Independent Age is the national charity working towards ending financial hardship in later life.  

Our Helpline and expert advisers offer free information and advice to older people without enough money to live on, while our external training equips professionals with the information they need to support older people on low incomes. Through our grants programme, we fund and support hundreds of local charities working with older people across the UK.  We use the knowledge and insight gained from our support services and partnerships to highlight the issues experienced by older people in poverty and campaign for change.

Responsibilities and Person Specification:

This new role is an integral part of the day-to-day delivery of our Advice and Support Service. The service is targeted at older people in or facing financial hardship, and provides information, advice and follow up support relating to a range of issues, including Welfare Benefits, Social Care and Housing. 

As an Adviser (Scotland) you will be responsible for providing specialist support to older people, their families and carers through our advice service with their enquiries relating to housing and welfare benefits in Scotland as well as providing generalist level support on a range of issues through our duty service.

You should have in depth, specialist level knowledge of Housing or Welfare Benefits in Scotland as they relate to older people. Experience of working within a high-volume advice setting and advice supervision framework such as the AQS framework.

We plan to further develop our advice offer in Scotland to cover advice around charging for Social Care, so whilst not essential, knowledge of this area, or a desire to develop will be beneficial.

This is a full-time role, 35 hours per week, which you can choose to work over five days or a 9-day fortnight. We also are open to this role being worked on a part-time basis on a minimum of 21 hours per week.

About the Role

As a Community Activator, you’ll work with local people and communities across Burton-upon-Trent and Uttoxeter to understand what matters to them and support more people to be active.

You’ll spend time in communities, listening to people’s experiences and ideas, exploring the barriers that can make being active more difficult and helping to support small changes and activities that can make a difference to people’s health and wellbeing.

You’ll also help gather and share community insight, build relationships with local organisations and partners, and support the wider Place Partnership to understand what is working, what is getting in the way and what could be done differently.

Each day will look different. You’ll shape your work around what you learn from local people and your host organisation, while working alongside the other Community Activators as a supportive group.

As the new Ebdon Farm Site Manager, you will play a critical role in the development of the Ebdon Farm Nature Reserve.

We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of co-production and, ideally, knowledge of Parent Carer Forums and how they operate. About the role

We’re looking for a creative, passionate, skilled content creator and campaigner, to produce content for our social media channels which informs, persuades and mobilises our audiences to take action. Reporting to our Social Media Campaigns Manager, you will create campaigning content which will drive change in the UK, making our country fairer, more respectful and more sustainable.

This role will have a particular focus on producing video content – both as a presenter and editor. We are looking for creators who are experienced in producing content for Instagram Reels and TikTok, knowledgeable about social media trends, comfortable on camera and adept at producing vertical video — and want to use those skills to make a difference on the biggest issues impacting people’s lives across the country.

This job is for you if you’re passionate about making the country fairer, more respectful, and more sustainable – and have the skills and drive to create content and develop social media-led campaign tactics which make people want to get involved, join us and take action. We’re looking for someone who has both the content creation skillset and knowledge of current affairs to translate complex issues into entertaining content. HELP DELIVER TRAINING THAT CENTRES LIVED EXPERIENCE

We’re looking for an experienced Oliver McGowan Tier 2 Facilitating Trainer to support and facilitate face-to-face training sessions across Sussex, working alongside autistic trainers and trainers with learning disabilities.

ABOUT LIVED EXPERIENCE TRAINING

Lived Experience Training supports autistic trainers and trainers with learning disabilities to design and deliver training that improves services and communities, while also supporting trainers to build confidence and work skills.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism places the voices of people with lived experience at the centre of learning. As a Facilitating Trainer, you’ll help create an inclusive learning environment in which co-trainers are supported to prepare, participate and lead as fully as possible.

YOU WILL

· Facilitate Oliver McGowan Tier 2 training sessions across Sussex.

· Support autistic trainers and trainers with learning disabilities to prepare for, attend and co-deliver sessions, including reasonable adjustments and practical support where needed.

· Encourage co-trainer confidence, participation and leadership, and support timely debriefs following sessions where required.

· Work closely with the Service Manager and wider Lived Experience Training team to respond to changing support needs and improve delivery.

WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO CAN DEMONSTRATE

· An Oliver McGowan Tier 2 Facilitator qualification and successful experience delivering face-to-face training in health and social care or a similar environment.

· Experience of building rapport and working collaboratively with autistic people and people with learning disabilities.

· Up-to-date knowledge of autism, learning disability and relevant health and social care practice, including legislation relevant to Oliver McGowan training.

· Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation and time-management skills, with the ability to adapt to different learning and support needs.

· The ability to work independently as part of a distance-managed team and travel regularly to training venues across Sussex, including venues that may be difficult to reach by public transport.

An Oliver McGowan Tier 1 Facilitator qualification and a relevant Level 3 training or teaching qualification are desirable but not essential.

🔧 Key Responsibilities

Budget and Strategic Management

● Support organisational financial decision-making through financial analysis, management accounts, budget monitoring and variance reporting.

● Attend regular month-end finance meetings with the Treasurer and General Manager to review financial reporting.

● Develop and maintain templates for recording budgets, cashflow, freelance payment schedule and continuously improve financial systems and processes.

● Grant Reporting: Support project leads with providing financial evidence packs and spend validation reports back to external institutional funders.

Payroll, Pensions & Tax

● Payroll Processing: Work with the payroll provider to support monthly payroll processing, ensuring statutory deductions are accurate.

● Pensions: Oversee pension administration and employer contributions for eligible employees.

● PAYE Administration: Support the onboarding of new PAYE staff by ensuring required payroll, tax and pension information is collected and accurately recorded.

Reporting & Audit Support

● Management Accounts: Assist project leads in preparing termly variance reports for leadership.

● Reporting: Prepare quarterly finance report for Trustee meetings

● Budget Tracking: Monitor organizational cash flow and alert leadership to potential financial risks.

● Year End Accounts: Liaise with the accountant/independent examiner during the annual independent examination, prepare supporting schedules and documentation, maintain audit-ready financial records, and provide financial information required for the statutory annual report and accounts.

🎓 Person Specification: Skills & Qualifications

Essential Requirements

● Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in hands-on bookkeeping, finance administration or management accounting.

Leadership and governance coordination and support
