Head of Finance

The Head of Finance will lead the day-to-day finance function, ensuring our financial information is accurate, timely and useful. The role will oversee financial reporting, controls, compliance, payroll, budgeting and forecasting, while managing and developing the finance team. The postholder will work closely with budget holders and senior leaders to support good financial decision-making across the organisation. The role will also provide oversight of key operational areas, including premises, health and safety, equipment and outsourced technology support.

In the first 6–12 months, the postholder will be expected to strengthen monthly reporting, improve budget holder support, maintain clear financial controls, support the annual audit and help embed effective finance processes across the organisation.

Financial responsibilities

· Ensure that all financial data is accurately recorded, maintained and reported in accordance with relevant accounting standards and guidelines

· Ensure compliance with relevant financial, tax and statutory obligations, including VAT, PAYE and other reporting requirements

· Lead financial business partnering across the organisation, ensuring budget holders have the knowledge, skills and tools to manage their budgets effectively. This will include:

• • Running effective budgeting and forecasting processes to ensure the organisation has a robust plan
  • Producing monthly management accounts with useful variance analysis to ensure proper financial management

· Alongside the Director of Finance, develop and maintain financial controls to safeguard the charity’s assets, ensuring clear processes are in place and control checks are documented

· Take full management responsibility for the finance team, lead, motivate and develop them to ensure that they are focused, competent and working effectively and efficiently

· Maintain clear review and approval processes so that financial work is properly checked, authorised and documented

· Oversee finance processes for the trading subsidiary, including reviewing postings, accounts and consolidation entries

· Produce or review monthly payroll amounts and postings

· Lead preparation for the annual audit and statutory accounts, ensuring working papers, reconciliations and supporting evidence are complete and accurate

· Ensure restricted funds, grants and project income are recorded, monitored and reported accurately

Operations

· Ensure premises and properties are managed appropriately on a day-to-day basis

· Ensure we comply with H&S standards in our multiple offices

· Ensure the organisation has the resources it needs to do their job through the procurement/ provision of laptops and other equipment

Essential

A demonstrable interest and commitment to working with, and supporting people from, a refugee background

Financial and Operational Responsibilities

Strong management accounting experience, including business partnering with budget holders to support good decision-making

Good understanding of UK charity accounting, including charity SORP, audit and year-end reporting

Professional accounting qualification or substantial relevant accounting experience

Management experience and ability to support and develop line reports in a welcoming and inclusive environment 

Understanding of key compliance areas relevant to charity finance and operations, including VAT, Gift Aid, PAYE, P11D and GDPR

Good understanding of charity controls and risk management

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, strong experience using finance systems (we currently use Xledger) and an interest in AI

Experience of charity fund accounting, including restricted funds and grant reporting

Experience of managing/supporting in the management of outsourced technology providers

As Development Officer (Income Maximisation in Schools) you will play a lead role in looking at the actions needed at different levels to sustainably embed advice in schools across Scotland. The service provides low, medium, and high level support to women who have experienced homelessness, criminal justice history, substance use, mental health, and domestic abuse. You will do this through various support plans and interventions, running and participation of activities, and working alongside various internal and external partners.

We are now recruiting for a Programme Coordinator for our schools in Birmingham.

• The Birmingham Programme Coordinator (maternity cover) oversees a caseload of up to seven partner schools. They manage the logistics and organisation of each school’s tutoring programme, working closely with the schools and pupils and managing the pool of volunteer tutors. They attend the weekly tutoring sessions at each school, as well as overseeing the quality of face to face and online tutoring, always working to deliver a great impact.

Duties and responsibilities
 

• Responsible for the delivery of Action Tutoring’s tutoring programmes in partner schools, whether online or face to face. Reporting regularly on key performance indicators to key stakeholders and using them to enhance programme delivery. Work with the Programme Manager on business development, approaching new schools that might be interested in working with Action Tutoring.

ROLE OVERVIEW

This is an administrative and coordination role, helping individuals and families to access appropriate guidance from the Centre’s qualified religious advisors. The postholder will manage appointments, maintain case records, and ensure the smooth operation of our community-facing services.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

· Conduct initial meetings with individuals and families to evaluate their needs and direct them to the appropriate internal service.

·  Provide information and support.

·  Liaise with religious advisors and consultants to coordinate case referrals.

·  Provide all admin and secretarial work for Manchester Shariah Council.

· Maintain accurate records and manage bookings for all consultants and Manchester Shariah Council members.

·  Plan, manage, organise and oversee all social and Shariah services and activities on a day to day basis.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

Active listening: This entails listening, paying attention to and recording what clients tell you while demonstrating this through appropriate body language and responses.

Boundary setting: The nature of the work means it is easy to get emotionally involved in certain cases. Setting boundaries ensures that professional lines are not crossed and keeps you focused on the end goal.

Sound judgment and ability to refer cases appropriately.

Communication: The job entails communication with a variety of people in a number of different ways, either by talking to clients face-to-face or over the phone, presenting cases to consultants, or making written referrals. All communication must be clear and articulate in order to be understood.

Ability to work with individuals from a variety of cultural and social background.

Proficiency in using IT systems to manage casework and correspondence.

Excellent organisational and time management skills.

Ability to remain resilient and maintain professional boundaries in sensitive situations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

·A Diploma/Degree in Shariah Law.

· Previous working experience in Shariah Law related fields and/or Shariah Courts in Muslim countries.

· Familiarity with UK Law and/or Common Law, safeguarding frameworks and community structures to ensure the procdures are in compliance with UK legal framework.

· Experience working with families, women and children in a culturally sensitive setting.

·Fluent in English (essential).

This involves welcoming new groups to our network and supporting existing ones to develop.

Working closely with colleagues, volunteer consultants and partners, you'll help deliver projects and programmes that strengthens and develops them and creates positive outcomes for people and communities. The Role

Reporting into the Operations Manager - Responsive Repairs, you'll oversee the technical management and contract performance of Healthy Homes and damp & mould cases from initial diagnosis through to completion.

You'll ensure works are delivered safely, to a high standard and within regulatory timescales, whilst driving contractor performance, customer satisfaction and value for money.

This is a varied role combining technical surveying, contract management, compliance oversight and customer-focused service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the end-to-end delivery of Healthy Homes and damp & mould repair cases.
• Ensure cases are investigated and managed in line with Awaab's Law requirements and regulatory timescales.
• Diagnose building defects, identify root causes and specify appropriate remedial works.
• Undertake pre- and post-inspections to ensure quality, compliance and health & safety standards are met.
• Prepare repair specifications and issue works orders within agreed budgets.
• Monitor contractor performance, KPIs and service delivery standards.
• Attend monthly contract performance meetings and drive continuous improvement.
• Maintain accurate records across repairs and asset management systems.
• Provide technical surveying advice to colleagues on responsive repairs and disrepair matters.
• Build strong relationships with contractors, local authorities and internal stakeholders.

About You

We have a vacancy for a Mental Health Support Administrator to join our team.

As a Mental Health Support Administrator, you will be responsible for ensuring a smooth process for people contacting Hertfordshire Mind Network (HMN) from initial contact to service provision and provide advice, information and emotional support to service users.

About Us

Hertfordshire Mind Network is the largest charitable provider of mental health services in Hertfordshire, in terms of the number of people supported and range of services offered. We have a presence in all of the county's 10 districts, with established Wellbeing Centres across the county. Our services are available to all residents in Hertfordshire over the age of 18, and we offer dedicated services and outreach for 5-18-year-olds. We provide services and support to approximately 10,000 people experiencing mental ill health each year.

Key responsibilities

• To be the first point of contact and provide advice and information to HMN callers via telephone, email and in person
• To provide emotional support to people contacting HMN by telephone or in person who are experiencing emotional distress and to ensure smooth referrals into the Daylight service for clients who are in crisis and require short-term crisis resolution
• To complete and process referral forms, liaising with Service Users and colleagues
• To accurately record client information onto the database.
• To support the smooth running of the Wellbeing Centres
• To undertake admin duties for the Wellbeing Centre, including the distribution of mail, maintaining office supplies, and responding to internal/external e-mails
• To ensure the reception area is tidy and leaflet displays are replenished to include up to date information
• To maintain the notice boards with relevant and up to date information

The successful candidate will have knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, excellent interpersonal skills to include a welcoming telephone manner, the ability to remain calm in crisis situations with clients and will be able to prioritise work with minimum supervision, meet deadlines and work simultaneously on a variety of tasks.
