Job description

About The Glasshouse

The Glasshouse is the UK’s only not-for-profit plant installation and maintenance provider: a distinctive social enterprise where exceptional planting creates meaningful employment and measurable impact. They design, install and care for beautiful, nature-filled spaces for organisations across London, while opening up practical, paid pathways for women in custody or recently released from prison. Clients choose The Glasshouse because the planting is thoughtful, design-led and expertly maintained — and because every contract helps create second chances.

Why this opportunity has arisen

The Glasshouse is at an exciting stage. They have a distinctive business, a strong social purpose, an established client base and a service that people genuinely value. They now want to build on that foundation. The Glasshouse has plans to grow over the next few years in a sustainable way and this new role will drive commercial growth and develop a more effective sales engine.

With a new Chief Executive also being appointed, you’ll have support from them, the wider team, and the Founder, particularly around the creative and design side of the work.

You will need to be confident managing the day-to-day commercial process and in this role you will have the opportunity to make a visible difference to how the business operates: improving sales systems, strengthening customer relationships, winning new business and helping the organisation to grow. Unlike a conventional sales role, the success you help create has a purpose beyond the bottom line.

 What we are looking for:

We’re looking for someone smart, capable and enthusiastic about making a small business work better.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Highly organised and reliable – able to manage multiple opportunities, maintain attention to detail and ensure deadlines are met.

  • Commercially minded – understands customers, budgets and pricing, identifies opportunities and enjoys winning business in a consultative way.

  • A strong communicator and writer – able to build confidence with clients and develop clear, persuasive proposals.

  • Tech-savvy – comfortable using CRM systems and enthusiastic about technology, automation and AI to improve efficiency.

  • Self-motivated and practical – works independently, takes initiative and thrives in a varied, hands-on environment.

  • Customer-focused and curious – keen to understand customer needs, motivations and how to deliver an excellent experience.

  • Proactive in business development – confident identifying prospects, building networks, securing introductions and creating opportunities.

  • Values-driven – motivated by social impact, aligned with The Glasshouse’s mission and committed to delivering sustainable commercial and social outcomes.
