Role Overview
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of HCPT’s Senior Leadership Team, responsible for the effective delivery and high performance of all operational and business support aspects of the charity’s work. This includes leadership of all business support functions; Finance, HR, IT and Governance, working with and through internal teams and external business partners. As such we are looking for an experienced chartered accountant who is also astute in leading the wider business operation of medium sized charity.
The postholder will have oversight of the quality and efficiency aspects of all that we do in planning and execution of pilgrimages, care & safeguarding, compliance and infrastructure and will support the CEO to develop a culture of accountability and high impact, whilst staying true to our values of: Compassion, Faith, Inclusion, Community and Celebration.
The COO will ensure that HCPT’s operations are safe, efficient, and aligned with our Catholic ethos and mission of inclusion and care, and that our performance is optimised to deliver excellence, which is: THE BEST pilgrimage experience we can offer as defined and measured by our beneficiaries and volunteers.
This is a senior role in volunteer-led organisation and as such the successful postholder will be required to exercise flexibility with evening and weekend work to meet the business needs of the charity, given the availability of our volunteer leaders who have professional commitments during the day. The role also requires the post holder to travel to and work in Lourdes for two weeks over Easter each year, leading operational delivery of our largest annual pilgrimage.

Main Role & Responsibilities
The post holder will be an active member of our programmes team and will work across our portfolio of programmes, with responsibility for engagement within Wales. Although remote working, they would need to be living in Wales for travel purposes.

About the Role
This is a key operational role at the heart of The Loss Foundation's support services. You'll coordinate our programme of bereavement support events and act as the main point of contact for our extraordinary community of volunteers who give their time to ensure nobody faces cancer bereavement alone. The role:

The Enhanced Support & Grants Team Manager is instrumental in ensuring our clients who present with the most complex and vulnerable of situations receive specialised, tailored support to achieve financial stability and become debt-free. Your key focus is to lead and empower a team of specialist Debt Advisors who operate at the intersection of complex financial distress and significant personal vulnerability. Effective personnel management of staff, to facilitate the delivery of a high-performing debt help service in collaboration with the church through:
Ensuring adequate staffing by managing holidays, sickness and other absence within your team and across the Hubs
Regular catch-ups which include feedback on quality and output indicators, client outcomes and customer service. Bringing encouragement, challenge and coaching on how to improve these and seeking to empower team members.
Delivering effective team communication, both written and verbal, to engage staff members in business as usual and aid smooth change management. Demonstrating active ownership of organisational awareness and wider strategy.
Workload management to facilitate an effective debt service by:
Collaborating with the Enhanced Support Leads, Enhanced Support In-Team Specialists, the Regional Team Managers and the Senior Hub Delivery Managers to ensure the workload is prioritised to meet agreed Service Level Agreements.
Participation in the wider Church and Client Support management team. This includes working with other Team Managers in your department, taking ownership of decisions pertinent to your area and covering responsibilities as needed when other managers are absent. Also included is attendance and participation on a directorate wide level and the willingness and ability to lead in that broader context where required.
Overseeing Specialised Client Support
Provide strategic oversight and guidance to the wider team of in-team specialists. This includes ensuring appropriate escalation pathways and adherence to best practices in safeguarding and the FCA’s consumer duty regulations.
