About Degrees 

The Degrees Initiative is a UK-based NGO that builds the capacity of the Global South to evaluate solar radiation modification (SRM) geoengineering, a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. Degrees is neutral on whether SRM should ever be used, but we believe that the Global South should be empowered to conduct their own research and to play a central role in SRM discussions. The initiative has been working in different forms for over a decade, and our work receives worldwide coverage and widespread acclaim. 

Role

The Events Officer will coordinate and support the planning and delivery of Degrees’ international events, including workshops bringing together Degrees-funded researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders, and the biennial Degrees Global Forum. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, the Events Officer will help ensure high-quality events that strengthen collaboration, showcase research outcomes, facilitate engagement with policymakers and advance Degrees’ mission to build capacity in the Global South to engage equitably in SRM deliberations.

The Events Officer will also provide general administrative support to the Policy Engagement team.

This role is ideal for a highly organised individual who enjoys coordinating complex logistics, managing multiple priorities, improving processes and ensuring that events run smoothly.

Key responsibilities

The Events Officer works under the supervision of the Events & Projects Manager, while supporting the Policy Engagement team in cooperation with the Policy Engagement Director. Responsibilities will include:

Events

• Arrange travel, lodging and other travel logistics for, funded scientists, policymakers, and other external participants;
• Maintain event budgets and expenditure records, working with the Events & Projects Manager and Operations and Finance team to monitor expenditure against budget;
• Arrange meeting facilities;
• Facilitate requests for visas and other travel authorisations;
• Serve as a point of contact for external event participants’ queries about travel and events;
• Assist Degrees staff with travel questions;
• Ensure proper distribution of participant documents in a timely manner;
• Maintain accurate event plans, timelines, trackers, action logs and participant records, and proactively follow up outstanding actions;
• Coordinate communications and follow-up actions between the Events & Projects Manager and other Degrees teams;
• Support supplier management and contracting processes as directed by the Events & Projects Manager;
• Support the development and maintenance of appropriate event risk assessments;
• Support post-event close-out, including participant feedback, reconciliation of records and expenditure, documentation and lessons learned.

Degrees Global Forum

• Support the Events & Projects Manager and the Conference Manager in the planning and delivery of the Degrees Global Forum;
• Coordinate participant registration processes and attendee records;
• Support abstract, poster and session submission processes;
• Support coordination with the venue, destination management company and other event suppliers, including maintaining schedules, requirements and action logs;
• Coordinate travel and accommodation arrangements for funded participants.

Support of policy engagement team

• Maintain the list of external policy engagement contacts.
• Draft general and formal correspondence; reviewing and formatting documents and slides according to style;
• Organise and maintain the policy engagement team’s shared mailbox and filing system;
• Schedule staff and other meetings;
• Support the administration and maintenance of Policy Engagement team processes, including agreed monitoring, evaluation and learning systems;

Qualifications

Essential

• At least two years’ relevant experience in administration, project coordination, events, or a similar role;
• Experience supporting the delivery of events, workshops, conferences, or similar activities, including coordinating travel and other logistics;
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or an additional three years of relevant professional experience;
• Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines and work effectively under pressure;
• Strong attention to detail and a professional, responsible approach to work;
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a dynamic, remote environment;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English;
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds;
• Excellent Microsoft 365 skills, particularly Excel, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook, and confidence learning new digital tools;

About the Spokesperson Network

The Spokesperson Network trains and supports people to speak on television and radio. We are substantially boosting the number of progressive, diverse voices in this space to challenge opposition narratives and boost coverage of underrepresented issues.

The programme works by training, coaching and providing PR booking support for spokespeople from civil society working on social, environmental and economic issues. So far we’ve had over 11,000 high-profile media bookings including Question Time, Newsnight, Good Morning Britain, LBC, Channel 4 News, BBC 5 Live, Today, Sky News and ITV News plus many more.

Purpose of the role

The Press Officer is central to our flagship Spokesperson Network programmes, placing people in broadcast media on a regular basis,  developing and maintaining media contacts and meeting the needs of participants on the Spokesperson Network.

Your main day-to-day role will be identifying opportunities for members of our Spokesperson Network, and then coordinating between them and producers to secure TV and radio opportunities for them. You will build relationships with journalists - and increasingly seek our print and digital opportunities too. 

Most days will involve spotting opportunities in the news early in the day that would be relevant for the spokespeople we have on our books, checking in with the various spokes to see who is available, formatting pitches to put out on our media list and then fixing up the details when media bids come in to ensure that bookings happens smoothly and effectively. 

Requests for the members of the Spokesperson Network happen regularly outside of office hours and during the weekend. Part of this role will involve sharing responsibility to be available to respond to these bookings and fix them up when they happen. You will be recompensed for this with TOIL.

This project is part of a wider Communications Hub in which you’ll play an active role helping to develop the overall strategy and direction of the project. 

What you will be doing

Here are the key responsibilities of this role:

1. Identify relevant stories in the news and subsequently pitch and book spokespeople into broadcast media (television and radio) and respond to media requests. 

2. Train spokespeople to speak in the media and provide media skills training for campaigners and other organisations.

3. Build new media relationships to widen the range of producers working with the Spokesperson Network

4. Support spokespeople, taking into consideration the ways in which broadcast media work interacts with people's identities and lived experience. 

5. Work with others in the Comms Team on the development and implementation of effective messaging.

6. Identifying clippable content, creating clips.

7. Play an active role in the wider Comms Hub, attending and feeding into key messaging and narrative development.

8. Play an active part in the whole NEON team, contributing to organisation-wide plans

Who you are:

• Experience in journalism, communications or media relations 

• Experience of building and maintaining relationships with journalists

• Proven understanding of anti-oppression work and commitment to tackling all institutional forms of oppression, bigotry and exclusion

• Experience working in the economic and social justice campaigning community in any kind of capacity

• Excellent writing and editing skills, including an eye for detail

• Excellent interpersonal skills and communicating appropriately with different stakeholders

We are seeking to recruit a Parliamentary and Policy Assistant to support our legislative and policy programme. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop a career in environmental policy while gaining first-hand experience of how Parliament and the legislative process work, and insight into the nuts and bolts of the operations of a small not-for-profit environmental organisation.

Working as part of a collaborative team, you will monitor parliamentary activity; research environmental policy; help prepare briefings and updates; support engagement with parliamentarians and stakeholders; contribute to communications; and help deliver events. No two days will be the same and you will gain broad exposure to the work of a busy policy team.

Role profile

• Monitor parliamentary activity including questions, debates, select committees, and legislation.

Thanks to a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Avon Wildlife Trust has secured a new climate-resilient, nature recovery site: Ebdon Farm. As Site Manager, you will be at the heart of this exciting project, overseeing habitat restoration and the creation of a 14.5-hectare wetland.  

Brief description of role:

As the new Ebdon Farm Site Manager, you will play a critical role in the development of the Ebdon Farm Nature Reserve.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and diligent Site Manager capable of delivering our most ambitious project yet. You will oversee the delivery of a 14.5ha wetland, along with other terrestrial habitats. You will be experienced in land management for conservation and have a proven track record of overseeing contractors delivering large-scale habitat creation.

Working alongside the new Ebdon Farm Engagement Manager, you will deliver site tours, a variety of events and a volunteer programme. Using your excellent communication skills and knowledge of nature, land management and climate change, you will inspire and inform your audiences. Using Ebdon Farm to increase understanding of local climate threats and the role climate-adapted sites like Ebdon Farm can play in helping us adapt.

We are the UK branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (known as CPA UK). We are based in the Houses of Parliament and represent the UK Parliament in the Commonwealth. We bring together parliamentarians to share good practice. We strengthen parliamentary democracy.

Peer to peer learning is central to how CPA UK works. We organise meetings and visits in the UK and overseas. Our aim is for UK and Commonwealth parliamentarians and officials to share knowledge and learn from each other. Our members talk about a huge variety of topics. Our key themes are eliminating violence against women and girls, tackling climate change, trade in the Commonwealth and digital transformation.

The Finance Manager is responsible for the overall management and delivery of the finance function for CPA UK. You will be responsible for financial modelling and analysis, management of finance data and preparation of the accounts in readiness for the annual external audit. You will ensure that internal finance policies are fit for purpose and that internal financial controls are applied. This includes providing guidance and support to colleagues regarding business decisions.

The Finance Manager will operate as a proactive Finance Business Partner, working closely with managers and senior leaders to provide financial insight, constructive challenge and support overcoming difficulties and answering questions. The postholder will help inform decision-making, problem-solve, improve organisational performance and ensure resources are used effectively to achieve the organisation's objectives.

The role provides a compliance function in filing accounts and recording our Executive Committee’s membership correctly with Companies House and The Charity Commission.

The finance team consists of the Finance Manager and a Finance Officer. The Finance Manager reports to the Deputy Chief Executive who is Head of the Business Strategy Team in which the role sits. CPA UK’s annual turnover is around £3M.

A Rocha UK is a unique Christian nature conservation charity, mobilising Christians and churches to care for the natural world. Job Profile

This role will lead CAFOD’s policy and advocacy work aimed at tackling the global climate crisis. The post holder will have a solid understanding of debates around climate change, in particular how it impacts climate-vulnerable countries in the Global South. You will bring knowledge of the causes of the climate crisis, and its solutions, particularly global financing needs. Working closely with CAFOD’s overseas partners, and within UK and global networks, this role will hold policy expertise on behalf of the organisation. This will involve developing policy positions and representing the organisation externally. The role will work closely with CAFOD’s government relations and campaigns colleagues to lobby decision-makers and mobilise supporters as part of our climate justice work. The National Lottery Community Fund is delivering an environmental strategy that will not only help communities we Fund but also identifies us as an exemplar in managing our own environmental impact. It’s an exciting time to join the Fund as the Environmental Officer role will help lead our journey to Net Zero emissions as well as support our Environmental Strategy both internally and externally.  An interest in climate change and an understanding of environmental sustainability in the workplace will be a key part to this role as well as the confidence to bring in new ideas and support engagement of staff.

The role will sit within the Facilities team which helps support all nine of the Fund’s offices which are based in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

The Environmental Officer role will be varied but some of the key responsibilities are:

• You will be responsible for facilitating the Fund’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact and move towards being a Net Zero organisation. You will lead best practice around environmental sustainability across sites and engage staff to consider their own impact.

• You will support the Fund’s established Climate Action Network, ensuring that they all feel connected to and can contribute to energy and resource savings projects/initiatives/themes.

• You will help with environmental data capture and carbon accounting and reporting on any trends both internally and externally.
   
• You will also provide relevant updates to Senior Management Team (SMT) and work closely with the SMT lead on environmental sustainability, highlighting any issues requiring resolution
   
• The role will mainly be based in one office, but you’ll be required to engage across the Fund and develop communications that will reach all staff.
   
• You may be drawn into any project/team to advise on environmental sustainability.
   
• You will engage with internal and external stakeholders and will support the communication of strong external messages declaring our dedication to working sustainably.

Key responsibilities may include:

• Serve as the Fund’s lead contact for environmental matters, providing advice and maintaining oversight of environmental activity.
• Support the implementation and delivery of the Fund’s Net Zero commitments through effective stakeholder engagement and strategic guidance.
• Coordinate environmental data collection and reporting processes to track performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Draft and coordinate environmental reports, including following guidance for sustainability returns to DCMS and the sustainability report for inclusion within the Annual Report and Accounts.

Skills & Requirements

The candidate for this role should have passion, commitment, and enthusiasm to help deliver our Net Zero targets. They should have good communication skills as well as strong analytical and report writing skills. Previous experience of environmental sustainability within the workplace would be beneficial.

About the role

As Fundraising Manager - Trusts & Foundations, you will play a crucial role in shaping and implementing our fundraising strategy. You will work closely with the Fundraising Manager - Philanthropy and Partnerships and the Chief Executive Officer to grow and diversify Action for Conservation’s income, taking responsibility for our trusts and foundations revenue stream. You will be the driving force behind our grant applications and reports, producing compelling fundraising content that drives donor engagement and maximises income opportunities. You will be able to distill and transform information from various sources about our projects and programmes, including impact data, into readable, persuasive narratives about our work tailored to donor interests and criteria. You will also manage the trusts and foundations pipeline, from researching new prospects and identifying the most appropriate approach for each funder to coordinating grant administration, monitoring and reporting. Through everything you do, you will maintain and build on existing funder relationships and proactively nurture new ones, enabling us to attract and retain funders year after year.

We are looking for a driven and passionate individual with a track record of securing one-off and/or multi-year five- to six-figure grants, who is comfortable managing multiple prospects, deadlines and priorities. To succeed in this role, you will be a skilled and persuasive written communicator with a keen eye for detail, excellent organisation and time-management skills and a positive, flexible and highly proactive approach to your work.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development of our fundraising strategy and annual fundraising plans in line with delivery targets, strategic goals and funding needs; monitor and report on fundraising performance.
• Grow and diversify income from trusts, foundations and statutory funding sources, taking the lead on identifying new opportunities, drafting compelling funding applications and managing the grant fundraising pipeline. 
• Manage all grant administration, monitoring and reporting to funders, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and deadlines.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with funders from trusts, foundations and statutory bodies, encouraging ongoing and increased support.
