About the opportunity

We are looking for a warm, thoughtful and organised Dementia Adviser to join our supportive team in London Borough of Havering working 21 hours per week.

You will work closely with people living with dementia and those who care about them, providing ongoing support. You will listen carefully, understand what matters most to each person and offer guidance that helps them feel steadier and more confident as their situation changes.

Your days will be varied and meaningful. You might be visiting someone at home, offering calm reassurance over the phone, or working closely with other professionals to make sure the right support is in place. We operate a triage system for new referrals and you will play your part in making sure people are responded to quickly and thoughtfully. You will manage your own caseload, keeping clear and accurate records, while always seeing the person behind the paperwork.

You will be part of a caring and dynamic local team who share ideas, reflect together and support one another. There will be time to meet as a team and opportunities to keep growing your knowledge of dementia, with your manager and colleagues alongside you.

About you

You will have:

- An understanding of dementia, or a willingness to learn about the experiences of people living with dementia and those who care for them.
- Experience providing information, guidance, advice or emotional support - this could be from health, social care, community, voluntary, customer service or other people focused roles.
- You will be able to listen and communicate, with the ability to build trust and rapport with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- The ability to manage your workload effectively, with appropriate support and tools, and to balance competing priorities.
- Confidence using IT systems to maintain accurate and confidential records.
- A compassionate, non-judgemental and person-centred approach, with respect for diversity and individual lived experiences.
- The ability to travel independently.
- The confidence and ability to communicate with a wide range of people, adapting your approach to ensure understanding. You will be required to speak publicly at events about dementia, delivering information and signposting people to further resources and networks.

About the Role

As an Independent Victim Advocate you will provide structured, tailored support plans based on holistic assessments for individuals affected by crime. You will make initial contact with victims to explain our service and offer ongoing support via telephone, emails or text, tailoring the support to the victims preferences i.e. home/office visits or weekly calls. Your responsibilities will include developing, delivering, and monitoring safety and support plans, completing risk assessments and providing resources, interventions, and information to service users.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a caseload of self-referred & referred service users, providing information & advocacy to help them navigate the criminal justice process.
• Conduct risk & needs assessments, ensuring each victim receives tailored support & information.
• Identify barriers to accessing services & work with multi agency partners to provide ongoing support.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships and promote effective communication between staff and other stakeholders.
• Keep accurate & confidential case records.
• With further training you will support children and victims of domestic/sexual abuse

About You

Ideally, you will have an understanding of the impact of crime on victims & experience in delivering services within a statutory, voluntary, or multi-agency setting. Experience in managing a caseload and of completing risk & needs assessments would be beneficial.

You will need:

• Strong written & verbal communication skills.
• Competent IT skills, able to use generic systems.
• Good organisational & time management skills, able to manage competing needs and priorities.
• To work effectively both as part of a team & independently
• To develop & maintain partnerships with internal & external organisations.
• The ability to maintain professional boundaries & confidentiality.

This role may involve the requirement to travel to meet service users and attend meetings.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate. You will be working as part of a dynamic team at New Era delivering crisis intervention, advocacy and support to high risk victims of domestic abuse.

The role will involve supporting service users across the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire area, working 37.5 hours a week. 9-5 Monday to Friday, however flexible working and some evenings/ Saturdays maybe required. This post is permanent and subject to hybrid working following successful completion of probationary period .

About the Role

As an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor you will:

• provide a pro-active, high quality, frontline service to victims of domestic violence and abuse aged 18 and above
• make initial contact with victims of crime, explaining our services and assessing the impact of crime, or receive referrals from colleagues
• carry out on-going risk assessment, individual safety planning & offer advocacy and practical support.
• make proactive contact, providing high quality advocacy & support in line with service user needs
• attend relevant meetings & forums providing feedback to the wider team
• build relationships with local organisations to raise the profile of the service.

You will need:

• Experience of safeguarding, working with complex needs and completing risk management and safety planning is desirable.
• An excellent understanding of the issues effecting the communities you support including an understanding of the barriers to accessing support.

About the role

This role is office based in Rochdale Police Station and the ideal candidate will be based 3 days per week with Victim Support and a couple of days with external agencies who deliver direct support to children.

As an IDVA you will:

• provide pro-active, high quality, frontline service to victims of domestic violence & abuse through on-going risk assessment, individual safety planning, advocacy, emotional and practical support.
• work within a multi-agency framework consisting of the MARAC and local partnership responses to domestic abuse to keep safety central to all services for victims of domestic abuse.
• work with survivors to ensure they have on-going support to manage their safety

Key tasks will include:

• Identify & assess risks and needs of domestic abuse victims using an evidence-based risk checklist.
• Focus on & prioritise high risk cases providing a pro-active, short to medium term crisis intervention service, through individual safety planning, advocacy, emotional and practical support.
• Working with high risk victims of domestic abuse assisting them in accessing services to keep them and their family safe.
• Developing individual safety plans to meet client's needs as identified in the needs and risk assessment.
• Providing advocacy, emotional and practical support and information to victims including exploration of legal and civil options, housing, health and finance and support clients through the criminal justice system.
• Empowering clients to recognise the features and dynamics of domestic abuse present in their situation.
• Providing long-term support to victims of domestic violence & abuse, who's ex partners are attending the Drive perpetrator programme.

You will need

• A good understanding of domestic abuse & its impact.
• To understand risk assessment, safety planning & risk management for victims of domestic abuse
• Knowledge of Safeguarding & legal responsibilities relating to this.
• Theoretical, practical & procedural knowledge of civil and criminal justice remedies for victims of domestic abuse.
• Experience of direct service delivery to victims of domestic abuse or other vulnerable people.
