Who we are
We are OUTpatients, the UK’s LGBTIQ+ cancer charity. Proudly led by and for our community, we are here to shake up the system, advocate for equity, and stand up for every LGBTIQ+ person affected by cancer. Our passion to support others is born out of personal experience; we understand what it’s like to not see yourself reflected in the services you use, and feel like you are left in the margins at a time when you most need personalised support. That is why we host peer support, educate healthcare professionals and help to shape national policy so that nobody has to go through cancer alone.
The position
The Chief Medical Officer is one of three new senior leadership roles we're creating alongside our CEO, the first time OUTpatients has built a leadership team of this kind. Although the role is part-time, just one day a week, its influence is not: you'll be the clinical conscience of everything we produce, and a trusted voice for LGBTIQ+ people affected by cancer within the NHS and medical sector.
Working at the intersection of oncology and LGBTIQ+ health equity, you'll ensure our resources, training and peer support are always backed by rigorous clinical evidence and safe, reliable quality standards, giving our small team the confidence to support people safely. Beyond quality assurance, you'll act as a trusted spokesperson and policy voice, opening doors within the NHS and cancer sector that a patient-led charity alone cannot.
Working closely with our incoming Chief Operating Officer and Head of Fundraising & Business Development, and reporting directly to our CEO, your clinical judgement will directly shape how safely and credibly we're able to grow.
To learn more about the role, please read the attached Job Description.
We exist to improve the experiences and outcomes of LGBTIQ+ people living with and beyond cancer.

Founded in 2005 by author J.K. Rowling, Lumos partners with governments, civil society and young people with lived experience to transform care systems globally and advocate for family-based solutions that help children thrive. We ensure that families receive the support they need to stay together or reunite, and that children grow up in family-based settings such as foster or kinship care, not institutions.
Despite clear evidence of the harms of institutionalisation, more than five million children worldwide continue to live in institutions. And a much larger number of children are at risk of family breakdown and separation – those living in poverty, experiencing domestic violence and abuse, and living in countries affected by conflict.
We are ambitious for children’s safety. In the next ten years, Lumos will enable 500K children in care to return to family-based care, while preventing ten million more children from experiencing family breakdown and separation – so that they can thrive in their own families. Working with local, national, and global partners, Lumos supports government-led transformation of childcare systems across Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America- driving systemic and sustainable change.
Lumos’ ambition for children is significant and will require the organisation and its partners to work in new ways – with a pace, drive and urgency that this moment demands – and that children everywhere deserve.
Lumos’ success will continue to be based not just on what we do, but on how we do it – our values. We embrace collaboration. We strive for excellence. We show respect. We always care. And we are passionate. We are Lumos.

Make evidence central to how we work
- Hold senior accountability for programme quality, monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning across the global portfolio.
- Continue to strengthen Lumos’ ability to demonstrate system-level change, using credible evidence and data to understand what works and how successful approaches can be adapted or scaled.
- Ensure evidence and learning from delivery, inform programme strategy, advocacy, partnerships, fundraising and future investment.
Lead across the organisation and beyond
- Work closely with Finance, People & Operations, Safeguarding, Safety & Security and other specialist functions to ensure programmes are effectively supported, responsibly managed and delivered safely.
- Champion meaningful participation and leadership of children, young people and people with lived experience across programme design, delivery and learning.

Who we are
We are OUTpatients, the UK’s LGBTIQ+ cancer charity.
The Head of Fundraising & Business Development is one of three new senior leadership roles we're creating alongside our CEO, the first time OUTpatients has built a leadership team of this kind. It's a rare chance to build an income generation function from scratch, not inherit and manage one that already exists.
You'll be the driving force behind how we fund our growth: designing and delivering a multi-channel income strategy spanning trusts and grants, corporate partnerships, individual giving and commercialised education products, and personally securing the gifts and partnerships that sustain our peer support, healthcare education and advocacy work. This is a hands-on, deeply personal role. You'll write the bids, pitch the sponsors and build the relationships yourself, not oversee others doing it.
Working closely with our incoming Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer, and reporting directly to our CEO, your work will directly shape how many more LGBTIQ+ people affected by cancer we're able to reach.
To learn more about the role, please read the attached Job Description.
We exist to improve the experiences and outcomes of LGBTIQ+ people living with and beyond cancer.

About the British Society for Heart Failure
The British Society for Heart Failure (BSH) is the UK's leading charity and membership organisation dedicated to improving care for people living with heart failure. We bring together healthcare professionals, researchers and decision-makers to improve prevention, diagnosis, treatment and long-term outcomes through education, awareness, research and policy influence.
This is an exciting time to join BSH as we deliver our ambitious new strategy and continue to drive forward our national 25in25 campaign to reduce mortality from heart failure and improve outcomes for patients across the UK.
About the Role
This is a high-profile opportunity to shape and deliver BSH's policy agenda and strengthen its influence across the healthcare sector.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will work with clinical leaders, parliamentarians, NHS stakeholders and partner organisations to ensure BSH remains a credible and influential voice on heart failure policy. You will help develop evidence-based policy positions, influence decision-makers and support improvements in heart failure prevention, diagnosis and care across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery and development of BSH's policy framework and priorities.
- Develop policy papers, briefings, consultation responses and stakeholder communications.
- Build relationships with parliamentarians, NHS leaders, policymakers and healthcare organisations.
- Represent BSH at meetings, consultations, forums and policy discussions.
- Identify opportunities to influence policy and improve outcomes for people living with heart failure.
- Work collaboratively with partner organisations on advocacy, campaigns and policy development.
- Monitor the healthcare and policy landscape, identifying emerging issues and opportunities.
- Support wider organisational activity including communications, events and strategic initiatives.
Our Commitment to Inclusion
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences. If you're excited by this opportunity but don't meet every requirement, we'd still encourage you to apply. As this role is primarily remote we also encourage applicants from any location in the UK that enables occassional travel into London and elsewhere in the UK.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
