We’re now looking for a permanent, part-time Finance Director to join our Senior Management team, shape and manage the finance department and bring financial insight to all areas of decision making. 

Overview of the role 

• Overseeing and continuously improving our financial systems, controls and processes 

• Leading, mentoring and developing the finance team 

• Producing management accounts and reports to funders 

• Analysis of financial performance and drivers 

• Leading budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes. 

• Cash and treasury management 

• Prepare statutory accounts and run the external audit processes. 

• VAT checks and returns 

• Ensuring compliance with charity, company and tax regulations and funder requirements

To play a key role in the Production Management team at Southbank Centre, working closely with the Director of Technical Production, Head of Production, the Production Management team and wider department and colleagues throughout the organisation to ensure the effective use of systems and resources to deliver the technical elements of a varied programme, primarily in commercial events, but also contemporary and classical music, literature talks, theatre and dance, to the highest standards.

The annual salary stated is based on the Full-Time Equivalent (40 hours per week). If the job is part-time, the weekly hours will be stated within the advert.

Key Responsibilities

• To ensure a smooth and professional presentation of technical requirements of each event wherever SC activities are taking place.
• To ensure that allocated Production activities are fully and properly staffed – using resident staff, specialist contractors and freelancers as appropriate.
• To manage budgets as required; to evaluate and cost the technical requirements of events and to ensure that resources are used efficiently and that recharges are made. 
• To keep up to date with technical advancements contribute suggestions so that the capital investment programme appropriately reflects the production needs of the centre. 
• To be responsible for the management of Health & Safety issues within SC’s policies and to ensure that safe working practices are used at all times, including undertaking risk assessment and ensuring that all necessary risk assessments are provided by third parties where necessary.

Skills & Experience

• Demonstrable, extensive experience in one of the following artforms: theatre, dance, corporate events, classical or contemporary music, as well as a good working knowledge of the others. 
• Experience of working in a multidisciplinary live arts environment with a demonstrable record in the delivery of events at the highest technical standards.
• Working knowledge of the usage, operation and safe handling of the equipment of the disciplines covered by the Production Department including without limitation stage, lighting, sound, AV and temporary installations for a broad range of events: orchestral, contemporary music, conferences, talks, film screenings, dance and performance.
• Obtains project management skills and can demonstrate experience of managing and organising the work of a team. 
• A demonstrable working knowledge of Safe Working Practices, Health & Safety and contractual requirements and is able to carry out risk assessments.

About the role

This is a part-time, fixed-term role (21 hours per week) and a genuine investment in your professional development. As a Welfare Benefits Trainee Adviser, you will receive structured, on-the-job training to build the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to provide high-quality, person-centred advice. You will work under close supervision, with the opportunity to achieve the AdviceUK Learning to Advise (LTA) Full Programme certification within your first six months, between September and December 2026.

Day to day, you will support service users with a range of practical needs: interpreting calls, helping with GP registrations, guiding people through form applications, assisting with school enrolment, and providing orientation on accessing government support. As your training progresses, your responsibilities will develop towards more in-depth welfare benefits advice.

This is not an entry-level role that leaves you unsupported. You will be supervised, mentored, and developed throughout, and if you complete your probation successfully, further training and qualification opportunities may follow.

What we are looking for

You will be an advanced Spanish speaker with at least six months of experience working with individuals or communities in a supportive capacity, paid or voluntary. You will bring empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to the communities we serve, alongside a structured, organised approach and a willingness to learn.

You do not need to be a qualified adviser yet. What matters most is that you are ready to grow into one.

Hackney Empire is looking for a new Deputy Technical Manager.

The new role of Deputy Technical Manager will play a critical operational and leadership role within our busy 1,250-seat theatre and additional rehearsal and event spaces. Supporting the Technical Manager, you will lead and motivate a committed technical team to ensure the flawless execution of large-scale transfers, touring musical theatre, dance, opera, comedy and live music shows; supporting produced work and public-facing activity from our Creative Futures programme. 

This is a balanced, hands-on and production-focused role. It requires combining administrative and logistical preparation - such as advancing technical riders, developing costings and estimates and preparing staff rotas - with leadership and delivery of high-level stagecraft management during intensive fit-ups, show operations and rapid get-outs.  

Hackney Empire is looking for a new Theatre Technician.

The Theatre Technician plays a vital operational role within our busy 1,250-seat theatre and additional rehearsal and event spaces. Supporting the technical leadership team, you will deliver exceptional hands-on technical support across stagecraft, lighting, sound and rigging systems to realise the creative ambitions of visiting companies and in-house productions. 

This is a production-focused role that requires combining physical, high-level stagecraft management during the intensive fit-ups, live show operations and rapid get-outs with a proactive approach to health and safety, equipment maintenance and visiting company care.
