The post holder will lead on the hospital discharge work, regularly working out of St Georges hospital alongside the discharge team and hospital social care teams, providing information and support to Carers navigating the hospital discharge process.   

Disability Advice Service Lambeth (dasl) is Lambeth’s peer-led Disabled People’s Organisation. We’re passionate about making Lambeth an inclusive borough, free of disabling barriers to people that live and work here.

We want to appoint a Disabled person to work and train as an Advice Trainee.

When we say a Disabled person we include people with a long-term health condition, mental health condition, visual, mobility or hearing impairment; Deaf people; people who are neurodivergent and people with a learning difficulty.

In this role you will learn to support Disabled people to apply for welfare benefits, with a particular focus on disability benefits (for example, Personal Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance) and appeal decisions.

You don’t need to have done this job before or have any qualifications for this part-time role - full training and support is provided. This post runs until March 2026.

As you learn and build confidence, knowledge and skills you will start to work with your own caseload with full supervision and support. You will be training at the same time as trainee advice workers in other Disabled People’s Organisations across London so you will be able to share that journey and support each other.

About the Role

It is desirable that you have the following experience:

• Working with the DHS datasets and other demographic sources

• Conducing literature review and synthesis.

Formal Education/Qualifications:

• A degree in statistics, demography, economics, epidemiology is preferred

Job Purpose

Money Minded is a new service designed to support adults (18 years and over) in Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Hounslow. This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate closely with the West London NHS Mental Health Teams, operating within the tri-borough area.

The service provides support with welfare benefits, accessing debt support, housing and well-being. The role of the Mental Health Information and Advice Officer will be to provide advice, guidance and customer representation to tri-borough residents living with Mental Health difficulties. Advice issues may include housing, welfare benefits, council tax, accessing debt support, signposting etc.

The successful candidate will deliver support to enquirers and manage a caseload of individuals, as agreed with the Service Manager. In addition to advice casework, the Mental Health Information and Advice Officer will also be expected to assist onboarding referrals to the service, as and when needed.

The successful candidate will work closely with the West London NHS Mental Health teams and project volunteers, ensuring adherence to the Advice Quality Standard framework (AQS) and Mind's policies and procedures.

Due to the nature of the work, if successful, you will need to have an up-to-date DBS check completed, prior to undertaking unsupervised client work.

We are often the first point of call for people when they are starting to struggle financially. Location: Remote home based role with a small amount of office time four days per year to staff days, plus some travel for meetings as and when required for your role. This is a national role and we encourage applicants from across the UK to apply.

Key responsibilities within this role will be as follows:

• Develop and implement effective campaigns to raise awareness and drive action on priority issues for AdviceUK, including the effective delivery and evaluation of the #AdviceSaves campaign that includes Advice Week
• Work with the Marketing and Communication Manager to build engagement with members in support of campaigns and advocacy work, including developing social media strategies
• Alongside Policy and Public Affairs colleagues, deliver high-quality communications products including media articles, reports, blogs, presentations, web and social media content that communicate complex messages clearly and effectively to stakeholders
• Manage media and campaign areas of the website, creating regular, engaging and evidence-based content
• Devise and deliver a media strategy to secure coverage which advances AdviceUK's strategic objectives and ensures a diverse and inclusive approach
• Identify and produce engaging stories for a wide range of national, sector and local media across England, Wales and Scotland, and work with colleagues internally to communicate this content across channels
• Use a range of material to support this media communications activity including press releases, website content, video, animation, graphics, case studies and media briefings
• Work with Policy and Public Affairs colleagues to ensure effective communication of policy positions in responses to the media, opinion pieces and features and briefings for journalists
• Develop constructive relationships with journalists across the national and sector media, working with them to place proactive stories and briefing them on latest AdviceUK activity
• Support reputation management for AdviceUK and develop and maintain public position statements for key issues, advising and supporting AdviceUK staff where appropriate

We'd love to hear from individuals with the following skills and experience:

• Previous experience within a media and campaigning role
• Ability to create multi-channel integrated campaigns with a strong eye for developing content that supports calls for action
• Experience of delivering media strategies that deliver news and features coverage
• Ideally some understanding of the social welfare advice sector
• Well-developed stakeholder relationship management experience, including of nurturing positive relationships with journalists, and of working in partnership to deliver joint campaigns
• Experience of media communication planning, monitoring and evaluations in order to support decision making and improve engagement and impact
• Experience and expertise in translating evidence, data and research into compelling media-friendly content for a range of channels
