To make this happen, we're dedicated to being an inclusive, proactive organisation, as we strive to be Allies to Black communities. We’ll achieve this by advocating and working alongside those communities to promote change. We're also working to be Allies to each other, not only protected groups. In 2024, we launched our New Allyship Training Programme. All colleagues at Prostate Cancer UK will be trained to act and identify as an Ally.

The Sutton Trust is the UK’s leading social mobility charity. Our programmes help young people from less advantaged backgrounds access highly competitive universities, apprenticeships and careers and our research shapes national policy. Each year, working with our university and employer partners, we support thousands of young people through our programmes and continue that support through our alumni community.
Sutton Trust Online was developed to extend that support digitally. It now complements our university, apprenticeship and career access programmes through online guidance, resources, events, tools and progression support.
As the Trust approaches its 30th anniversary, we want to build on this foundation and think carefully about the next stage of our digital programming: how we make the student experience more coherent, how digital support connects with our wider programmes and how we use data, AI and external partners responsibly to improve guidance over time.
Over the next two years, the Digital Platform Architect will help us define and deliver that next stage. The role will sit between the Trust’s programme ambitions and the technical partners who help support them, bringing the product judgement, technical literacy and delivery grip we need to make informed decisions about digital development, AI, data, systems and student experience.
This is not a traditional programme management role and it is not a hands-on engineering role. You do not need to be a full-stack developer but you will need the confidence to work with engineers, UX specialists, AI partners and suppliers and the ability to turn complex programme ideas into practical product decisions.
This is a chance to shape student-facing digital programming used by thousands of young people each year at a point when AI is changing how students access guidance, information and opportunity. Help us build something ambitious, responsible and genuinely useful: digital support that extends the reach of a 30-year social mobility mission and helps young people navigate key progression points with clearer, more personalised guidance.
What you’ll help deliver
By the end of the two-year period, we expect this role to have helped the Trust develop:

💡 About the Role
You’ll join our cross-functional team to build and improve the digital platforms that teachers and pupils rely on every day. Working closely with product managers, software engineers, designers, researchers, and curriculum specialists to ensure our products are high-quality, reliable, and user-friendly.
This is a hands-on role focused on validating features from a user perspective, refining definitions through a QA lens, and exploratory testing across our digital platforms. You'll also help champion a culture of quality and contribute to Oak’s values and wider success.
🔧 What You’ll Be Doing
Validating product behaviour of new features from a user perspective and improving feature definitions by providing a QA perspective.
Communicating and promoting quality as a culture across the engineering, design and product functions.
Exploratory testing of user-facing web apps and internal content creation and management tools.
As a member of the Oak Team, you will contribute to the wider success and culture of the organisation.
Work in cross-functional and product-oriented squads with colleagues from across the organisation, as required.
Support all work across the Product team and take on other general responsibilities as required.
🌱 What We’re Looking For
Knowledge of testing web or mobile-based applications, including exploratory testing, triaging bug reports, identifying common threads in multiple bug reports, and creating well-structured bug reports with appropriate evidence and steps to reproduce.
An understanding of accessibility concerns for web applications and how to assess them.
The ability to design tests and work without test scripts or formal specifications.
Familiarity with agile processes such as user stories, acceptance criteria and working in sprints with colleagues from other teams.
The successful candidate will have a desire to contribute across all areas to ensure Oak's success. You will be comfortable moving quickly and with agility, and be confident working with a range of digital systems (including proprietary ones, as required). You will continually look for ways that the team can keep getting better. You will be excellent at working as part of a remote team, building relationships and managing your time effectively.
💛 Our Benefits
25 days annual leave, plus one extra day for each year of service (up to 28)
Additional Oak closure days over Christmas/New Year
11% employer pension contribution (with no minimum employee contribution)
A 36-hour working week, with half-days on Fridays or every other Friday off
Fully remote working — we’ll support your home set-up and offer coworking options if preferred
Twice-yearly in-person offsites to collaborate, connect, and have fun
A culture that genuinely supports flexibility, autonomy, and trust
🌈 Inclusion and Belonging
We believe diverse teams build better products. We warmly welcome applicants from all backgrounds, particularly those who are underrepresented in the tech and education sectors.
If you're from an underrepresented group, there's a good chance you're discounting yourself before you've even started. That's more common than you'd think, and it means we may miss out on brilliant people. If you're excited by this role but don't meet every requirement, please apply anyway.
We use the Applied platform to help reduce bias in our hiring process. Answers are anonymised and reviewed by a panel of humans.

Next steps
You’ll answer a few admin questions and some about your day-to-day job. Your answers will go through our sift process: all answers will be anonymised, randomised, and then reviewed by a panel of reviewers (real humans), so it's your thinking that gets assessed, not your CV.
If you're shortlisted, we'll invite you to interview. We give everyone feedback at the end of the process.
We love giving feedback, so at the end of the application process, we'll share how well you performed.
