Safer Recruitment
Depaul UK is committed to fair and inclusive recruitment, and we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. If a role requires it under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975, we will carry out the appropriate Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. All DBS information is handled sensitively, confidentially and in line with the DBS Code of Practice, and we encourage applicants to discuss any concerns with us openly.
About Depaul UK
In the 1980s, high unemployment and steep inflation was contributing to a shocking rise in youth homelessness across London. Thousands of young people were sleeping rough every night, with many areas notoriously dubbed “cardboard cities” due to the visible rise in street homelessness. Appalled by the scenes playing out across the capital, a group of people came together to tackle the challenge head on. Led by Cardinal Basil Hume and Mark McGreevy OBE, in 1989 Depaul UK was born.
What began as a single housing project in North London soon expanded across London, Greater Manchester and the North East of England. Today, Depaul UK provides accommodation, prevention and support services to thousands of marginalised young people across the UK each year.
As our name suggests, the work of Depaul UK has been inspired by St. Vincent de Paul – a man who devoted his life to helping vast numbers of people throughout the 17th century. St. Vincent de Paul’s belief in the intrinsic worth of all people and his commitment to taking bold action remain central to our values today. Depaul UK now forms part of a family of Depaul charities around the world. We each focus on the specific challenges in our own countries, but we’re united by our shared values and mission to end homelessness.

We get to know every person we work with, understanding what they need to recover, helping them build on their strengths, and supporting them to find their own way home. Help us make London a city where no one sleeps rough on our streets.
London’s diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects London’s diversity at all levels. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability.
We particularly encourage applications from candidates with lived experience of homelessness who we believe are an essential asset in our sector.
We are committed to being an inclusive employer and welcome the opportunity to consider flexible working arrangements.
About the Role
We are seeking a day support worker for our high-quality, self-contained accommodation for women who have experienced homelessness and multiple disadvantage. The role is located at an 18-bed, 24-hour supported housing service in Clapham.

You will work closely with Specialist Support Workers who manage individual resident support and safety plans.
The service and the wider organisation recognise the high levels of trauma that precede and perpetuate homelessness, and the complex, interconnecting needs that develop against this backdrop (including mental and physical health difficulties, substance misuse, brain injury, emotion dysregulation, interpersonal problems, and stigma and exclusion). The service operates as a best-practice, Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE), working in close partnership with homeless mental health experts and includes an in-house psychologist, offering therapeutic input to residents, and support and training to staff. In this role, you will model person-led, psychological, gender, and culturally informed support, will be skilled at building trust and you will be a great team player.
The post holder will undertake 8-hour shifts on a 7-day rota, covering the hours 07:45 am to 20:15 pm. Please be aware that the building has several floors and no lifts.
Due to the nature of this women’s supported housing service and the needs of the residents, this role is open to women only. This is considered to be an occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
