About you

We are looking for a confident, big picture policy expert to work alongside the Director of Policy & Communications and lead our ambitious policy team to deliver impact. You will take evidence from the field and lab to the heart of governments across the UK, influencing change through science.

You will play a key role in the team's direction and have demonstrable knowledge of environmental policy, and established leadership and communication experience.

About the role

Reporting to our Director of Policy and Communications, the Senior Policy Manager will:

• Identify key areas of policy focus where the BES is uniquely able to add value to national conversations around biodiversity and climate.
• Direct the work of Policy Officers to deliver the BES policy strategic aims and objectives, and work collaboratively with the Policy Committee.
• Help identify and convene key stakeholders from the ecological community, including academics, eNGOs, policy makers, funders, and landowners and managers, to discuss, debate and coalesce around recommendations.
• Oversee our policy reports at both a national and UK level, working with authors and contributors to deliver publications that move a debate on and are resonant to their audiences.
• Organise events for ecological and policy audiences, independently and in partnership with other organisations, to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration.
• Track legislation and policies at the devolved, national and international levels and identify opportunities for BES input and influence.

The role

As Welfare Officer you will work alongside four National Support Coordinators, ensuring our members receive welfare and benefit related information, advice, and guidance via telephone, zoom meetings, and email.

We are looking for someone to work 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday. There will be the need to occasionally work during weekends and evenings and therefore there is a need to work flexibly when required.

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience of working within a similar role.

A keen interest in or a knowledge/experience of charitable support provision is essential.

Who are we?

Myaware is the only charity in the UK dedicated solely to the care and support of people affected by myasthenia. 

We are working hard to raise awareness, as it is a little-unknown condition. We provide support for people with myasthenia and their families, whilst offering advice and tips for living with the illness. 

We also fund the research that brings us closer to finding a cure as well as funding specialists nurses and advisors. 

Members of myaware have full access to a wide range of support services and events including access to specialist welfare and benefits advice.

Myaware supports people with myasthenia and their families.  We campaign for better medical services for people with myasthenia and work to inform medical professionals. 

The myasthenia’s are a group of neuromuscular conditions. They are rare but also manageable and can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or nationality. Myasthenia gravis, ocular myasthenia, and Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome are autoimmune conditions whereas congenital myasthenic syndrome is caused by an inherited genetic fault. It is thought that there are approximately 20,000 people currently living with myasthenia in the UK.

Role Description

This new role of Programme Officer (Social Change) will play an integral part in ensuring our grant making has the best possible impact. Working with the Programme Manager (Social Change) and the wider Impact Team, you will be the first point of contact for potential grant applicants and deliver effective processes that ensure that anyone who applies to us for funding has a positive experience, whether they are successful or not. You will lead on all aspects of administering our Social Change grant calls and provide the rest of the team with the information needed to support robust and transparent decision-making. You will also be involved in events for our applicants and will work with colleagues to continually refine and improve our grant making processes.

Role Responsibilities:

Administering grant processes:

· Working with the Programme Manager (Social Change) to update application and guidance forms for each funding round

· Work closely with colleagues to set up the grant call in our online grant management system.

· Provide guidance to potential applicants and respond to their queries, e.g. about eligibility.

· Work with colleagues who run the research funding programme to ensure that opportunities for efficiencies and shared processes are maximised

· Process grant applications, ensuring that we adhere to the highest standards of grant making

· Assist with the preparation of papers to support our decision-making processes, including supporting our Social Change Grants Assessment Panel (SGAP) by ensuring they have all relevant information and that the meetings run smoothly.

· Following final decision, ensure that terms and conditions and award letters are sent to successful applicants and ensure a smooth transition of projects to the Programme Manager (Social Change) who will manage the active projects.

Event support and attendance

· Assist with the organisation and delivery of in person and online meetings and events, e.g. a feedback session for unsuccessful applicants.

· Assist with the organisation of visits relating to the social change funding programme, e.g. helping put together briefing documents, supporting with arrangements and highlighting opportunities for stories and impact with communications colleagues.

Team support:

· Provide support to the wider Impact team where required, e.g. working with the finance team on the processing of invoices.

· Assisting the team in keeping accurate and up to date records, including on the online grants management system and ensure that all relevant records are readily and easily available

· Health or social sciences degree or with experience of working in grant making or similar

· Experience of working in an office/ administrative environment, ideally as part of a hybrid team

· Proficient in the use of standard IT packages including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

· Experience of working with committees, ideally with a health, research or charitable giving remit.

Flexibility

Key Purpose:

Engage with staff and volunteers at a local and national level across RABI as well as with key external stakeholders and partners to influence compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures. Support the Senior Service Delivery Manager to implement RABI’s reporting through maintenance of effective internal recording and reporting systems (CPOMS). Promote a high level of safeguarding awareness and related training throughout the organisation guided by priorities highlighted in the safeguarding action plan. Provide a high level of safeguarding support to all staff and volunteers and embed a strong culture of safeguarding across RABI. Act as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead in the absence of the Senior Service Delivery Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

· Work alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead to develop and enhance safeguarding practice within the organisation.

· Act as one of the first points of contact for all staff, volunteers and external queries in all matter of safeguarding.

· Daily oversight of our safeguarding system CPOMS. Follow up on any queries relating to CPOMS and develop training materials to support staff and volunteers in this area.

· Provide the Designated Safeguarding Lead with monthly report to feed into longer-term safeguarding planning.

· Work alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead to develop and deliver safeguarding training and support sessions for staff and volunteers to create an annual training plan.

· Effectively engage with staff and volunteers at a local and national level to ensure safeguarding escalations and approaches are understood through the organisation.

· If required travel to RABI volunteer groups to provide safeguarding support.

· Work with external stakeholders and partners to understand the main thematic areas of safeguarding that are impacting the community that we support.

· Work collaboratively within RABI to share information about safeguarding trends that are happening locally or nationally.

· Lead of providing safeguarding support to regional teams and provide practical guidance on managing a range of operational safeguarding risks, increasing confidence in safeguarding practice across RABI.

· Champion safeguarding practices and procedures across all Departments, ensuring compliance and driving engagement and awareness.

· Develop working relationships with key internal stakeholders e.g. volunteering, partnerships, campaigning and fundraising to offer safeguarding input to any emerging projects.

· Maintain up to date knowledge of current practice changes and any relevant changes to wider guidance, policy and legislation; including proactively engaging with other organisations and external experts to ensure RABI’s approach is informed by and contributes to best practice within the sector.

· Manage all referrals to RABI’s counselling provision ensuring all external and internal SLA’s are adhered to.

· Undertake any other task relevant to the job purpose.

We’re looking for a proactive Community Engagement Officer with an eye for detail and a can-do attitude who is willing to learn, grow and take ownership of this newly created and unique role.

As the Community Engagement Officer, working with the Community Engagement Manager you will manage relationships with regular donors and support individuals to fundraise effectively for SSR as well as thanking fundraisers and donors.

A significant part of your role will be to respond to Helpline enquiries, either by phone or email. You will be the first point of contact.  Training will be given on this.

You’ll work closely with the Community Engagement Manager on any events. The yearly ‘Scoliosis Awareness Day’ event, along with the Zorab Symposium which takes place every three years and any patient meetings that take place.

You will need database experience. We use E Tapestry, but Raisers Edge or other charity database experience is relevant.

About you

As Finance Officer with Clean Air Fund you will support the finance team with a growing organisation and complexity, helping to ensure that the financial processes and procedures of the Clean Air Fund run smoothly, efficiently and effectively, enabling other team members to be effective. 

This role will be responsible for managing all expenses, payments and month end information and processes, such as accruals, bank reconciliations. In addition, they will manage a contracts database and reconciliations between the finance system and the grant management system.

• Permanent, 35 hours per week x 52 weeks per year.

This role is part of a small Finance team that supports the work of Headway - the brain injury association. The role is line managed by the Finance Manager and liaises with every team within the organisation.

What you will do

As a Senior Finance Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining all aspects of the purchase and sales ledgers for both the charity and retail company, supporting colleagues, and resolving queries from suppliers and customers. You will monitor the purchase invoice mailbox and online purchase invoice accounts, ensuring that all invoices are downloaded promptly and passed on to relevant colleagues for authorisation.

You will be responsible for recording all purchase and sales invoices on our accounts system, Exchequer and ensuring that all bank transactions are entered on a timely basis. You will also be responsible for preparing and entering key monthly journals, including but not limited to charity and retail income, charity merchandise sales, depreciation, credit card expenditure, pre-paid rent and service charges. The majority of this work will use our Excel linked auto-loaders, but some manual entry will also be required.

You will complete monthly supplier account reconciliations and be responsible for raising any concerns or discrepancies with the Finance Manager.

You will maintain the stock system for the online merchandise shop, updating it with new stock and prices, using the information from the system to create the monthly cost of sales journal.

The Senior Finance Officer will work with the Finance Manager to ensure that all monthly and month-end routines are completed in line with team and organisational deadlines and complete any other finance tasks that may be required.

Property Management & Resources Officer

The Vacancy

We are offering an interesting and varied opportunity to support the work of the Connexional Team and the wider Methodist Church in delivering its strategic plan to make the best use of its property portfolio in local communities across the country and centrally.

Working alongside the Director and colleagues within the Property Support team, you will be providing support and management to Connexional property, particularly focussing on the Connexional manse portfolio and its resident ministers.  Alongside this, you will lead on the communications and resourcing to the District Property Officer network and other relevant networks, across the Connexion.

You will also be a central Property Support team member assisting team colleagues within their specific areas of expertise including Listed Buildings and the Church’s net zero strategy.  This could be through the provision of proactive support of and input into, relevant forms of guidance, advice, communications, training and good practice.

You will also support the Director in the administration of property grants and application received for replacement Projects under Standing Order 973.

About You

We are looking for someone who wants to make a positive contribution to the work of the Property Support team and be equally comfortable collaborating in a team environment or under your own initiative.  You will preferably have experience supporting a senior team within a property function and preferably have some experience in a property or project management type function.

As the role will underpin and contribute to supporting the team’s work with external colleagues, particularly the District Property Officer network, it is essential that you are comfortable in engaging with a range of stakeholders, and have excellent organisational skills, particularly in terms of resourcing and training.

The role will be very collaborative with team colleagues, and therefore experience and ability to plan, research and assimilate new information alongside the analysis and delivery of projects will be an essential quality.

Finance Officer

This is a full time role - Hybrid working with an expectation of weekly attendance to Head Office at Baynards Green, Nr. Bicester Oxfordshire.

Job Purpose:-

We are looking to appoint a Finance Officer to join our growing team. Reporting to the Head of Finance this new role will ensure that appropriate financial processes and systems are followed and developed to support our charity’s sustainable growth and safeguard our financial health.

The Finance Officer will ensure that financial tasks and transactions are undertaken in an efficient, effective and timely manner and, importantly, that relevant financial information is provided to keep the Head of Finance updated and informed, supporting the Leadership Team to make the best decisions for the charity.

We are looking for a confident and experienced individual to join our supportive team. Previous charity finance knowledge is helpful but not essential, above all we want an individual to be tenacious, curious, diligent and show strong initiative.

Who are you?

You should be accomplished in Sage 50 Accounts and have considerable experience working in a finance function and in financial administration.

Some experience of working with Salesforce or an equivalent CRM database and an accountancy qualification or studying towards a professional qualification ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CIPFA) or AAT qualified. Experience of working in the Voluntary Sector, paid or unpaid would be great.

You should have excellent written and verbal communication skills (a natural ability to clearly communicate financial information to those with a non-finance background). You need to have proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and experience in database and payroll systems.

It would be amazing for you to have high level of attention to detail and methodical working, be a self-starter and be able to use initiative.
