BACKGROUND

Church of England Birmingham (CofEB) is on a journey of growing churches at the heart of every community. Through this we are seeing growth in many exciting ways. Financially we are at a challenging point. We have had an operational deficit for a number of years and this cannot continue. The National Church has agreed to partner with us around this through their Diocesan Investment Programme enabling us to have the time, and resource, to tackle this head on. One key aspect of this is for us to increase our Common Fund returns (the giving from our parishes that supports the costs of our life together). We are taking a radical new approach to our finances which includes intentional reallocation of income to support the costs in our most economically deprived parishes and deeper relationships with each parish around finance through conversation rather than correspondence. Over the next five years we are hoping to be able to move to a financially sustainable platform which will enable us to better serve our communities in the future.

We have recently recruited a new Head of Generosity, who is also Bishops Advisor for Common Fund, to lead on this work and we are now looking to recruit the team to work with them. The focus of the team is to develop long term relationships with all of our parishes leading to:

• Greater support for our parishes.
• Increased generosity by, and within, our parishes.
• Increased Common Fund.

The current plan is to recruit two Giving & Generosity Advisor roles and one Giving & Generosity Support Officer role. Together this team will work with all of our parishes to roll out our financial approach, through in person meetings, and the support that is on offer as part of this. 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The primary focus of this role is to work with parishes to:

• Understand their current financial situation and how this links to the wider Church of England Birmingham situation.
• Understand our model and how support is on offer for parishes who are economically deprived.
• Assess with them the support needed to increase generosity and giving at a local level and create an action plan around this that is bespoke and contextual.
• Create a long-term plan for their participation in the common fund.

We have 146 parishes and the Head of Generosity will manage the team so that all parishes can be engaged as quickly as possible. It is the Head of Generosity and two Giving & Generosity Advisors who will be carrying out the in-person meetings with each parish. These roles will work closely with a range of people and teams across Church of England Birmingham so that this work is integrated within our wider strategy and parishes are not confused by multiple disjointed initiatives. This will mean working with Archdeacons and Area Deans, Mission Support Team, Ministry Team, Property Team, Finance Team, Community Regeneration Team and Communications Team as well as others.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Develop strong relationships with parishes that will enable this project to flourish and also help increase the connection between parishes and the DBF. Signposting to other teams and projects will be important.
• Inspiring and encouraging parishes in their Christian approach to giving and generosity
• Creating bespoke multiyear plans for Common Fund with parishes with the support of a Steering Group that includes the Archdeacons and other key stakeholders.
• Provide consultancy, resources, and hands-on support to parishes to grow regular giving, legacies, and other forms of financial support. This work will be able to draw on the resources developed by the national church as well as the data held on their Cornerstone Grants Platform. The post-holder will be expected to engage in the work of the National Giving Team as part of the development of these wider resources.
• Develop and deliver training for clergy, lay leaders and PCCs on the theology and Christian practice of giving and generosity and also practical financial management (in conjunction with the Finance Team).
• Work closely with the Finance Team in matters of technical accounting, governance and financial management identified as needed by parishes.
• Encourage and assist parishes in the implementation of the Parish Giving Scheme, introduction of contactless giving mechanisms and related diocesan resources.
• Source, develop and curate practical resources (digital and print) to support local stewardship campaigns and initiatives.

• Evaluate the impact of stewardship and generosity initiatives and adapt strategies accordingly to achieve the project outcomes.
• Working with our Communications Team, create compelling communication tools that articulate the impact of generosity.

As we are looking to recruit two people into these roles there is flexibility to appoint people with complementary skill sets who may have greater expertise in certain elements of the role.

• Strong understanding of church governance structures and financial operations and requirements.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The post-holder will be employed by the Diocesan Board of Finance for a fixed term ending on 2nd November 2030, subject to funding.

Salary and Pension: Salary of £35,000 plus membership of the Church Worker’s Pension Scheme with 12% employer contribution. We are open to discussion especially if you are ordained and are moving out of parish ministry. 

Hours: Full-time 35 hours (5 days) per week. Weekend and evening work will be required, for which the equivalent time may be taken back from standard working hours. We are happy to consider requests for flexible working and candidates seeking part-time hours. Holidays: 5 weeks per year plus Bank Holidays and 3 Discretionary Days between Christmas and New Year

Money & Me Navigator
Salary: £27,596.00 per annum, pro rata

In this role as a Money & Me Navigator, you will proactively identify people with mental health issues whose lives are being impacted due to financial concerns, at places like GP surgeries and community-based organisations.

Money & Me Navigators are well positioned to support those who are less likely to come forward for support or reluctant to access mental health care due to stigma or discrimination.

You will provide one to one and/or group support, using trauma informed approaches, to empower people with mental health issues whose lives are being impacted due to financial concerns. By doing this, you will support people to become more resilient and better able to deal with problems they may have in the future.

Actively seek out potential referrals and promote the service within primary care settings and the community. You will build relationships with other agencies that support people with financial concerns, for example welfare rights services, housing organisations, faith-based organisations.

In this role you will also support our Welfare Rights & Debt Advice Team with administration and support the clients to access higher levels of advice including completion of forms.

About Money and Me

We know that poor mental health can make earning and managing money harder, and that worrying about money can make our mental health worse.

Money & Me aims to equip people with the understanding, self-compassion and practical tools to navigate and get around those barriers to financial wellbeing. Co-designed by people who have lived experience of money and mental health problems, alongside mental health and financial professionals, we work with individuals and in group settings.

Money & Me is a psychoeducation course that supports people experiencing mental health problems to improve their financial wellbeing. Over 8 sessions, people work with a trained mental health navigator to explore their relationship with money, set personal goals, and build a toolkit of practical strategies they can use to manage their money and mental health.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a caseload of clients, providing goal-oriented support for up to 8 weeks.
• Facilitate group sessions for individuals with mental health and financial struggles.
• Promote the service within primary care and community settings, building relationships with agencies like welfare rights and housing organisations.
• Support clients to access higher levels of advice and complete relevant forms.
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure client safety.
• Record case notes accurately and use data to evaluate service effectiveness.
• Collaborate with partner agencies (mental health services, etc.) to ensure client support.
• Represent the service at meetings and network with other professionals.
• Provide administrative support to the Welfare Rights & Debt Advice Team.

Context

Childhood First enables children and young people to recover from early life abuse and relational trauma, to enjoy life and to achieve their potential. We do this through the provision of specialist therapeutic residential care and treatment, together with family and network support. Purpose

The Statutory Compliance Administrator plays a key role in supporting statutory, safeguarding and regulatory processes within the home. About the role

After extensive scoping work throughout 2025, we are launching an exciting project to create a step change in the way we deliver our organisational knowledge, clinical expertise and information to add commercial value to potential customers across a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, diagnostic and pharmaceutical companies.  This new role of Head of Commercial Development will own the creation, development and delivery of this work.

The FDIO will take the lead in developing the reports, dashboards and insight that directly support fundraising growth. You’ll also work hand-in-hand with our Database Manager to improve data quality, support data imports and ensure we are capturing information effectively across the organisation. About you

We’re looking for someone who has hands-on experience with CRM systems (ideally Raiser’s Edge or similar), strong reporting and visualisation skills, and the ability to work confidently with data importing and management processes. You’ll be analytical, curious, and a natural problem-solver with strong Excel skills and the ability to present data clearly to different audiences.

Experience of predictive analytics or advanced segmentation would be an advantage, but most importantly you’ll be someone who enjoys improving systems and has a proactive approach to data.

Beyond Reflections is a UK charity providing dedicated mental-wellbeing support to Trans+ people, as well as to their families,

friends, and allies. We offer a combination of group support, one-to-one services, and therapeutic interventions delivered by experienced case workers, counsellors, and therapists.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity for an experienced freelance fundraiser with a passion for sustainability to pioneer new and imaginative ways to fund the Net Zero Carbon work for our historical buildings in a first of its kind role within the Church of England.

The Net Zero Carbon Freelance Fundraiser will play a key role in supporting carbon reduction projects in churches in the Pontefract area, raising funds for a group of parishes in the area over a fixed period. As the role is regionally based, there will be a requirement to travel to the nominated churches across Pontefract.

The successful candidate will scope and apply for funds from statutory bodies, charitable trusts and other sources for Net Zero projects and work closely with the Vicar of Pontefract and the Diocese’ Net Zero Carbon Programme Manager throughout their time in post. They will be self-motivated, with the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.

This is a self-employed position offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 12 months, with a total fee payable of £25,000, paid equally over 12 months. The working pattern will be agreed in line with the group’s requirements, but it is expected that a minimum of 100 hours per month (2-3 days/week) would be dedicated to this project.

Women in Prison’s Project Workers deliver high-quality, trauma-informed, independent advocacy for women in communities and in prisons, which focuses on early intervention, and holistic provision as part of a ‘whole system’ multi-agency response that looks to address the root causes of women’s offending. Summary

This exciting new role will raise the funds to enable The River Thames Boat Project to expand our cruises and education programme on the River Thames, and cover our annual running costs.

Through your fundraising expertise, you will have a proven track record of raising capital funds, building relationships with individuals, community groups, trusts and foundations and other donors to achieve and exceed annual capital and income targets. You will have the skills to create compelling proposals and appeals that successfully engage and attract donations from new and existing supporters.

Background

Established in 1988, our charity's mission is to make the River Thames accessible to all.

We provide opportunities for individuals to experience river and waterways environments to enhance their personal, social, and educational wellbeing.

Using our fully wheelchair-accessible community boats we deliver educational programmes for children and young people across London and the South East, and therapeutic cruises for people of all ages who have limited access to the Thames due to health issues, disabilities, isolation or social exclusion.

A small staff team of four and more than 100 volunteers support the charity. In 2021, we received The Queens Award for Voluntary Service. The charity, more than thirty five years old, is run by a volunteer Board of Trustees.

We rely on grants, donations and community fundraising to subsidise the cost of our charitable activities on the River Thames.

We are seeking a fundraising professional to grow our charitable income across all streams (grants, foundations, corporate sponsors), raise significant capital funds, reinvigorate our members program, diversify our fundraising income and establish a volunteer fundraising committee.

As Fundraising Manager you will also be responsible for marketing the charity to prospective clients through mailings, social media and other routes.

What you'll be doing

1. Develop and execute a fundraising strategy that aligns with the charity's business plan and future ambitions
2. Develop and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing funders
3. Research potential trust and foundation funders, write compelling bids and ensure effective reporting and stewardship
4. Revitalise the charity's members' program (Friends of RTBP)
5. Create and lead a volunteer fundraising committee to support our initiatives.
6. Ensure effective records are kept and a database developed for fundraising and the members' program
7. Ensure all fundraising is compliant with GDPR and other legal and best practice standards
8. Develop and implement marketing plans for the charity's cruises and education work
9. Attend the Trustee finance and fundraising committee and produce reports on activities and income as required

What we're looking for

1. Proven experience in raising capital and income for small to medium size charities from multiple sources
2. Self-motivated and proactive with great interpersonal skills to work with staff members, volunteers, trustees, and external funders from individual to corporate donors
3. Proven ability to research funders, write compelling bids and manage relationships with funders
4. A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
5. An interest or link with the Thames or environmental activities is desirable

• Proficient in Microsoft 365
• Able to create compelling, professional designs for promotional and marketing materials using Canva or Adobe suite.
