Job description

Commissioned by the London Borough of Bromley, South East London ICB and managed by Bromley Third Sector Enterprise (BTSE), the Bromley Well service helps people living in Bromley borough to improve and maintain their health and wellbeing.

We are seeking a Mental Health Carers Advisor to enhance the quality of life, wellbeing and resilience of people who care for someone experiencing mental health problems in Bromley. The role forms part of a small Mental Health Carers team employed by SEL Mind, delivering support as part of Bromley Well alongside our partners; Age UK Bromley & Greenwich, Citizens Advice Bromley and Bromley Mencap.

You will provide information, advice and guidance to help carers cope in their role through practical training, workshops and peer support spaces. The role takes lead responsibility for coordinating and facilitating the six-week ‘Coping with Caring’ psychoeducational programme, as well as regular peer support groups and information workshops in collaboration with Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust. The role will include some one-to-one client support including triage and helping carers access relevant local services.

You will be non-judgmental, caring and resilient, with a good understanding of the issues faced by unpaid carers. You will have experience of supporting people with mental health needs and assessing risk. You will be adept in facilitating safe, welcoming and inclusive groups, and will be able to respond appropriately to carers’ emotional and practical needs, whilst maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

The team’s office is in Orpington. Office days must include Tuesdays, with flexibility to attend other offices and locations as required. The role will involve some evening working to enable the service to accommodate the needs of carers who work full time.

This role is ideally suited to someone with lived experience of caring and an understanding of navigating mental health services.

Successful applicants will be expected to undergo an Enhanced Level Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Closing date: Wednesday 28th October (11:59pm)

Likely interview date: Thursday 12th November

We encourage early applications as we reserve the right to close the vacancy early if we receive a high number of applications.
