Job description

About Future Dreams

Future Dreams is a breast cancer charity based in King’s Cross, London. Our mission is that no one should face breast cancer alone or without hope.

We provide a welcoming, expert and compassionate space for people affected by breast cancer, offering practical, emotional and specialist support through one-to-one appointments, workshops, groups, wellbeing services, community engagement and education.

As the charity continues to grow its clinical outreach, community partnerships, education offer and public-facing breast health work, we are looking for an experienced Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist to help extend specialist breast care nursing knowledge beyond the traditional clinical setting.

About the role

This is a varied, outward-facing and highly rewarding role for a confident and experienced Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist who wants to use their clinical expertise in a different way.

You will provide one-to-one support to people affected by breast cancer, deliver clinically credible workshops and education sessions, contribute to community and hospital outreach, and represent Future Dreams at events, conferences, corporate sessions and partner meetings.

This is not a traditional hospital-based CNS post. It is a charity-based role that combines specialist breast care knowledge with education, outreach, public engagement, partnership working and service development. You will work alongside, but not replace, NHS clinical teams, helping people access clear, compassionate and evidence-based information at different points in their breast cancer pathway.

The role would suit someone who is clinically credible, emotionally intelligent, organised, self-motivated and comfortable working across clinical, community, corporate and charity settings.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver one-to-one breast care nurse appointments in person, by telephone and by video call.
  • Provide accurate, up-to-date information and emotional support to people affected by breast cancer.
  • Support people across the breast cancer pathway, including diagnosis, surgery, systemic treatment, radiotherapy, endocrine therapy, reconstruction, recovery, survivorship and secondary breast cancer.
  • Maintain timely, accurate and confidential records in line with NMC standards, data protection requirements and Future Dreams’ clinical governance framework.
  • Design, host and facilitate clinically focused workshops and webinars for service users, supporters, professionals and community audiences.
  • Host breast health masterclasses and awareness sessions for corporate partners and community groups.
  • Support hospital and clinical outreach projects, including work at partner sites.
  • Represent Future Dreams at relevant conferences, professional events and public-facing activities.
  • Prepare and deliver clear, engaging presentations for a range of audiences.
  • Contribute to the development of Future Dreams’ clinical education and training offer.
  • Work closely with fundraising, communications, digital, programmes and operations colleagues to ensure clinical content is accurate, accessible and impactful.
  • Use feedback, service data and outcomes to support continuous improvement and impact reporting.
  • Work within Future Dreams’ safeguarding, risk management, confidentiality and clinical governance frameworks.

About you

We are looking for someone who brings strong specialist breast care knowledge, excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently in a busy and varied charity environment.

You will need to be comfortable moving between one-to-one support, group education, public speaking, professional networking, written content, clinical governance and practical service delivery.

You will be someone who can manage your own workload, follow through on agreed actions, keep clear records, and work collaboratively with colleagues and partners.

Essential experience and qualifications

You will need:

  • Registered Nurse status with current NMC registration.
  • Significant experience in breast oncology, breast surgery or specialist breast care.
  • Experience providing one-to-one clinical consultations or specialist breast care support.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current practice, national guidance and professional issues in breast cancer care.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex clinical information clearly and compassionately.
  • Confidence delivering workshops, presentations or education sessions.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload.
  • Experience working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary or cross-organisational team.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to breast oncology, surgery or cancer care.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality, inclusion and compassionate support.

Desirable experience

It would be helpful, but not essential, if you also have:

  • Experience working in or with the charity, voluntary or community sector.
  • Experience delivering education or training to professionals or the public.
  • Teaching, mentorship or education qualification.
  • Experience of community outreach, public health engagement or working with under-served communities.
  • Experience representing a service at conferences, exhibitions or public-facing events.
  • Experience using CRM, case management or digital event platforms.
  • Confidence engaging with media, corporate partners, donors or external stakeholders on clinical topics.

Personal qualities

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Empathetic, calm and resilient.
  • Clinically credible and professionally grounded.
  • Clear, warm and confident in communication.
  • Highly organised and able to work without close day-to-day supervision.
  • Collaborative and comfortable working across teams.
  • Adaptable, practical and willing to support a growing charity.
  • Passionate about breast health advocacy and improving support for people affected by breast cancer.
  • Able to balance compassion with appropriate professional boundaries.

Why join Future Dreams?

This is an opportunity to use your specialist breast care nursing expertise in a broad, meaningful and creative way.

You will be part of a charity that combines clinical credibility with warmth, community and hope. You will help people affected by breast cancer access trusted information and support, while also contributing to wider education, outreach and service development.

For the right person, this role offers the chance to make a visible difference, shape growing areas of work, and help extend the reach of specialist breast care nursing beyond the hospital setting.
