Job description

This is a new role within the Programmes Directorate to support the expansion of the Trust’s in-house impact evaluation. The Sutton Trust has an excellent reputation in this field with well-developed theories of change, robust evaluation framework and extensive data and feedback from programme participants. This role will be vital for delivering internal evaluation projects of Sutton Trust programmes, supporting with data collection and management across multiple platforms, contributing to and implementing our impact strategy and developing expertise in data analysis, project management, and data management.

The role will report to the Senior Impact and Evaluation Manager, alongside working with the Systems and Evaluation Manager, and others across the Programmes team.

Main duties

  • Working with the team to deliver the Trust’s impact strategy. This includes analysing both qualitative and quantitative data on the Trust’s programmes, creating reports to communicate findings, supporting with the collection and management of impact and engagement data, and supporting on external evaluation projects.
  • Working with colleagues across the Programmes and Development teams to support with reporting programme numbers and data requests to funders and other key stakeholders.
  • Support the Systems and Evaluation Manager with the innovation and development of our Salesforce CRM platform and other data-gathering platforms to ensure the ongoing collection and maintenance of high-quality data.
  • Work across multiple data collection platforms that gather personal data on applicants to programmes and post-programme feedback data, to ensure processes are effective, efficient, and GDPR-compliant.
  • Develop expertise in Salesforce, data analysis, and evaluation methodology via project work, proactively seeking development opportunities, by keeping up to date with developments in the sector, and attending external conferences.
  • Working with external stakeholders and delivery partners to deliver training and communication about the charity’s impact and data systems.
  • Supporting the creation and development of Theories of Change for the Programmes team.
  • Other duties as necessary from time to time.

Person Specification

We welcome applications from individuals who have experience in:

  • Experience handling and analysing large and complex datasets in Excel or a similar application
  • Strong project management skills
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn
  • Organised, independent and able to work to deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • High numerical literacy
  • High degree of initiative and the ability to take responsibility for projects
  • Personable and flexible; able to fit into a small team

Experience in/knowledge of the following areas will help you to stand out, but is not required, and training will be provided for the right candidate:

  • Knowledge and experience of the higher education, education, and/or non-profit sectors
  • Knowledge and experience of working with Salesforce
  • Experience in impact evaluation or reporting within a non-profit or educational context

We are also looking for an individual who:

  • Is sympathetic to the aims of the Trust and its mission to address educational disadvantage;
  • Has excellent attention to detail;
  • Has first-class interpersonal skills - a natural ambassador able to represent the Sutton Trust in a range of settings;
  • Is eligible to work in the UK (see here for information about right to work)

Terms of Appointment

  • Contract: Full-time, Permanent
  • Salary: £34,000-£36,000
  • Working location: Minimum of 2 office days per week
  • Office location: The Sutton Trust, 9th Floor, Millbank Tower, 21-24 Millbank, London, SW1P 4QP. Our home working policy gives staff the option to work from home for up to 60% of the time, with approval from their line manager.
  • Hours: The standard working hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and may also be required to attend events / meetings outside of their normal working hours during weekday evenings and occasionally at weekends
  • DBS check may be required
