The Vacancy

This is an exciting opportunity within the newly formed Centralised functions at NCB supporting the Project Support, Events or Business Support teams.

The post holders will support the organisation’s portfolio of projects and/or complex learning event delivery of online and in-person workshops and conferences for the team they are working in, working closely with peers to provide coherent, consistent support to delivery teams. They will ensure that projects and events are well managed and delivered in line with internal processes and systems whilst balancing business needs achieving contracted requirements and targets.

The post holders will act as peripatetic support across projects, events and the wider business to deliver business objectives, including the administration of contracting processes, event hosting and logistics and business support administration as necessary.

This will include oversight and management of people, tasks and activities according to business need, and supporting teams and directorates.

Knowledge of budget management, risk mitigation and financial acumen is necessary to ensure efficient and sustainable operations.

The post holders will also work closely together drive a culture of continuous improvement informed by systems and data to optimise processes, enhance customer experience and improve delivery performance over time.

The Role
This substantive role within a high performing small team , will support the delivery of high-quality grant-making activity across the organisation. It will play a key role in assessing grants and transactions, managing sensitive donor interactions, and ensuring due diligence and compliance with UK charity law and regulatory requirements is adhered to at all times. This is very much a process and systems driven role where the mechanics of the grant making cycle are operated and monitored closely, and attention to detail and accuracy are core to its success.

The Person
The successful candidate will be an experienced and detail experienced grants system professional with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. They will be comfortable working with complex information, able to clearly identify risk, and practiced in making sound, evidence-based decisions and business cases.

This person will communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing, and will be confident managing sensitive and confidential  conversations with donors and their advisors. Highly organised, fast paced and able to prioritise effectively, this person will be able to manage a varied and busy workload spanning both operational delivery and longer-term strategic projects.

This person will have strong understanding of charity law and the UK regulatory frameworks, and will be confident using IT systems to manage data and processes. Experience with CRM platforms, particularly Salesforce will be very useful, though a willingness to learn is equally important.

Experience in donor-advised funds, philanthropic advice, wealth management structures, and/or working with UHNW individuals and Foundations would be very advantageous, as would exposure to international grant-making or funding policy development work. Comfortable working in a corporate style environment will be important and having a genuine commitment to the organisation’s philanthropic mission will be essential.

You’ll provide a personalised service that enables appropriate levels of self-advocacy and/ or advocate on behalf of clients, signposting to other services as relevant. 

You’ll empower people affected by Parkinson’s, their families and carers to live lives that are as fulfilling as possible and to take an active role in their treatment becoming their own advocate in health and life, wherever possible. 

This role is a fixed term role for 12 months due to needing maternity cover.

What you’ll do:

• Provide in depth, person-centred information and guidance to clients by a range of means, including community settings, and ensuring the most efficient and effective use of resources in line with service policy

• Recognise and respond to potential safeguarding situations using established procedures

• Provide information on a variety of health and social care issues, including appropriate emotional support, employment and welfare benefits guidance and advocating with and on behalf of clients

• Maintain relationships and partnerships with internal and external teams and in a range of settings and ways to achieve the best outcomes of clients

• Keep up to date with organisational and professional development relevant to your role

What you’ll bring:

• Background and/or current experience in health and social care

• Experience of supporting and empowering people with problem solving, navigating the health and social care system and participating in their own care 

• Experience managing a complex caseload effectively and efficiently 

• Ability to be calm and deal effectively with challenging or emotional situations and/or people

• Demonstrable digital competence, with experience of effective use of a range of tools including online case management systems or similar 

• In depth understanding of Parkinson’s, relevant issues and legislation, in particular in connection with health and social care and welfare benefits

This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys a varied role, combining financial reporting, systems administration, budget management, payroll support, and process improvement.

Working closely with senior finance colleagues, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the finance function while supporting stakeholders across the wider organisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the organisation's procurement and finance systems, including user administration, workflow updates, training, and query resolution.
• Provide payroll processing support and cover when required.
• Assist with budget maintenance, coding structures, and financial system updates.
• Support the production of monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
• Prepare reconciliations and oversee intercompany accounting processes.
• Process monthly overhead allocations and other month-end accounting activities.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of finance policies, procedures, and internal guidance documentation.
• Provide support and cover for finance team colleagues as required.
• Contribute to ongoing finance process improvement projects.

Essential Skills & Experience

You will be a proactive and organised finance professional with strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality work.

• Part-qualified accounting qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent).
• Background working with the Charity/Not-for-profit sector.
• Knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping.
• Experience supporting month-end processes and financial reporting.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Team-oriented approach with a willingness to learn and develop.
