Job description

Adfam is the leading charity in England for all the millions of people affected by someone else’s drinking, drug use or gambling.

We work to improve the lives of anyone affected by the substance use or gambling of others, giving them a voice. We work with family members and carers, support frontline staff and volunteers and influence decision-makers to raise awareness of the needs of this large group of people. Family members are at the heart of all our work and inform everything we do. Consequently, our activities are built around supporting both those people affected by a loved one’s substance use with our direct services and the workers who support them, offering training to build skills, developing best practice guidance and advocating on behalf of families by undertaking research which can be used to influence policy at a local and national level.

We are seeking to recruit a skilled, enthusiastic and energetic Policy and Communications Assistant to support our Policy and Communications Lead to take forward an ambitious programme to amplify the voice of families affected by substance use, challenge stigma and promote the necessary local support that families need. It is ideal for someone looking to enter the voluntary sector and gain experience of a national charity. The post-holder will have good communication skills, be adept in managing the priorities of a busy workload, be willing to learn, and have a commitment to supporting and empowering some of our most vulnerable citizens.
