instructions for budgeting and financial record keeping


Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

  • Level 2 Youth Work qualification or above (or working towards Level 2)

Essential Experience:

  • Experience of youth work or community work with young people
  • Experience and understanding of issues impacting upon LGBTQ+ young people and communities

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to build positive relationships with young people
  • Good group work and activity planning skills
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles
  • Good communication skills
  • Basic IT skills including social media
  • Access to own transport and ability to travel between delivery sites
  • Flexibility to work evenings (up to 3 per week), occasional overnight and weekend shifts (e.g. during residential trips)

  • Warm, approachable, and non-judgmental
  • Reliable and professional
  • Team player who can also work independently
  • Commitment to youth work values and reflective practic
  •  Willingness to learn and develop

  • Knowledgeable through lived experience
  • Welsh language skills (or commitment to undertake)
  • Experience working across multiple sites
  • Experience using creative and/or physical activities within youth work (e.g. arts, crafts, media, dance, sports etc.)
