- Work alongside volunteers and peers – model strong practice and support a consistent culture of dignity and hospitality.
- Record clearly and consistently – ensure all contact, decisions, and pathways are accurately recorded to support continuity and learning.

However, we want to assure everyone that we encourage applications from all individuals, regardless of whether they fulfil every point in the job description. Your unique perspective matters to us – please apply with confidence.

Right now, Gaza is one of the hardest places in the world to be a child. As of July 2026, UNICEF reported that more than 21,000 children had been killed and around 44,500 injured since October 2023. Over 58,000 have lost one or both parents or primary caregivers, while around 700,000 have missed almost three years of formal education.
Established in 2024, Children Not Numbers (CNN) is a medico-legal charity committed to the health, safety, education and rehabilitation of Gaza’s children. Working alongside colleagues in Gaza and more than 100 volunteers worldwide, including surgeons, medics and lawyers, the charity provides medical care, medical evacuations, education, psychological support and international advocacy. Within its first year, CNN evacuated more than 300 children and their companions, supported over 650 children through its multidisciplinary clinical team, delivered maternal healthcare to more than 600 women, educated over 350 pupils through its primary school, provided holistic care for 71 orphans and distributed more than 1,000 food aid baskets.
Reporting to a Co-Founder and Director, the Senior Communications Manager will lead Children Not Numbers’ social media strategy and day-to-day digital communications, using ethical storytelling to grow audiences, strengthen supporter engagement and help drive fundraising. Building on the charity’s established communications strategy, the postholder will also support website content, campaigns and brand development, working closely with colleagues in Gaza, the fundraising team and external creative partners to ensure the charity’s work is communicated with accuracy, sensitivity and dignity.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to help shape the next phase of Children Not Numbers’ growth, bringing fresh ideas, creativity and strategic thinking to a charity where communications plays a central role in fundraising and advocacy. With a collaborative ‘yes’ culture, the freedom to think differently and the autonomy to turn ideas into action, the successful candidate will have real influence over campaigns and storytelling.
As Senior Communications Manager you will:
- Lead Children Not Numbers’ social media strategy and day-to-day digital communications, creating compelling, ethical content that grows audiences, strengthens supporter engagement and helps drive fundraising
- Line manage the Marketing & Communications Officer and Gaza-based Video Journalist, while overseeing relationships with external creative and PR partners
- Work closely with colleagues in Gaza, the fundraising team and senior leaders to develop content and campaigns that communicate the charity’s work with accuracy, sensitivity and dignity
- Support digital content creation across the charity’s website, working with an external website agency, supporting the development of campaign landing pages and ensuring consistency of messaging and brand
- Create and/or review written content, including thought leadership pieces, fundraising materials, impact reports and organisational publications
- Monitor performance and emerging opportunities, using insight and creativity to continually strengthen the charity’s communications and digital presence
About you

Essential skills and experience:
- Experience developing and/or implementing social media strategy within a charity or NGO settings
- Track record of creating engaging digital content and using ethical storytelling to build audiences and strengthen supporter engagement
- Strong understanding of the role communications and social media play in successful fundraising, with experience developing and delivering integrated digital campaigns that support fundraising, advocacy or wider organisational objectives
- Experience managing people, or demonstrating equivalent leadership experience, with the ability to motivate, develop and support others
- Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to tone, accuracy and detail
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, digital trends, audience engagement and analytics, with experience using insight and data to inform strategy and optimise performance
- A confident, collaborative leader, with the ability to work at pace, respond to changing priorities and make sound judgements under pressure
- An understanding of, or genuine interest in, the Gaza and broader Palestine context, humanitarian issues, and the importance of ethical storytelling
- Strong content creation and visual design skills, including experience using Canva or similar design tools
Desirable:
- Experience in the humanitarian or international development sector
- Experience working with photographers, videographers or content creators in international or complex operating environments
- Experience of influencer engagement, partnership development or community-building campaigns
- Knowledge of Google Analytics, Buffer (or similar social media management platforms), SEO and digital performance reporting

• Manage performance and conduct fairly and consistently, with appropriate HR support.
2. Quality, Compliance and Safeguarding

• Monitor care quality through ECM data, visit records, staff feedback and regular engagement with service users and their families, remaining closely connected to the day-to-day service delivery to identify and address emerging issues before they escalate.
• Ensure care and support delivery across all services remains within the scope of relevant contractual and funding arrangements, and that any changes to the service scope, volume or specification are identified and escalated appropriately.
3. Care Planning and Service User Relationships
• Ensure every service user has a current, person-centred care plan that reflects their needs, preferences and risks.
• Oversee and contribute to care assessments and reviews, including involvement in complex cases, multi-agency reviews and situations where a senior presence is needed.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with service users, their families, and carers, being accessible, responsive, and honest whether managing concerns or recognising success.
• Ensure that the service user experience and what it actually feels like to be supported by our service is at the centre of how quality is assessed, monitored and improved.
4. Safe Recruitment, Staffing and Workforce
• Ensure all staff are recruited safely and in line with statutory and regulatory requirements, with appropriate DBS checks, references, right-to-work verification, and safer recruitment processes completed before delivering regulated care.
• Manage all aspects of the Skilled Worker visa sponsorship process, including sponsorship applications, compliance monitoring, record keeping, and reporting requirements in line with Home Office regulations.
• Lead on workforce development, identifying training needs, commissioning training, maintaining records, and ensuring all staff are competent for the care they deliver.
• Ensure a regular and effective programme of one-to-one meetings, supervision, probation reviews and annual appraisals is maintained across the service, addressing performance, development, wellbeing, and any concerns in a timely manner.
• Support, and where appropriate, lead HR processes, including investigations, disciplinary, performance management, grievance, and absence management meetings, working closely with HR to ensure a fair, consistent and legally compliant approach.
• Ensure the on-call and lone working frameworks are in place, understood by all staff and working in practice.
• Participate in the senior management on-call rota, providing advice, support and decision making in response to serious incidents, safeguarding concerns, deaths, and any other urgent operational matters requiring immediate senior attention.
• Participation in a shared on-call rota, including evenings/over-night and weekends, and bank holidays where scheduled.
5. Working with Senior Leadership
• Work closely with the Head of Operations (Deputy CEO) reporting on service performance, escalating concerns, contributing to strategic decisions, and supporting the organisation's broader development.
• Contribute to commissioner relationships and contract management, including monitoring reporting, quality submissions and attendance at review meetings.
• Play an active part in shaping how the service develops, bringing operational knowledge and professional judgement to decisions about what the service does, how it is structured and where it grows.

At Hestia, we are guided by our core values and are dedicated to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive organisation. Our mission is to empower individuals to rebuild their lives and achieve independence. Right now, we are looking for a Children and Families Worker to play a pivotal role in our Domestic Abuse Service in Tower Hamlets.
Sounds great, what will I be doing?
The role focuses on building positive and supportive relationships with women and their children, empowering them to work towards their goals through a strengths-based approach. This includes creating, implementing, and reviewing personalised support plans in collaboration with service users and external agencies, while also advocating on their behalf when needed. Key responsibilities involve assisting mothers with parenting skills, signposting them to appropriate services, and offering targeted support to families facing issues such as domestic abuse. Ensuring the safeguarding of children and maintaining confidentiality at all times are central to the role, alongside working within relevant policies and procedures.
Additionally, the position emphasises the importance of children's development and wellbeing by providing educational, recreational, and interactive play opportunities both during term time and holidays. Service users and children are encouraged to actively participate in shaping projects through consultations, feedback, and creative engagement. The role also involves promoting community involvement by networking, fundraising, and collaborating with statutory and voluntary organisations. Ultimately, the work contributes towards the five key outcome areas: being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution, and achieving economic wellbeing.
What do I need to bring with me?
You'll need to be able to demonstrate the core skills this role requires as well as match our values and mission. You don't have to tick all the boxes right away; the important thing is that you're willing to learn. We also value lived experience of the areas we support, so if you feel comfortable, please do mention this on your application.
Here's what the team will be looking for
This role is restricted to female applicants under Schedule 9 (1a) of the Equality Act 2010 due to the nature of the work.
It requires someone who can bring optimism, resilience, and a non-judgemental, anti-discriminatory approach when supporting women and children. A calm manner, empathy, and compassion are essential, particularly when working with service users who have experienced trauma or domestic abuse. The role demands the ability to engage directly with families in a supportive, constructive way, while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
In addition, the post holder must be skilled in partnership working with statutory, voluntary, and community agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for families. Strong problem-solving abilities, accuracy in processing and sharing sensitive information, and a clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities are vital. The role also requires flexibility to travel between service premises and to accompany clients when necessary. Success in this position relies on being able to manage responsibilities effectively within a structured and often pressured environment, while always keeping the wellbeing and empowerment of families at the centre of practice.
