About the role

The Senior Advice Worker – SEND will be the specialist and subject expert in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and kinship care. You’ll provide 1:1 advice directly to kinship carers on all issues that impact on their caring role.

You will often be supporting kinship carers in high crisis. It will be part of your job to calm a situation quickly and support people to communicate what they need so you can provide personalised in-depth advice.

You’ll provide advice by phone, video calls and email, but you’ll also need to be able to respond to text, WhatsApp and online chat and other channels as we develop the service.

You’ll specialise in providing advice and information to enable kinship carers to support children with SEND needs, including speech, language and communication difficulties, social, emotional and mental health challenges, specific learning difficulties, and autism.

This will include advice and casework to support kinship carers to navigate the education system, understand Education, Health and Care Plan processes and access support from schools, children’s services and CAMHS.

As subject expert, you’ll provide expert input to the development of written information and resources and the development and delivery of specialist training for kinship carers.

Key responsibilities include:

• Respond to enquiries through a range of incoming channels. This includes taking calls on our advice line, as well as responding to enquiries submitted through our website, via internal referral or other channels.
• Provide high quality advice and information to kinship carers on their rights, entitlements and responsibilities in relation to welfare benefits, local authority allowances, support from children’s services, relevant legal orders, sources of educational, parenting and legal support and other issues that may be required.
• Assess vulnerability and risk to prioritise and respond to kinship carers’ issues in a timely manner.
• Research individual cases and identify possible courses of action.
• Address all safeguarding concerns in line with policy.
• Facilitate access to our advice service for people with diverse needs, e.g. by using appropriate translation services or assistive technology.
• Adapt communication style to respond appropriately to differing needs.
• Provide advice in a format that is manageable and understandable for the individual kinship carer.
• Apply agreed Kinship models of practice as appropriate, e.g. taking a trauma-informed approach.
• Provide specialist advice and casework on SEND-related issues. This may involve:
  • providing additional advice or support to enable a client to take action
  • undertaking follow-up action on behalf of the client to move the case on, e.g. negotiating with third parties
  • taking on complex casework to pursue significant outcomes for the client or strategic impact for all kinship carers

• Proactively update colleagues across Kinship on relevant updates in the SEND landscape, providing guidance to teams.

• Work closely with training colleagues to develop, create and occasionally lead training sessions to support kinship carers to navigate the SEND system.

Essential requirements include:

• Minimum of 2 years’ recent experience of delivering in-depth advice work on complex social welfare legal issues (e.g. benefits, housing, education or social care) to members of the public.

• Experience of giving both telephone and written advice.

• Either significant knowledge of and expertise in the SEND system and SEND-related issues, with the ability to develop expertise in kinship care advice; or, Significant knowledge of and expertise in kinship care advice, with substantial knowledge of SEND-related advice issues and the ability to become an expert in SEND advice for kinship carers.

• A demonstrable knowledge of relevant sources of advice and information. 

• Knowledge and evidence of good understanding of safeguarding issues and good practice.

• Proven understanding of the importance of confidentiality and a non-judgmental approach.

• Experience and confidence in development of resources

• Experience of effective management and supervision of staff, projects and/or services.

• Experience using Case Management Systems and/or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms.

With a history stretching back over 800 years, the Hereford Cathedral Almshouses Charity offers its residents a wonderful blend of historic architectural heritage with a true sense of community and belonging. The charity’s objective is “the relief of poverty through the provision of almshouse accommodation” and this has traditionally focussed on providing housing for people on lower incomes. Rooted in gospel values, its Christian ethos has ensured a unique pastoral presence and availability to residents, unlike secular housing provision. However, current trustees also recognise the need to address poverty in its less obvious manifestations such as are related to spiritual, mental and physical health, and see the role of a parish nurse as integral to achieving this. For the right person, there is a unique opportunity to integrate their nursing expertise with their faith, thereby adding a holistic dimension to the charity’s objective not previously contemplated in this way.

OUR VISION FOR THE PARISH NURSING SERVICE

While Herefordshire is a beautiful rural county, this charm hides some serious issues. National measures of poverty tend to focus on large cities, such that the specific challenges of rural or country town life—like high housing costs, transport, difficulty accessing community healthcare provision and social isolation — can often fall under the radar.

Poverty means more than lack of money although this often sits at the heart of other manifestations. Addressing matters of health and access to health and social services can, and should, be understood as another form of poverty alleviation which can have tangible benefits for the elderly, carers and young families on low incomes. Furthermore, poverty in psycho-spiritual care and dignity, particularly related to death and dying are significant issues in our rural setting.

Recognising the needs described above, the Hereford Cathedral Almshouses Charity has embarked on a strategy committed to alleviating such poverty. In an effort to provide groundbreaking pastoral, social and practical support for our communities, the trustees, in conjunction with the Chapter of Hereford Cathedral would like to appoint a Parish Nurse. This would initially be to support the residents of the Almshouses, with the intention, in due course, of expanding the service to those in the wider community, including potential collaboration with other local organisations.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Parish Nurse will play a vital role in helping to achieve holistic pastoral care by supporting and building relationships with the residents of the Almshouses in Hereford and Ledbury, and being appropriately available to support the community associated with Hereford Cathedral which has a growing number of elderly people and young families.

Responsible to the Dean of Hereford and linked with Parish Nursing Ministries UK (PNMUK), the Parish Nurse is to provide nursing support to recipients, regardless of their faith position. This support will integrate spiritual, physical, psychological, emotional and social health to the residents of our Almshouses in Hereford and Ledbury, and the wider cathedral community. Supported by the Steering Group, the Parish Nurse will be accountable to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the Chapter of Hereford Cathedral, the Hereford Cathedral Almshouses Charity, and a spiritual supervisor who will be determined in due course.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Support Holistic Health

• Integrate faith and health through providing a holistic assessment of need
• Support individuals from the Almshouses and Cathedral community in dealing with health issues and concerns, through collaboratively planned health advice, support and spiritual care
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the care provision, adjusting the care plans as required
• Where appropriate, support risk assessments to ensure that health needs are being met
• Where appropriate, develop screening opportunities for residents in the Almshouses and cathedral community
• Where appropriate, attend local meetings with health and social care professionals to ensure continuity of care
• Ensure parish nursing activities and advice are evidence based and supported by current research

Health Education

• Provide and promote appropriate health education to individuals and groups, aiming to increase understanding of health concerns and to empower people to make positive choices to improve their health
• Focus on a variety of educational activities for all ages which can explore the relationship between values, attitudes, lifestyle, faith and health
• Develop opportunities for health education activities in the Almshouses and at community events

Health Advocacy

• Provide an advocacy role that supports people to access health services
• Initiate and support referrals to other health professionals as appropriate

Referrals

• Liaise with appropriate agencies and authorities in order to support the health needs of individuals
• Signpost to health, social care, faith organisations and voluntary sector services as appropriate, to access the most suitable resources for holistic care

Support Groups

• Develop appropriate support groups, following assessment of need of residents of the Almhouses and Cathedral community
• Support the Cathedral Pastor and Pastoral Visiting Team

Integration of Faith and Health

• Integrate faith and health in all activities and contacts, aiming to promote the understanding of the relationship between faith and health
• Pray with or for clients, if requested and appropriate or, if preferred, refer them to a faith group/leader of their choice
• Facilitate or assist with a service of, for example, Holy Communion in their home, as appropriate

Professional Management

• Promote safeguarding of children, young people and adults at risk in all parish nursing activities
• Attend Steering Group meetings and regular one to one meetings with line manager
• Work as an autonomous and lone practitioner, ensuring compliance with the policies and procedures of Hereford Cathedral Chapter, including those related to lone working
• Maintain accurate, systematic and timely record keeping of health interventions in keeping with NMC Record Keeping guidance, ensuring safe storage and disposal of documentation
• Maintain statistical information and data as required by the Almshouses charity, Hereford Cathedral Chapter and PNMUK
• Manage the resources of the parish nursing service, including any financial resources, in line with professional standards
• Participate in an Annual Development and Performance Review with line manager
• Ensure that the Confidentiality and Data Protection Policies of Hereford Cathedral Chapter and the NMC are stringently adhered to
• Maintain the Parish Nurse Accreditation Standards, annually reviewing these with the Regional Nurse Coordinator and line manager
• Record and take appropriate action if any accident or incident occurs involving a volunteer, client, staff member or visitor

Personal Development

• Be aware of, and always act in accordance with, the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and maintain NMC registration
• Work within the scope of professional knowledge and competence
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills, and undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in accordance with the individual parish nurse, and organisational needs
• Ensure personal spiritual care needs are identified and met, and participate in regular spiritual supervision
• Attend PNMUK Community of Practice events for professional development, supervision and peer support

The above-mentioned tasks are a summary of the key responsibilities involved; however, the post holder may be asked to carry out other tasks as directed by the Almshouses Charity trustees/Parish Nurse Steering Group/other authority.

Essential qualities:

• Registered Nurse (Adult/Child/Mental Health/Learning Disability)

Role Overview

During the nine month contract, you’ll be responsible for project-managing the roll-out of our refreshed brand across all channels, event and audiences. We strategically lead on both proactive and reactive media activity engaging with journalists to support WaterAid’s mass engagement campaigns (e.g. campaigning for no mother to give birth without safe water), partnerships (like designing celebrity toilets at Glastonbury, or creating PR campaigns for our Wimbledon Foundation partnership), brand awareness and political influencing.    

About the role

As our Senior Media Officer, your will support the Senior PR manager to deliver the public relations function for WaterAid across digital and traditional media and work closely with the team and other colleagues across our fundraising, partnership and advocacy teams to drive ambitious and sustainable change.  

In this role, you will:

• Develop and deliver innovative integrated, digital-first PR campaigns that achieve impactful national, international, local and digital coverage, to support our fundraising and public engagement activities, build WaterAid’s profile, and align with wider organisational aims   
• Take a project lead on high-profile strategic partnerships to deliver media projects that meet shared objectives and help our partners become influencers in their sector to drive change    
• Work with the Celebrity and Influencer team to develop effective ways to work with high-profile supporters to build awareness of WaterAid and our work  
• Shoot, edit and upload digital content for our digital media outlets including TikTok and YouTube 
• Build and maintain relationships with key journalists and broadcasters including the planning and managing of trips to country programmes with journalists, celebrities or for content gathering  
• Join the 24/7 on-call rota (aprox every 6-8 weeks) and be prepared for travel in the UK and overseas - usually around two weeks per year - as well as some work outside normal office hours, as necessary

Requirements

To be successful, you will need:

• Excellent command of written and verbal English to produce written media work of high quality 

• Proven experience of working in an in-house press office / PR agency or as a journalist 

• Excellent understanding and working knowledge of digital platforms including TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn and Instagram 

• Strong understanding of the UK and global media landscape, with an excellent nose for a story and established relationships with key journalists and media outlets for major UK and global titles. 

• Proven experience of delivering effective and innovative integrated, multi-channel media campaigns with digital media at their core   

• Understanding of how the media can be used as an influencing tool – whether to encourage fundraising and engagement or influence decision makers 

• Ability to forge effective/ strong working relationships within the team and with colleagues from across the organisation

The Events and Training Officer will lead on the planning, coordination and delivery of Clinks’ busy calendar of member engagement activity, including online and in-person events, training sessions, and our flagship annual conference.

Events and Training Programme Coordination 

• Coordinate the delivery of Clinks’ annual programme of events and training, working with colleagues across the organisation to ensure a consistent, high-quality offer. 

• Manage the full event lifecycle, including planning, logistics, speaker and facilitator liaison, registration, delivery support and follow-up. 

• Act as the main point of contact for all events and training enquiries, providing excellent support to members, delegates and partners. 

• Ensure events are delivered in the most cost-effective way, to budget, and in line with Clinks’ internal processes. 

• Support staff across Clinks to deliver events and training sessions, including providing guidance, templates, systems support and coordination.

The Loop delivers high quality, accessible, evidence-based and evidence-making drug checking services and to disseminate harm reduction information to individuals, service providers and policy makers. The Communications Lead will ensure that we are able to extend the reach and understanding of harm reduction related to drugs and alcohol. This post will ensure The Loop expands its profile and presence, capacity and response, to maximise the opportunities to communicate harm reduction messages and information, raises the awareness, access and understanding of drug checking, and engages stakeholders and members of the public.

This will require the postholder to:

- Coordinate and increase the capacity of The Loop to effectively communicate related to our aims and purpose

As we continue to diversify and grow our commercial revenue streams, we are seeking a proactive Commercial Marketing Assistant to support the promotion of key income‑generating initiatives. These include Champing (unique overnight stays in historic churches), filming, venue hire, and an expanding portfolio of leased or licensed properties.
