Job description

Tyne Rivers Trust is looking for a talented and proactive Systems Officer to lead the development and management of our data and digital systems at an exciting time of growth and organisational development.

As a registered environmental charity, we work to improve rivers and their catchments for the benefit of people, wildlife and communities. Following our recent expansion to include Northumberland Rivers catchments, we are strengthening our systems and data infrastructure to support our growing impact across the region.

About the Role

This is a new and influential position at the heart of the organisation. You will oversee and develop Tyne Rivers Trust's data management and digital systems, ensuring they are effective, secure, compliant and fit for purpose.

Working closely with colleagues across the Trust, you will help improve how we capture, manage, analyse and report information, enabling better decision-making and supporting fundraising, project delivery, communications and operational performance.

You will manage and optimise systems including Microsoft 365, CRM databases, reporting tools, document management systems and spatial data systems, while championing best practice in data governance and digital working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation, development and ongoing management of the Trust's data management systems.

  • Ensure data quality, consistency, security and compliance with GDPR and information governance requirements.

  • Act as the organisational lead for data management, system administration and continuous improvement.

  • Manage and optimise Microsoft 365, CRM systems, reporting tools and other digital platforms.

  • Identify opportunities for automation, integration and improved workflows.

  • Develop policies, procedures and guidance relating to data and systems management.

  • Produce reports and insights to support organisational planning, monitoring and evaluation.

  • Provide training, support and advice to colleagues on systems and data processes.

  • Support the management and development of spatial data systems and GIS resources.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical and analytical skills with excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.

You will have:

  • Experience of managing or administering data management and digital systems.

  • Experience implementing or upgrading CRM, database or information management systems.

  • Strong understanding of data management principles and best practice.

  • Knowledge of GDPR, information governance and data protection requirements.

  • Experience supporting colleagues to make effective use of systems and technology.

  • Experience producing accurate reports and analysing data for different audiences.

  • Experience using Microsoft 365 in an organisational setting.

  • Excellent organisational, problem-solving and communication skills.

It would be advantageous if you also have:

  • Experience working in the charity or environmental sector.

  • Knowledge of environmental monitoring and data management.

  • Experience with fundraising databases and reporting systems.

  • Understanding of digital transformation projects.

  • Experience or knowledge of GIS and spatial data management.

Why Join Us?

At Tyne Rivers Trust, you'll be part of a passionate and dedicated team working to create healthier rivers, stronger communities and a more sustainable future.

We offer:

  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.

  • Opportunities for professional development and training.

  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.

  • The chance to make a real impact on the environment across North East England.

This role is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we are strengthening our team and increasing our capacity to protect and restore rivers across the region.
