About the Spokesperson Network
The Spokesperson Network trains and supports people to speak on television and radio. We are substantially boosting the number of progressive, diverse voices in this space to challenge opposition narratives and boost coverage of underrepresented issues.
The programme works by training, coaching and providing PR booking support for spokespeople from civil society working on social, environmental and economic issues. So far we’ve had over 11,000 high-profile media bookings including Question Time, Newsnight, Good Morning Britain, LBC, Channel 4 News, BBC 5 Live, Today, Sky News and ITV News plus many more.
Purpose of the role
The Press Officer is central to our flagship Spokesperson Network programmes, placing people in broadcast media on a regular basis, developing and maintaining media contacts and meeting the needs of participants on the Spokesperson Network.
Your main day-to-day role will be identifying opportunities for members of our Spokesperson Network, and then coordinating between them and producers to secure TV and radio opportunities for them. You will build relationships with journalists - and increasingly seek our print and digital opportunities too.
Most days will involve spotting opportunities in the news early in the day that would be relevant for the spokespeople we have on our books, checking in with the various spokes to see who is available, formatting pitches to put out on our media list and then fixing up the details when media bids come in to ensure that bookings happens smoothly and effectively.
Requests for the members of the Spokesperson Network happen regularly outside of office hours and during the weekend. Part of this role will involve sharing responsibility to be available to respond to these bookings and fix them up when they happen. You will be recompensed for this with TOIL.
This project is part of a wider Communications Hub in which you’ll play an active role helping to develop the overall strategy and direction of the project.
What you will be doing
Here are the key responsibilities of this role:
Identify relevant stories in the news and subsequently pitch and book spokespeople into broadcast media (television and radio) and respond to media requests.
Train spokespeople to speak in the media and provide media skills training for campaigners and other organisations.
Build new media relationships to widen the range of producers working with the Spokesperson Network
Support spokespeople, taking into consideration the ways in which broadcast media work interacts with people's identities and lived experience.
Work with others in the Comms Team on the development and implementation of effective messaging.
Identifying clippable content, creating clips.
Play an active role in the wider Comms Hub, attending and feeding into key messaging and narrative development.
Play an active part in the whole NEON team, contributing to organisation-wide plans
Who you are:
Experience in journalism, communications or media relations
Experience of building and maintaining relationships with journalists
Proven understanding of anti-oppression work and commitment to tackling all institutional forms of oppression, bigotry and exclusion
Experience working in the economic and social justice campaigning community in any kind of capacity
Excellent writing and editing skills, including an eye for detail
Excellent interpersonal skills and communicating appropriately with different stakeholders
The ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
Ability to work well under pressure, at a fast pace, meet the demands of a dynamic organisation and accommodate changing circumstances
Ability to work well in a team and also independently.
An affinity with NEON’s aims and objectives and organisational values of solidarity, generosity and respect
Preferred/Optional
Experience of working with an organisation with a substantial media profile
Experience of coordinating media responses in hostile situations
Experience in working in or with the range of groups that are in the NEON network
Values and behaviours
Personal commitment to NEON’s purpose of building the strength of movements for social, economic and environmental justice
Commitment to eradicating oppression and building connections with marginalised groups
Ability to reflect and learn, including sharing failures and uncertainties. Openly taking feedback from the team and members of the community on your behaviours and work
Commitment to learning how to align your actions with the values of NEON: solidarity, generosity and respect
Growing levels of self-awareness, including an understanding of how your background has shaped the opportunities afforded to you and how you relate to people from different backgrounds
Willingness to develop emotional intelligence, including a growing ability to empathise with and appreciate others, creating opportunities for those you work with to grow and develop
Ability to work across all levels and demonstrate a team-player and ‘can do’ attitude.
About NEON:
NEON is a capacity and infrastructure building organisation that seeks to accelerate the transition to a new economy by building the power of social movements - because without strong social movements we lack the power we need to win. We deliver trainings, develop resources, facilitate collaboration and work in partnership with key movement allies, especially in the climate, housing and migration movements. Our focus is on strengthening the organising, communications and strategy skills of social movement organisations, as well as deepening movement alignment, as we believe these are key to building collective power. As part of our work, we are looking to change the starting point in social movements from “what do we agree on” to “what can we win together?”
We also aim to mirror the change we want to see in social movements in the way we run the organisation internally. To that end, we are committed to building a workplace centred on joy, care and justice, whilst maintaining healthy boundaries of what a workplace is. We do this because it is important to live our values and principles, and because strategically an organisation with a healthy culture and strong foundations ensures we are always one step ahead in the fight for a just and sustainable future.
To build a culture and community that lasts, we organise around three values:
● Solidarity - we’re here to change the system and that requires working together across issues and sectors that aren’t normally in the same room. This means placing anti-oppression at the heart of our work and building the power of people most often affected by injustice to change the leadership of our movements
● Generosity is about sharing our time, resources and learning with one another as we support each other’s work. It means being open and honest with one another, especially when we hit problems, and thinking creatively about how we positively build from there
● Respect is the bottom line for all relationships in NEON. It means being respectful of different backgrounds and life experiences and giving space for all voices to be heard. This often means listening more than we talk and being open to changing ourselves as a result of what we hear.
You can also check out our website for more info on NEON.
How to apply
We don’t want to make this process too complicated so please complete and return the application form attached to the job listing on our website.
We'd also be really grateful if you could complete our Equal Opportunities Monitoring form equally linked on the website. This is optional, anonymous, and separate from your application, so it won't be seen by the shortlisting panel or affect your application in any way.
We know that people from certain backgrounds and identities are often excluded in progressive movements and we’re committed to doing what we can to correct this.
So:
We particularly welcome applications from marginalised groups, especially people of colour and other ethnic minorities, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Disabled people and those who identify as working class or have done so in the past.
We know the work goes way beyond "diversity", it's about making the space inclusive too. So we are continuously working on that at NEON. So far this includes tangible things like a flexible work policy so people have genuine flexibility around where and when they work and a 28 hour week as standard; a gender-neutral parenting/leave policy, an anti-oppression strategy which is held at senior level given how important it is to the organisation. It also includes the day-to-day work of creating psychological safety for everyone at NEON and celebrating the wisdom of black, indigenous, queer, Disabled and other cultures in the way we work and behave
There are no formal education requirements for this role. As long as you can show us you have the skills we don’t mind where you got them from! Also important to us is your potential to learn and grow in the role so even if you don’t have 100% of the skills listed we want to hear from you. If you fancy a chat about the role or have any questions about NEON in general, you can reach out to Matthew Butcher or Molly Fleming via email (on our website). You can request a call back via this email if you prefer.

Julie’s Bicycle is seeking a visionary, collaborative and values-led Chief Executive to lead the organisation into its next chapter.
About Julie’s Bicycle
Julie’s Bicycle is a pioneering not-for-profit organisation mobilising the arts and culture sectors to take action on the climate crisis. For nearly two decades, we have been at the forefront of the creative climate movement, working to put culture and creativity at the heart of climate action. We believe culture has the power to challenge, inspire and move people; to shape how we think, feel and act; and to help transform our future now.
Our work brings together cultural and environmental expertise to support practical action, build leadership, inform policy and strengthen collective impact. Through our programmes, tools, training, consultancy, campaigns and partnerships, we support artists, creative organisations, policymakers and changemakers to respond to the climate, nature and justice crises with confidence, imagination and purpose. To date, Julie’s Bicycle has worked with thousands of organisations and individuals, in the UK and globally, helping to equip people, places and policies with the knowledge and power to drive sustainable change.
Why this opportunity has arisen
This is a defining moment for Julie’s Bicycle. After 19 years of inspirational founding leadership, our Founder and Chief Executive, Alison Tickell, is stepping down from the role. As we approach our 20th anniversary, Julie’s Bicycle is renewing its strategy and theory of change. The climate, nature and justice crises continue to evolve, and so too must the leadership, partnerships and solutions needed to create meaningful change. This creates a significant opportunity for a new Chief Executive to honour a powerful legacy while shaping a bold, clear and ambitious next chapter for the organisation.
What we are looking for
We are looking for an exceptional Chief Executive who can provide strategic and organisational leadership, strengthen Julie’s Bicycle’s voice and influence, and ensure the organisation continues to deliver impact at the intersection of culture and climate. The successful candidate will work closely with an experienced Board and dedicated staff team to refine and deliver our next phase of strategy, sharpen our priorities, build sustainable income and communicate our distinctive value with clarity and conviction.
This is both an outward-facing and deeply organisational role. Externally, our next Chief Executive will be a visible and credible advocate across culture, climate and environmental networks, able to build partnerships, engage funders and policymakers, convene people around shared purpose, and speak persuasively about the role of arts and culture in responding to the climate crisis. Internally, they will inspire, empower and support a talented and values-led team, strengthening leadership capability, systems, decision-making and accountability while protecting the inclusive, creative and collaborative culture that makes Julie’s Bicycle special.
We are keen to hear from experienced senior leaders with a track record of organisational and people leadership, strategic development, partnership building and income generation. We expect our CEO to demonstrate a strong understanding of the relationship between culture, climate and wider social and environmental change, and to bring a deep knowledge and experience of the UK cultural landscape and key institutions and stakeholders, and/or a deep knowledge and experience of national and international climate policy and advocacy environments. However, we are also keen to hear from you if you are passionate about the intersection of culture and climate/environmental issues, but would benefit from a period of phased support to fully immerse yourself in the breadth of issues, sectors and contexts in which JB operates.
This is an opportunity to lead a pioneering organisation with purpose and ambition: protecting what makes Julie’s Bicycle distinctive, strengthening the foundations that will help it thrive, and turning the power of culture into meaningful and lasting climate action.

Salary range: £50,000-60,000
Contract: Full-time, permanent

The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is a global non-profit organisation working to protect the natural world and our fundamental human right to a secure environment. We work at the frontlines of environmental injustice, alongside communities most affected by climate breakdown, biodiversity loss, and exploitation - transforming evidence into action, and injustice into lasting change.
Through field investigations, rigorous research, and strategic international advocacy, we expose environmental crime, challenge impunity, and catalyse systemic reform. Our work delivers real-world impact, shaping policy, strengthening governance, protecting vital ecosystems, and defending those who risk their lives to safeguard them.
Our campaigns span four interconnected areas: oceans, climate, forests and wetlands, and the training, protection, and empowerment of environmental defenders and investigative journalists. From illegal fishing and plastic pollution to deforestation, land grabs, and climate breakdown, we confront some of the most complex and urgent crises of our time - always with a focus on accountability, equity, and durable solutions.
EJF has a diverse team of campaigners, filmmakers and community mobilisers working across four continents, united by a shared ambition: to protect people by protecting the planet. We are bold, evidence-led, and impact-driven. We speak truth to power - and we build pathways to a fairer, more resilient future. Join Us.
The role
EJF is seeking a proactive, versatile and experienced coordinator to strengthen and expand our Environmental Defenders programme training, equipping and supporting frontline campaigners, and investigative journalists in the Global South. This senior role is a rare opportunity to support inspirational grassroots leaders dedicated to protecting the natural world and the human rights dependent upon it. Your contribution will be integral to our mission to Protect People and Planet.
The Coordinator will be responsible for supporting established partnerships as well as identifying outstanding people and organisations to benefit from the programme. You will oversee the production and dissemination of an extensive portfolio of training tools and guides, lead remote and field-based training potentially including research and investigations, cameras, drones and filmmaking, campaigns and communications. You will have the skills and experience to quickly identify and respond to needs, including those that will deliver long-term campaign outcomes and organisational resilience.
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will manage a four-person team and work closely with EJF’s extended teams in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America; the role requires regular and, occasionally, extended travel.
With superb organisational and communication skills, you are efficient in remote project management, able to quickly assess, synthesise, and apply information, agree on strategic priorities, and develop bespoke approaches that optimise outcomes and mitigate risks.
You are adept at tracking deliverables, bringing teams and project partners together to achieve meaningful conservation impact and share progress through inspirational communications outputs, including film, reports and grant reporting.
Key responsibilities
Capacity strengthening -design capacity-strengthening programmes, review content developed by other team members, and deliver training to environmental defenders (on investigation, film, advocacy, storytelling, governance and security). Ensure high-quality, holistic support is provided to EJF partners through regular catchups, sharing funding opportunities, and providing strategic guidance on organisational development.
Resource hub management – support the launch of the Environmental Reporting Resource Hub, ensuring environmental defenders from the Global South have access to these resources. Update content, create new materials, and coordinate translations and dissemination as necessary to optimise use and impact.
Global coordination and support – coordinate with colleagues (regional leads, video producers, investigators, trainers, and campaigners) across target countries to provide support to environmental defenders. Facilitate knowledge sharing between teams to strengthen existing capacity and provide insights where necessary.
Subgrants management - monitor subgrants provided to environmental defenders, review activity progress and financial reports, and identify potential new subgrantees.
Financial monitoring - monitor the budgets and spending of different projects, develop budgets for new activities, training, and travel, review post-trip expenses, and ensure superb value for money.
Monitoring and evaluation - evaluate the progress of different activities, identify lessons learned and successes, and report findings to the CEO and funders.
Partnerships and advocacy - work with colleagues nationally and internationally to identify opportunities to amplify grassroots messages through communications and advocacy. Expand EJF’s network with organisations supporting environmental defenders, represent EJF at conferences, and engage strategically with global advocacy efforts.
Communications – draft compelling communications for EJF outreach, including development of news and features-led communications (UK and international) to support the programme, the issues and the campaign impacts.
Programme expansion and communications - increase the visibility of the Environmental Defenders Programme strategically, identify new funding opportunities, support the development and submission of funding applications, and identify new avenues to expand EJF’s work.
Line management – manager a four-person team, supporting their professional development and providing strategic guidance on the programmes they lead.
