Context
This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in a pioneering programme that could reshape how kinship families are supported across England.
Kinship is undertaking a pilot Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) of Kinship Connected, a Kinship Navigator programme designed to provide intensive, specialist support to kinship carers and help them navigate complex systems.
This is a multi-partner programme involving funders, independent evaluators, participating local authorities, internal delivery teams and kinship carers with lived experience.
Kinship Navigators are at the heart of delivery. You will work directly with kinship carers in the community and in their homes, providing intensive 1-to-1 support and facilitating local support groups, while working closely with local authority partners and other services.
Because the programme forms part of a pilot RCT, maintaining high-quality case records and accurate data collection is critical. Your work will contribute directly to the evidence base about what works for kinship families.
Each Navigator will support around 40 kinship carers over the delivery year, holding a caseload of approximately 20 families at any one time.
You will be part of a wider delivery team including the Programmes Manager, Mobilisation and Delivery Project Manager, research colleagues and other Kinship teams, working together to ensure the programme is delivered ethically, consistently and to a high standard
About the role:
The Kinship Navigator provides intensive, time-limited support to kinship carers through the Kinship Connected programme, a structured six-month intervention designed to help kinship families stabilise placements and access the support they need.
Working directly with kinship carers, you will build trusting relationships while completing structured assessments, goal setting and reviews to help families strengthen support networks and navigate services such as children’s social care, education, health and community support.
This is a community-facing role, working directly with kinship carers in homes, community spaces and through co-location with local authority teams and partner organisations.
The role requires a combination of high-quality relational practice and disciplined case recording. As part of the pilot RCT, accurate documentation of activity, progress and outcomes is essential to ensure the programme can be evaluated and improved.
You will work closely with the Programmes Manager, delivery team, researchers and local authority partners to ensure the programme is delivered consistently, ethically and to a high standard, with a strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in supporting kinship families from all backgrounds.

About School of Hard Knocks
School of Hard Knocks (SOHK) is one of the UK’s leading education charities, working in 29 secondary schools across England, Scotland, and Wales. Using rugby as a key delivery tool, we support young people who are struggling to engage in early secondary education - often because of anxiety, low confidence, disrupted home lives, or behavioural challenges rooted in trauma. For many of the children we support, life has already brought more hardship than most adults experience in a lifetime. Our purpose is clear: to help young people facing complex challenges break the cycle and move towards a safer, stronger, more hopeful future.
The SOHK Schools Programme is a two-year intervention working with cohorts of around 20 pupils from Year 7 through to Year 9. Pupils are selected by the school and are typically among the hardest to reach young people. Each week, we deliver half a day of rugby training and classroom sessions built around our 3Cs framework, covering topics such as growth mindset, goal setting, and decision-making, alongside monthly one-to-one sessions with every pupil. The programme’s impact is evaluated by SOHK staff, teachers, parents, and the pupils themselves.
90% of our participants report feeling more confident and more engaged with school after taking part, with long-term effects on attendance, attainment, and life outcomes. Find out more about our Schools Programme.
Since 2023, SOHK has been proud to partner with Impetus, a charity that invests in and supports organisations helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds succeed. This partnership combines investment with strategic and organisational development support, helping to strengthen our impact and set SOHK up for sustainable growth.
We are proud to be delivering long-term programmes that meaningfully reach hundreds of young people each year - but the societal need is vast. Our ambitious four-year strategic plan targets growth, aiming to bring our impactful programme to hundreds more young people each year.
“Despite the usual challenges that every education or sport for development charity faces, School of Hard Knocks really is unique. It is not so much what we deliver at a programme level (which is of course brilliant) but who we are as a team. If you are a values-led leader and love the idea of ‘team’, then School of Hard Knocks is the place for you.”
- Ken Cowen, Founder and outgoing CEO

Looking for a rewarding role where you can make a difference? Do you have the drive to create positive change in children’s lives and inspire others to do the same?
If the answer is yes, then read on to hear about this exciting opportunity.
We’re Railway Children, an international charity working to create long-lasting change for street-connected children and young people in the UK, India and Tanzania. Founded in 1996, we’ve dedicated over a quarter of a century to developing outstanding practice and services for vulnerable children and their families. As part of our current strategy to 2027, we have ambitious plans to ensure no child is left behind, wherever we work.
The role
We are looking to recruit a Youth Outreach and Community Worker in London as part of our UK Programme.
This role requires close working with partners, engaging and safeguarding young people in and around Waterloo Station, helping to identify and safeguard young people at risk of criminal and sexual exploitation, county lines, missing from home, homelessness or family breakdown. This role involves working regular unsociable hours including evenings and weekends.
You will be working closely alongside key partners such as British Transport Police, security staff, Train Operators, Youth Services and other local stakeholders.
You’ll play a key role in the development of our UK Safeguarding on Transport Programme and part of a dynamic team delivering Railway Children’s safeguarding programme in the UK.
About you
We are looking for someone who brings experience of successfully engaging and supporting young people as well as experience of working in an outreach or similar community setting, in a creative and engaging way with young people with a range of needs and vulnerabilities.

Therefore, you will be an experienced practitioner with an excellent understanding of safeguarding processes and procedures, who is able to work creatively, independently and within professional boundaries.

Ready to take the next step into housing management? This could be the perfect next step if you're already working in supported housing and are ready to develop your leadership skills while remaining hands-on with supporting residents.
Make a real difference, every day
At TACT, you'll manage our recovery-focused supported housing service, supporting adults affected by addiction and mental health difficulties. We provide safe accommodation alongside housing-related support, helping people sustain their tenancy, build independence and move forward in recovery. Residents live independently within shared accommodation, supported to achieve their recovery goals rather than receiving day-to-day personal care. We're experts by experience — we understand when others don't. Our work is challenging, rewarding and occasionally chaotic. You'll need resilience, authenticity and a sense of humour, with the ability to build genuine relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
About the role
You'll manage 17 supported housing places across five shared properties in Telford, leading a small team delivering high quality housing management and trauma-informed support. This is a hands-on role!
Alongside managing properties, referrals, occupancy, Housing Benefit and partnerships, you'll supervise and develop your team, providing practical guidance on everything from day-to-day housing issues to safeguarding, risk management and complex resident situations.
Working alongside Y Housing as our Registered Provider of Social Housing, you'll help ensure our homes remain safe, compliant and recovery-focused. We're looking for someone with experience in supported housing, homelessness or housing-related support who is ready to make a real difference.
Whether you're already managing a supported housing service or looking to take your next step into management, you'll have the opportunity to shape a service, support a great team and help people rebuild their lives.
Your key responsibilities will include
• Managing the day-to-day operation of TACT's supported housing service
• Leading, supervising and developing a team of Housing Workers and volunteers
• Overseeing referrals, assessments, sign-ups, move on, warnings and notices
• Supporting residents to sustain tenancies, maximise income and achieve recovery goals
• Managing occupancy, voids, rent accounts, compliance and property standards
• Responding to safeguarding concerns, incidents and complex resident situations
• Working closely with Y Housing, local authorities, treatment providers and partner agencies
• Producing reports, performance information and service data to support continuous improvement
If you have these essential skills:
• Experience of supported housing, housing-related support, tenancy sustainment or supported accommodation services
• Experience supporting adults affected by addiction, mental health difficulties or other complex social needs
• Relevant Level 4 Housing qualification (or you’re willing and able to start this by October 2026)
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, risk management and professional boundaries
Ability to remain calm, resilient and professional when managing challenging situations
• Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills
• Ability to build genuine, trusting relationships whilst maintaining accountability and boundaries
• Good IT skills and experience maintaining accurate records
• Full UK driving licence and access to your own transport
• Willingness to participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota
we'd love to hear from you. You don't need to tick every box. If you think you have the right values, skills and experience, we'd encourage you to apply.
We'd love it you also have:
• Relevant lived experience of addiction recovery, mental health difficulties or other complex social needs
• Experience supervising, coordinating or line managing staff, volunteers or placements
• Other housing, health and social care or similar qualifications or training
• Leadership, management or coaching qualifications
• Knowledge of peer support, recovery communities or the voluntary sector
What we offer
• Enhanced annual leave entitlement and family friendly policies
• Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
• A discount scheme for shopping, days out and essentials
**Please ensure your cover letter addresses the following - applications which do not address this won't be considered**
As Recovery Housing Manager, you will inherit a newly recruited but experienced team alongside an established group of residents. What would your priorities be during your first three months, how would you structure the team and review the service? Please consider housing management and compliance, property standards, consistency of practice, and the importance of maintaining stability for residents in recovery to minimise relapse.
We are experts by experience, providing an open door for support with addiction recovery and mental wellbeing.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
