About Starlight
Starlight is the national charity for children's play in healthcare.
We believe that healthcare should be a more humane and child-centred experience for every child. We work across the UK to champion the importance of play during treatment, care and recovery, supporting children, parents and carers, and healthcare professionals.
Play is integral to children's wellbeing. It can help children experience greater agency, autonomy and control during healthcare, express thoughts and feelings, build resilience and make healthcare settings feel more welcoming and safe. But play is still too often overlooked or treated as an optional extra within children's healthcare.
Our ambition is to end preventable trauma in children's healthcare.
Our new strategy is taking Starlight into an important next phase. We want to build on the expertise, evidence, influence, partnerships and brand positioning we have developed over recent years and use them to create greater impact for children and families.
That means becoming a stronger voice for change: increasing understanding of children's experiences of healthcare, influencing the systems and people who shape children's healthcare, strengthening our relationships with supporters and partners, and communicating with greater clarity, consistency and impact.
Our brand and communications have an increasingly important and broad role to play. We need to tell powerful stories, challenge assumptions, engage people emotionally and intellectually, and make it clear why children's healthcare needs to change.
This is an exciting time to join Starlight and help shape how our purpose, personality and ambition are experienced by the people who matter most.
Our Strategy and the Creative Designer
Our ambition is to influence how children's healthcare is understood and experienced.
To do that successfully, we need communications and creative work that is distinctive, compelling and purposeful. We need to communicate with different audiences in ways that help them feel, understand and ultimately do something differently. As our Creative Designer, you will play an important role in making that happen.
Working as part of the Influence, Insight & Communications team and reporting to the Communications & Brand Manager, you will develop ideas and produce high-quality work across campaigns, fundraising, influencing, digital communications, events and organisational communications.
You will also help to evolve how Starlight looks, feels and expresses itself, ensuring that our creative work is distinctive, consistent and recognisably Starlight.
You will work closely with our Digital Content Creator, who leads the production of channel-native video and social content. You will contribute visual concepts, campaign identities, graphics, storyboards and brand treatments to help this content feel coherent, distinctive and recognisably Starlight.
You will help Starlight make effective use of new creative technologies, including AI, where they can improve efficiency, enable experimentation or extend our creative capability. We want to use technology to help us work smarter and create more, without compromising creative judgement, authenticity or quality.
You will work with colleagues across Starlight and, where appropriate, with external creative specialists to ensure our communications are engaging, accessible, authentic and effective.

Reporting to: Chief Executive
Contract: 12-month fixed-term contract
Salary: £45,000–£48,000 per annum, depending on experience
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in an important period of development and transformation for West London Synagogue.
Working closely with the executive team, the postholder will provide coordination and project management across a range of organisational priorities and will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the wider transformation programme.
The role will bring together project management, organisational performance, impact measurement, reporting and continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will help turn strategic priorities into practical plans, ensure projects remain on track, and provide clear information to senior leaders and the Board about progress, performance and impact.
This is a broad and varied role for someone who enjoys working across an organisation, bringing structure to complexity and helping people turn good ideas into effective delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. Transformation and Organisational Priorities
- Play a key role in coordinating and supporting the organisation's transformation programme.
- Work with the Chief Executive, the finance and resources director and senior colleagues to translate strategic priorities into clear plans, actions, milestones and deliverables.
- Track progress against agreed priorities and identify risks, delays, dependencies and resource pressures.
- Identify connections and opportunities for collaboration between different projects and programmes.
- Support colleagues in embedding new processes, systems and ways of working arising from the transformation programme.
- Ensure that agreed decisions are translated into clear actions, ownership and follow-through.
- Support a culture of continuous improvement, learning and accountability.
The postholder will not be expected to manage every change initiative directly. Their role will be to provide structure, coordination and visibility across the transformation programme, working with colleagues who own individual projects and areas of work.
2. Project Management
- Plan, coordinate and deliver a range of organisational projects in line with agreed priorities and timelines.
- Develop proportionate project plans setting out objectives, milestones, deliverables, responsibilities, dependencies and measures of success.
- Coordinate internal teams, volunteers, partners and external stakeholders where required.
- Facilitate project meetings, workshops and reviews.
- Maintain clear project documentation, actions and decision logs.
Projects are likely to vary in scale and nature and may include organisational improvement, systems and process development, governance, member services, operational change, programme development and cross-team initiatives.
3. Organisational Performance and Data
- Collect, analyse and interpret data to understand project and organisational performance and impact
- Develop clear and proportionate dashboards and management information.
- Identify trends, gaps, risks and areas requiring attention.
- Work with colleagues to establish meaningful KPIs and measures of success.
- Ensure information is accurate, appropriately managed and compliant with relevant data protection requirements.
4. Board and Senior Leadership Reporting
- Coordinate the preparation of clear, concise and meaningful reports for the Board.
- Establish and maintain an effective reporting timetable.
- Track actions and decisions arising from Board and committee meetings and ensure appropriate follow-up.
The emphasis will be on insight rather than simply reporting activity — helping leaders and trustees understand what is happening, why it matters and where action is required.
5. Governance, Compliance and Policies
- Maintain and regularly update the organisational compliance log, duties and mitigation plans.
- Monitor progress against compliance requirements and highlight emerging risks.
- Support colleagues to ensure compliance actions are followed through.
- Develop, review and update organisational policies and operational procedures.
6. Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination
- Build effective working relationships across the organisation.
- Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, trustees, partners and external stakeholders.
- Bring people together where projects or priorities cross organisational boundaries.
- Facilitate meetings, workshops and project reviews where required.
- Communicate progress, challenges, risks and successes clearly and appropriately.

- Experience supporting an organisational transformation or change programme.
- Experience working in a charity, synagogue, community organisation, social enterprise or other purpose-led organisation.
- Experience working with Boards, trustees or governance committees.
- Experience developing organisational dashboards or management information.

As Innovation Strategy Manager you will lead in helping Battersea learn, experiment and develop new solutions to drive forward our strategic priorities, keeping us relevant, future-focused and generating ever greater impact.
All work is delivered through creativity, collaboration within and outside of Battersea and a deep understanding of our target audiences, balancing ambition and pragmatism.
Why the role exists:
This is a rare opportunity to lead in helping Battersea learn, experiment and develop new solutions to positively impact the lives of cats, dogs, and their owners for years to come. You’ll bring strong strategic thinking, innovation expertise, service design, and leadership skills to an environment focused on meaningful social impact, working alongside a team of smart, compassionate, and experienced colleagues.
This role focuses on broad, organisation-wide innovation - spanning our services, operations, supporter offering, and income generation - with a clear focus on delivering outcomes for animals and the people who care for them. It is not a specialist digital or fundraising role; instead, it centres on identifying the right problems and shaping effective responses. While some initiatives will involve digital elements (and an understanding of this is useful), delivery is carried out by specialist teams both in-house and externally.
Success in this role means identifying high-impact opportunities, aligning stakeholders around them, and ensuring they are taken forward effectively - supporting pilots and implementation where appropriate.
What we can offer you:
In return for your commitment to our cause and to recognise the value of our employees, Battersea offers a range of benefits to support the wellbeing of our employees. These include:
- 28 days of annual leave (plus 8 days paid public holidays) per year.
- Discounted gym memberships and cycle to work schemes.
- Employee Assistance Programme and access to Wellbeing Resources.
- Generous pension contributions - up to 10% employer contribution.
- Free healthcare cash plan, where you can claim for a range of treatment including dental, optical, physiotherapy, chiropody and acupuncture every year.
- Annual interest-free season ticket loans.
We are also committed to providing learning and development to our employees. During your time with us, we provide support for your professional and career development, including access to digital and in-person training programmes, leadership and management training, mentoring and much more.
Our hybrid working model:
We operate a 50% onsite hybrid working model, with our office-based staff splitting their time between site based and home working. This enables our office-based staff to balance the benefits of home working with onsite collaboration and maintaining a connection to our cause.
Diversity and inclusion:
We are committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive experience for all staff, volunteers and trustees and those hoping to join us. We operate an anonymised shortlisting process and actively seek to ensure our process is fair and equitable for all.
We understand the value of diverse voices, perspectives, and experiences to help us deliver even more for our dogs and cats, and we welcome applicants from all sections of the community.
As a Disability Confident Committed Employer we will ask about any adjustments you may need at application and/or interview stage, and if you are offered a role with us, we’ll talk to you about any workplace adjustments you may need to help you perform at your best. Greyscale copies of the recruitment pack are also available on request.
More about us:
At Battersea, we aim to never turn away a dog or cat in need of help. We give each one lots of love, expert care and get to know their characters and quirks so we can find them a new home that’s just right for them. Join us and help us be here for every dog and cat, wherever they are, for as long as they need us.
Acceptable use of AI:
At Battersea, we value expertise. We recognise each candidate that applies to us will have a range of expertise they can offer us, so we want to hear about this in your own words. We understand the support that generative artificial intelligence (AI) software can offer but it can also lead to numerous applications presenting as generic and impersonal. This makes it difficult to gain understanding of your unique experience.
To best showcase yourself, we encourage you to write your responses without the assistance of AI. If you require the use of AI software to aid in completing your application, we ask you use the generative responses as a prompt for writing your answers and avoid copying and pasting. You must also ensure the information presented in your application accurately reflects your experience.

The Support and Grants Manager is at the heart of Cavell’s support for nursing and midwifery professionals experiencing financial hardship and other challenges. Leading our busy frontline Support Team, you will ensure people receive compassionate, timely and high-quality support when they need it most.
You will lead the delivery and quality of our grant-giving service, ensuring applications are assessed fairly, consistently and confidently against Cavell’s criteria. But our support goes beyond a grant. You will help ensure we understand each person’s wider needs and connect them with the information, advice, practical support and specialist services that can make a lasting difference.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys both leading people and delivering services. You will work alongside the team to assess applications, coach and develop colleagues, manage demand and performance, and maintain high standards of decision-making. Using data, insight and frontline experience, you will also identify emerging needs and continually improve how Cavell supports the nursing and midwifery community.
You will play a key role in shaping a service that is compassionate, efficient, evidence-led and continually evolving around the needs of the people we support.
Overview of Responsibilities:
1. Operational Service Delivery
- Lead the day-to-day operation and quality of Cavell's grant-giving and support service, approving grant recommendations within delegated authority and ensuring applications are assessed fairly, accurately and consistently against Cavell's eligibility criteria, policies and available funds. Escalate exceptional, complex or higher-risk decisions appropriately.
- Ensure applicants' wider needs are identified and, where appropriate, provide or facilitate information, advice, income maximisation, signposting and referral to Cavell services and external specialist support.
- Monitor team caseloads, demand and capacity, processing times and performance against Service Level Agreements, identifying emerging demand or capacity pressures and planning service coverage accordingly.
- Manage your own active caseload and assess applications alongside the team, particularly during periods of high demand.
- Lead the development and maintenance of the online Support Hub and other beneficiary-facing resources, ensuring information is accurate, current and useful, and using casework, data and recurring enquiries to identify gaps in information and self-guided support.
2. Safeguarding, Risk and Compliance
- Ensure safeguarding concerns, vulnerability and risk identified through applications and casework are recognised, recorded, managed and escalated appropriately.
- Regularly quality-assure grant assessments, casework and decisions to ensure eligibility criteria, policies and procedures are applied consistently, with learning or corrective action where required.
- Ensure assessments and decisions are appropriately evidenced and recorded, with clear rationale and audit trails, particularly for complex or exceptional cases.
- Work with Finance and the Head of Services & Impact to ensure awards comply with restricted fund criteria and delegated authority, monitor grant expenditure and available balances, and identify financial pressures early.
3. Data, Insight, Evaluation and Reporting.
- Collect, analyse, and present performance and outcome data in reports, dashboards, and evaluations to demonstrate the difference Cavell’s support makes to the nursing professionals we support.
- Lead continuous improvement of operational processes, workflows and systems, using data, applicant feedback and frontline learning to make support simpler, faster, more consistent and more compassionate. You will work with relevant colleagues and suppliers where required.
- Identify and report emerging needs, trends, operational pressures and risks from service data and frontline experience, providing insight to support service development, organisational planning, research and advocacy.
