Job description

Got a fire in your belly to take on the housing crisis and believe in building the power of renters? Played a role in a community campaign or speak a key language in East London? Passionate about team work and empowering others to act?

We’re seeking an organiser to work with our Newham branch. An organiser’s job is to:

  • Build relationships with renters and develop their skills, confidence and leadership
  • support and inspire renters to take public action, on their housing issues or Union-wide campaign like Cut the Rent
  • meet renters on stalls, doorsteps and at community events and convince them to join the union
  • Develop an achievable plan with branch members, and support teams of members to act

£36,548 plus £1k well-being allowance, annual inflation increases, 8% parental uplift
4 day working week

The Newham branch is an active multi-race, cross-class community of renters who host powerful meetings, resist evictions, and support each other to win repairs and stay in their homes. The branch also takes on bigger collective disputes against landlords, and is part of the LRU’s Cut the Rent campaign.

We are particularly eager to hear from applicants who:

  •  are working class, and have experienced housing precarity,
  • Are racialised
  • Speak a key community language in Newham - such as Arabic, Bengali, Punjabi, Romanian, Tamil, Urdu
