We are a leading not-for-profit education partnership based in Hornsey, north London, committed to improving outcomes for children and young people.  We have c160 member schools across Haringey, Enfield and Waltham Forest. A well-run finance function underpins all of this, keeping the organisation financially healthy, giving our teams the information they need to make good decisions, and making it easy for schools to do business with us.

The Role:

We are looking for a Finance Assistant to join our small finance team two days a week. This is a new role and the work days would be Mondays and Tuesdays.  You would report to the Finance Officer.   The role will suit somone starting out in finance, returning to work with transferable skills, or those balancing other responsiblies or studying towards a finance qualification.

Key responsiblities:

This is a hands-on, in-person role at the heart of HEP.  You will keep our invoicing and payments moving, look after customer accounts, chase any debt, and make sure our records are complete and accurate. You will also work closely with school business managers, so clear and friendly written communication matters.

What you will do

  • Raise sales invoices and process supplier, partner and expense claims on our accounting system
  • Prepare the monthly payment run for authorisation and process payments once approved
  • Run the standard debt chasing cycle, handle day-to-day account queries and escalate where needed
  • Keep a complete audit trail of emails and supporting documents
  • Suggest improvements and help test new tools as we streamline our finance processes

What we are looking for

  • Accuracy and meticulous attention to detail
  • Good organisation and time management, with the ability to work to a routine and meet deadlines
  • Clear written communication, particularly by email
  • Confidence with electronic accounting software and Microsoft Office, or the ability to pick it up quickly
  • GCSE Maths and English at grade 5 or above, or equivalent
  • A team player who cares about education

Previous experience in a finance, accounts or billing role is an advantage, as is a finance or business qualification, or working towards one. Experience in the education sector is welcome but not essential.

Why join HEP

  • We are a small and friendly team with big ambitions
  • We have a strong moral compass ensuring that children and their outcomes are at the heart of everything we do
  • As a team we push boundaries to provide a world class service to our member schools and beyond
  • It is a collaborative and supportive place to work, with a close focus on CPD for our staff
  • We offer 30 days annual leave (prorated for this role) and a generous pension scheme

Other information

  • We are actively seeking diversity of experience academically and professionally, as well as representing the different communities we serve
  • You must have the right to work in the UK to commence their employment
  • HEP is an 'in-person first organisation’ and this role is in-person and office based, working in Hornsey, North London
  • Successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and other online checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education
