Could you be a Caseworker for vulnerable young people? Could you give them the support and guidance they need to get back on their feet and live independently?
The young people we work with have become homeless for a number of reasons – isolation or mental health, abusive relationships, substance misuse, involvement in gangs/county lines - their issues are complex so you will need to be able to build strong, trusting relationships so that our customers feel safe and supported.
We are opening two new supported housing schemes in Lambeth, which will be Ofsted registered. Both schemes are part of our well-established Young Persons and Complex Needs service in London and will provide temporary housing for young people aged 16-17 who are experiencing homelessness.
A bit about the role:
As a Caseworker, you will be working with a team of highly motivated, compassionate, and dedicated colleagues supporting a caseload of young customers with complex needs. You’ll need to meet each customer weekly to help them with their goals and discuss their progress. And, when someone’s ready to move on, we'll rely on you to help them access the housing register or look for suitable rented accommodation.
What we’re looking for:
You may have worked with vulnerable young people in a paid or voluntary capacity, maybe as a Youth Worker or in an education setting providing pastoral care. You’re a great relationship builder, who can create trust so that our young people feel comfortable sharing their issues with you, you listen but in a non-judgemental way and you are able to spot signs for concern and act on them. You’ll also need to be able to work on your own, sometimes dealing with challenging situations and diffusing them to avoid escalation. Is this you?
- Relationship building skills
- Empathy
- Great listening skills
- Diplomacy and the ability to deal with challenging situations and diffuse them
- Non judgmental
- Proactive and assertive

About us
Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We know that homelessness is not inevitable. We know that together we can end it.
It is an exciting and important time to be joining us at Crisis. We work with thousands of people across England, Scotland, and Wales so they can leave homelessness behind for good. We continue to adapt the way our services work to maximise our impact in ending homelessness. We have increased our capacity to work with people one to one and also strengthened our ability to support those people facing the greatest barriers to preventing or ending their homelessness.
Location: Based in Crisis Newcastle Skylight, City House, City Road, NE1 2AF
About the role
Demand for support for people experiencing homelessness is changing and we have a vacancy in our front facing Engagement and Assessment service.
This service provides first line support to people experiencing homelessness, assessing their needs, identifying support, and working with other staff and services to address their homelessness.
We need someone to join this team as a receptionist to increase our capacity to respond to new and existing members of Crisis.
As the first point of contact, our Engagement and Assessment service greets individuals who are experiencing homelessness or facing a risk of homelessness. You will need to create a welcoming and encouraging environment, to ensure that people seeking support feel understood and respected.
No two days are the same, and you will be greeting people, helping signpost to appropriate services and responding to telephone and email enquires in a positive and supportive way. This is a key role as you will be part of a members journey out of homelessness, right from their first presentation.
About you
As a receptionist you have a real opportunity to demonstrate your compassion and empathy for people experiencing homelessness as our first point of contact at Crisis.

You will need to be able to help manage the reception area, spot potential concerns and safety issues and respond to these to ensure that reception is a safe space for new and existing members, and other colleagues.
You will have experience of working with vulnerable people, balancing this together with an excellent level of customer service, IT skills and an ability to accurately record sensitive information.
You will be interested in evolving your skills and playing an active role as we continue to develop our Engagement and Assessment service further.
We believe diversity is a strength, and our aim is to make sure that Crisis truly reflects the communities we serve. We are actively working towards our organisation being a place where everyone can thrive and make their best contribution to our mission of ending homelessness for good. Camden Carers is a charity organisation that provides support and services to informal carers within the London Borough of Camden.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team at Camden Carers and make a difference to the lives of people and families in Camden. We are looking for a hardworking, enthusiastic and flexible team member who is able to adapt to the ever changing and challenging times we find ourselves in.
Carers, who provide care for a family member, partner or friend who has a disability or long-term illness, play a vital role in our community. Many people who have someone who depends on them for support don’t consider themselves a carer yet they are fundamental to the effort to keep people cared for and safe, whilst saving the NHS billions.
Camden Carers proactively embraces equality and diversity at the very core of what we do, throughout the organisation. Our commitment to equality, diversity and anti-racism is to ensure that all carers have equal access in accordance with their individual needs to our services, no matter their background, belief, sexual orientation, disability, gender, or ethnicity.
As a part of the Support & Wellbeing Team, you will be required to identify informal carers from all communities in the London Borough of Camden, who care for a family member, partner or friend living with a Mental Health condition. You will provide relevant and appropriate support, information and advocacy to informal carers.
You will need proven experience of delivering provision within a related field and working with people and/or community groups; in particular we are keen to find someone with knowledge and experience in Mental Health. More details can be found in the job application pack on our website.
Camden Carers values the diversity of its community and aims to have a workforce that reflects this. We therefore encourage applications from all sections of the community. We would like to encourage people who have been or are currently carers to apply. We are committed to ensuring that all employees and job applicants are provided with equality of opportunity in employment.

The post holder will be flexible and skilled, with an essential interest in and experience of working with migrant and refugee clients, many of whom have additional complex needs. You will work closely with our immigration caseworker manager to provide one-to-one specialist immigration advice and casework to migrant and refugee clients in Brighton & Hove and across East and West Sussex in the areas of immigration & asylum up to OISC L2. We actively welcome applications from those with lived and relevant experience – please see the job description and person specification.
We are currently the only free, Level 2-accredited, year-round provider of out-of-scope immigration advice on the South Coast, and increasing local immigration capacity is critical to address growing demand and changing demographics in the region. Our current core caseload is largely non-EEA nationals whose immigration cases are out of scope of legal aid. However we are also seeing and will continue to see new arrivals and emerging needs in the region including Afghans resettled under the ARAP and ACRS schemes, Sudanese evacuees, EEA nationals who still have not registered for pre-settled or settled status, and an increasing number of both newly arrived and established asylum seekers placed in emergency (‘contingency’) and dispersal Home Office accommodation.
The balance of time spent between different client groups and cases will therefore need to be responsive to the changes we see in the city and region. Many of our clients also have complex additional needs including health and homelessness and the post holder will be expected to liaise closely with our generalist caseworkers and external providers to ensure that people’s holistic needs are met.
You will work as part of a small, supportive advice and casework team that also includes two generalist advice caseworkers, an employability caseworker, a groupwork facilitator and four dedicated resettlement caseworkers who are supporting newly resettled refugee families mainly from Syria and Afghanistan.
Regular supervision and support and in-house and on-the-job training will be provided, as well as external training on specific issues where needed. However you will need to be ready to step immediately into a busy advice environment with the necessary confidence, skills and knowledge to begin to deliver advice and casework and pick up an existing caseload.
Ideally you will already be OISC L2-accredited, but if only L1-accredited you must be willing to work towards accreditation within the 6-month probationary period.
Postholders will need to have the right to work in the UK.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
