Title: Global Communications & External Engagement Manager
Reporting to: Director, Global Communications & External Relations
Background:
Women for Women International works with women and girls affected by conflict as they rebuild their lives.
When war breaks out, women find ways to feed and care for their families. To cope with trauma. To survive. And amid violence and instability, they're often left putting the pieces back together with little support.
By investing in women and girls affected by conflict, we ensure they have the skills, resources and support they need to recover and to thrive. Despite the challenges, they form networks, enhance their income and save money, strengthen knowledge about their health and rights and grow as leaders in their homes and communities.
About the role:
We are looking for an experienced and creative communications professional to join our Communications and External Relations team. This is an exciting opportunity to shape powerful content, strengthen our public profile and build relationships that increase awareness of Women for Women International’s work and impact.
Working across our global organisation and UK communications channels, you will lead external engagement, media relations, thought leadership and organisational events. You will also oversee editorial content for our UK website, blog and email channels, creating compelling communications that support fundraising, strengthen our brand and engage supporters. The role has a 60% focus on global communications and external engagement and a 40% focus on UK channel-specific communications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Identifying and delivering thought leadership and media opportunities that amplify our programmes and support the Global Revenue Strategy.
- Building relationships with journalists, media outlets, influencers, ambassadors, external partners and communications agencies.
- Developing press releases, opinion pieces, pitches and other engaging content for external audiences.
- Creating and managing events strategies, including opportunities for Women for Women International spokespeople to participate in relevant external events.
- Leading editorial content for our UK website, blog, email and other owned channels.
- Producing impactful copy for fundraising acquisition, supporter retention and crisis-response campaigns.
- Supporting targeted email journeys, including audience segmentation, content development and performance reporting.
- Working with colleagues across Country Offices, Regional Hubs, fundraising teams and corporate partnerships to produce effective, brand-aligned communications.
- Setting goals and performance measures, monitoring campaign effectiveness and recommending improvements.
- Providing supportive and inspiring line management to the Communications Officer and supervising the work of our PR Consultant.
This role will suit someone who combines strategic thinking with excellent hands-on delivery. You will have strong PR and media-relations experience, including success in developing pitches that secure earned media coverage, alongside outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills. You will also bring experience of editorial content, email marketing and event planning, together with the ability to manage relationships across different teams, countries and cultures.
You will be organised, resourceful and comfortable balancing several priorities within tight deadlines and limited budgets. Experience of managing and developing others is essential, as is a genuine passion for global issues, women’s empowerment and human rights. The role requires occasional travel, up to four times a year for up to one week at a time.
