Overview of the Philanthropy Manager role and the team

Barnabas Aid is seeking a proactive and experienced Philanthropy Manager to join our International Outreach team. This new role is integral to ensuring the growth and sustainability of our work through regular or one time organisational and personal donations. The Philanthropy Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive strategy in support of this, targeting potential supporters who wish to leave a lasting impact through Barnabas’ work. The role will involve cultivating relationships with current and prospective organisational and private UK based and international supporters, overseeing communications and marketing strategies, and ensuring that Barnabas Aid’s fund raising programme is promoted effectively across all channels.

As part of a dynamic fundraising team, the Philanthropy Manager will work closely with the Head of Campaigns, the Living Streams Officer, and the Head of Communications. The role will also involve engagement with donors, ensuring that Barnabas Aid is at the forefront of supporters' minds when it comes to making donations or leaving a legacy for future generations of Christians in need.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Fund Raising Strategy:
  •  Develop and implement a comprehensive donation, legacy marketing and stewardship strategy, with the aim of increasing the number of organisational, regular and one-off individual donations in addition to legacy gifts to Barnabas Aid.
  • Adherence to the Code of Fundraising Practice within this strategy.
• Fund Raising Marketing:
  • Create and execute marketing campaigns that inspire organisations and supporters to consider making one off or regular donations to Barnabas Aid. This will include writing promotional materials, organising events, and developing digital campaigns to raise awareness of the variety of ways of making donations and legacy giving.
• Donor Stewardship:
  • Cultivate relationships with existing and prospective donors, ensuring they feel valued and appreciated.
  • Provide regular updates and tailored communications to supporters to ensure long-term engagement and support.
• Engagement & Retention:
  • Work to retain donors by developing a robust stewardship programme that encourages ongoing involvement and loyalty.
• Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the Head of Campaigns and the communications team to ensure that the fund raising programme is integrated into wider campaigns and communications strategies.
• Reporting & Tracking:
  • Maintain accurate records of gifts and supporters, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations eg The Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Practice, charity law etc.
  • Report on campaign outcomes, analysing data to identify trends and optimise future strategies.
• Promote Donor Giving:
  • Represent Barnabas Aid at events, meetings, and speaking opportunities to promote the many different ways to donate and build awareness within all supporter communities.
• Target Achievement:
  • Set and achieve specific targets for the acquisition of new gifts and be a key player in meeting the overall goals for Barnabas Aid.

• Collaboration with Regional Offices:
  • Work with the National Directors of our Regional Offices worldwide to promote donor giving in different geographical areas and ensure strategies are relevant to regional contexts.
• Training & Development:
  • Provide training and resources to staff and volunteers to ensure the fund raising message is communicated consistently across the organisation.

Knowledge , Skills and Experience

Essential

• Fundraising Expertise:
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies, ideally within a (faith-based)charity or not-for-profit environment.
• Campaign Management:
  • Strong background in developing, planning, executing, and measuring marketing campaigns across multiple platforms, including print, digital, and face-to-face engagement.

Sense has a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our Brand and Content team as our Video Content Creator. This is a permanent, hybrid, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, based between home and our office either in Kings Cross, London or Selly Oak, Birmingham.

The Brand and Content Team nurture and develop the Sense brand, putting it at the heart of everything we do and ensuring it is consistently represented throughout every touchpoint.  We are also responsible for creating engaging and stand out content for departments across the organisation, whilst also creating content to meet our own strategic goals. 

The successful candidate will join our fast-paced and motivated team to deliver highly engaging short form video content for social media, digital adverts, website and events. Your content will build and push the Sense brand, increase understanding of the challenges faced by disabled people with complex needs, help those affected to live full and meaningful lives, inspire people to fundraise and take action, and communicate the impact of Sense’s work through engaging and compelling storytelling. In this hands-on role you will be responsible for all aspects of video production, including creative development, logistics and planning, directing, filming, conducting interviews and all elements of post-production, requiring strong organisation and project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time. 

You’ll spend a lot of time out on location capturing authentic moments and voices, translating them into compelling and engaging video content.  One day you might be at our services meeting the people we support, and another you might be at a fundraising or campaigning event.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver a consistent pipeline of engaging short form video in platform-native formats and related assets.
• Interview storytellers on camera, who may have sensitive stories, to create compelling and engaging storytelling video content.   
• Attend events and activities with the people we support to capture video content. 
• Act as a representative of Sense’s workforce in campaigning or information videos when appropriate.
• Work with internal teams to identify and plan the role that video plays in the wider communications mix.
• Ensure videos are optimized for different platforms, including using trending sounds, adding engaging text overlays, and incorporating relevant hashtags.
• Develop creative concepts and present ideas to internal stakeholders.
• Proactively identify opportunities, contribute ideas, share skills and help drive quality by working closely with teammates and services, collaborating on projects where required.

Key skills and experience

• Experience in all aspects of shooting and producing a high standard of digital first short form video content for external audiences either in an agency or in-house.
• Strong experience in creating video edits for social media (including TikTok), with demonstrable understanding and knowledge of optimal formats and tactics for different channels and platforms.
• Experience in fast-paced short (and medium-length) content, aiming for a fast turnaround.
• Experience in developing strong creative content ideas to deliver against content strategies.
• A strong understanding of and experience in crafting engaging and impactful storytelling video content.
• Working with case studies or interviewees with experience in planning and conducting interviews and drawing out compelling stories.
• Skilled experience in producing, directing, lighting, audio recording and shooting short form digital first video.
• Editing (Adobe Premiere Pro), including colour grading, audio, and exporting to required formats.
• Familiarity working with imagery and graphics as part of video projects (Adobe Photoshop).
• Mobile videography and editing skills (as well professional camera and editing skills).

We are seeking a driven and experienced manager to oversee the operational side of our Liverpool Centre. This is a pivotal role within the team which focuses on coordinating activity across the service to ensure the safe and effective delivery of our intervention.

The successful candidate will manage the day to day running of the James’ Place centre, with oversight from the Liverpool Head of Centre. You will manage the centre environment through both resource management and by influencing and driving local culture. The Centre Manager is responsible for line management of the Clinical Administrators and overseeing the processing of referrals to the service, ensuring men coming to James’ Place are welcomed warmly, within the expected timeframe and according to our values. 

This role requires someone with excellent organisational, problem-solving and interpersonal skills who can work hands-on in a busy and potentially challenging environment. You will be collaborative and work closely with the local team and wider charity outside the Liverpool centre to ensure we have consistent, strong, and effective systems in place. This would include other Centre Managers in other James’ Place centres in the UK, the Senior Management Team, and potentially trustees.

We are looking for a forward thinking and proactive individual with experience of both people and operational management. The successful candidate will align with the James’ Place values of Focus, Respect, Bravery, Professionalism, Compassion, Collaboration and Hope, and be able to demonstrate these through everyday practices including supportive leadership and line management.

Your management and administrative skills will be highly valued in sustaining the clinical operations of James’ Place. You will need to be proficient in Office 365 software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with the ability to manage Outlook cloud calendars, SharePoint, CRM databases, and shared inboxes.

The Centre Manager will often meet the men who come to James’ Place in suicidal crisis and so you will be able to demonstrate empathy and an ability to create a sense of calm while working in a sensitive and busy environment.

This is a fixed term role covering a 12-month secondment, with a possibility of becoming permanent.

As well as encouraging best practice, identifying opportunities, and advising on stories use across the engagement department.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Manage Sense’s stories database and play a leading role in ensuring the most compelling stories feature across our media, campaigns, fundraising and wider comms initiatives.
• Oversee the management of storyteller relationships at Sense, making sure that their needs are met and that they understand the role of the charity, how their story can support it and the impact of doing so - ensuring they have a positive experience throughout.
• Lead on conducting sensitive interviews with contributors, writing up their stories and updating the stories database.
• When required, translate storyteller experiences into meaningful and engaging written content across core formats, including blogs, social media posts and emails.   
• Capture additional content from storytellers that aligns with Sense’s content strategy, for example photography or short video pieces to camera.
