About Smart Works 

Smart Works is a dynamic, high profile and fast-growing UK charity that dresses and coaches unemployed women for success at their job interview. We empower each woman by giving her the clothes and the confidence she needs to succeed.  

After visiting Smart Works, 69% of clients secure a job within a month, gaining financial independence and transforming their lives.  

The Smart Works service is delivered in London, Greater Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Newcastle, Reading and Leeds. Over the past ten years, Smart Works has helped over 30,000 women. It is our mission that any woman who needs our service should be able to find her way to a Smart Works centre.  

In April 2022, we launched a new Three-Year Plan that will see the charity double the number of women helped annually from 5,000 to 10,000 women. To achieve this, we will grow our existing centres and open new centres in key areas of need across the UK. 

Smart Works Newcastle opened in April 2018. In our five years of operation we have supported over 1,700 women on their journey towards employment.

About the role 

Every woman who comes to a Smart Works centre is referred by another organisation or charity. Across the UK, over 400 organisations refer women to Smart Works, including job centres, refuges, prisons, work programme providers and other charities.

Without our referral partners, Smart Works would not be able to reach women in need and help them to succeed at interview and start a new chapter. Building and nurturing these partnerships is central to our work and success as a charity.

Based at our centre in Reading, you will work and travel across Berkshire to conduct outreach to ensure Smart Works receives consistent referrals and performs well against our ambitious targets to help more women year on year. in practice, this will include attending meetings with partners, organising events to showcase our service and managing all referral communications.

You will be part of the wider service delivery team in Reading, supporting on the running of the centre to the highest possible standard. This will enable you to understand and speak to the support available to unemployed women in Berkshire and what specifically Smart Works Reading can do to increase this support.

Smart Works Reading has an umbrella organisation, Smart Works Charity based in London, and there may be some infrequent travel to London. There will be liaison with the London team to support induction and training, plus participation in regular on-line meetings, phone calls and attending our annual conferences. 

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Centre Manager, the successful candidate will lead a range of activities, including:

• Managing referral partner relationships across Berkshire, nurturing existing relationships and onboarding new partnerships
• Undertake research and creating project plans to set briefs or funding to engage referral partners
• Organise, deliver and attend events across Berkshire that increase referrals to Smart Works Reading
• Analyse and manage a robust database of current referral data and potential referral partners, to identify opportunities, priorities and share successes
• Share regular, engaging communications with referral partners
• Pilot new initiatives and ideas with referral partners to increase and maintain engagement
• Support the smooth running of the Reading centre, such as by answering calls and booking appointments

About the role

The Employment Advisor’s role is to deliver the core employment support provision in NHS TT to provide employment advice, skills-based interventions, information and practical support to help people who are looking to return to work or retain their current employment.

The role will involve working with a caseload of clients with common mental health problems to provide interventions to enable them to gain or retain their employment, exchange to a more suitable job role, or return to their current employment after a period of sickness absence from work.

You will work directly with Job Centre Plus, employers and employment agencies to keep people in employment and secure employment opportunities.

About you 

This role would suit someone with experience of providing high-quality vocational/employment support and/or experience of working within an employee relations environment. If you have a sound understanding of the employment needs, barriers and difficulties faced by people with mental health conditions together with excellent IT and communication skills, both written and verbal, this could be the role for you.

The Business Support hub provides a high quality, flexible and effective business support to the Dementia Support and Partnership team. The Business Support Officer is responsible for delivering this aim by providing an efficient, high quality business support service. Business Support Officers will ensure that Society wide information systems and processes are followed consistently and will work closely with other teams to ensure a seamless, integrated service to support Dementia Support and Partnerships functions.

About you

You will be well responsible for providing a comprehensive range of business support service to the Dementia Support and Partnership team. No two days are the same, you could be organising Zoom meetings in the morning, moving onto producing commissioner reports after lunch and end the day supporting the safeguarding team.

You will:

- Be well organised, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Be confident in using Microsoft Office, especially Teams and Outlook as well as a having a good understanding of Zoom.
- Have an understanding of good practice in customer care.
- Have experience of creating, developing and implementing office and electronic systems and procedures

In October 2022 Salford City Council commissioned Salford CVS to undertake research into the strengths of the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector as part of their Joint Needs and Strengths Assessment.

Every three years since 2008, Salford CVS leads on State of the VCSE Sector research in Salford and also across Greater Manchester. Working with other local infrastructure organisations, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the VCSE sector. Our last research report was published in 2021 and we have started planning for the research to be conducted this year.

In August 2023 we further developed our VCSE sector research and insight work with the commencement of our Salford 99 longitudinal study. This research project is designed to understand the issues affecting the VCSE sector in Salford and aims to track 99 VCSE organisations every six months for a three-year period, so that we gain ‘live’ insight in between our three-yearly State of the VCSE sector large research project. Alongside this work we conduct a Pulse Check survey with a variety of VCSE organisations to get a snapshot of what is changing for them each quarter.

This exciting VCS Research and Insight role involves a combination of VCSE engagement and insight work across Salford.

We’re looking for someone to train as a Community Energy Champion to be able to provide energy advice to people in communities.

You will visit clients at home to complete Home Energy Audits, providing information and individualised support, and facilitating access to options which will improve people’s wellbeing and energy security. This will include recommending grants and helping complete applications and forms.  

As a Community Energy Champion, you will deliver face-to-face and virtual energy workshops to parent groups, carers groups, community groups and others. There is also the opportunity to  work with energy and water providers and other organisations to arrange themed workshop sessions.

This role will suit someone with excellent communication, planning skills, time management and an adaptable working style. Applicants should have relevant experience of delivering information and advice to a range of client groups. You must be confident using IT and will be trained to use our client database.

This is a part-time role (22.5 hours) and is 1 year fixed-term based at our office in New Ash Green, and the applicant will be expected to travel to other areas. Own car essential.

Job Purpose

This role is within our crisis alternative service Safe Space - an out of hours service providing a safe and welcoming space for people who are feeling distressed and experiencing crisis. The service operates 365 days a year from 12:00pm (midday) - 11:30pm across all of our boroughs. The role will consist of two shift patterns to ensure the service is covered: 11:30am-6:30pm and 4:30-11:30pm. This will be on a rota basis across support workers.

Staff within the service will provide person-centred, practical and emotional support, face to face or via telephone on a one-to-one or group basis to individuals experiencing mental health crisis. This will consist of 1:1 support; de-escalating and providing interventions, signposting for specialised or longer-term support, and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing. The aim of this service is to de-escalate and prevent further crises.

The objectives of the service include:

• To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing mental health crisis in HFEH.
• To provide support to clients accessing the service- for instance: signposting, de-escalation, planned wellbeing activities etc.
• To contribute to an improvement in individual mental wellbeing.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• To treat service users with respect, dignity and personalised support
• To raise awareness of mental health services available with the goal to improve long term mental health and reduce social isolation
• To increase self-management skills of those accessing the service
• To reduce the use of police, ambulance and statutory mental health services whilst experiencing crisis.
• To reduce the use of statutory crisis services by people experiencing mental ill health without positive outcomes for the individual.

The Role

The role of the support workers will be to support the rest of the team in delivering interventions on a one-to-one and group basis. The role will also involve triaging and assessing all clients accessing the service, signposting and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing.

Are you a driven, highly organised and collaborative individual with extensive experience of delivering training or assessing vocational qualifications to adults facing disadvantage?  Do have the ability to support people who have multiple and complex needs within challenging environments? 

If so, St Giles are looking for a Trainer to work collaboratively within a prison-based setting to provide a quality service to people in prison who work across the establishment as peer supporters wellbeing navigators. This will involve training, supporting and assessing peer supporters to achieve their Level 3 Certificate in Advice and Guidance and other vocational qualifications whilst supporting them to progress onto further opportunities and sustainable employment.

About this key role

As a Trainer, you will be embedded within a prison-based setting and expected to assess the suitability of applicants to become Wellbeing peer supporters and to complete the Learning to Advise course, which includes sessions on confidentiality, equality act, safeguarding and case notes and other relevant training.  You will then prepare, plan, and deliver the Learning to Advise assured course to individuals in prison, ensuring the completion of all relevant paperwork in a timely manner and delivering any additional Emotional Resilience/Wellbeing units necessary to individuals participating.

We will also rely on you to work with allocated learners to produce realistic assessment plans and to provide one-to-one support to learners as appropriate, whilst monitoring their progress towards timely completion and certification. Working in partnership with Big Dog Little Dog to design, adapt and deliver emotional resilience/wellbeing training sessions is also a key element of this role, as is working constructively with colleagues to achieve pilot targets and supporting local community projects with advertising, recruiting, and facilitating ROTLS.

What we are looking for

• Experience of working to targets and recording information and statistics to enable effective monitoring of performance against targets

• Level 3 Certificate in Education and Training or equivalent teaching/assessor certification

• An understanding of the issues faced by project participants in accessing and sustaining training or employment and how these can be overcome

• The ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of the issues faced by our client group, in particular barriers faced by people first entering prison

• The ability to support and motivate learners with multiple complex needs and to apply a creative approach to learning and assessing

• The ability to effectively assess evidence and identify assessment criteria using a range of assessment methods

• Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, verbal and written.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced counsellor to join the Emotional Support Team in Cornwall. If a 35-hour role is not for you, a blend of part time hours as well as flexible working is available. This can be discussed further at interview.

Position: S11168 Stroke Association - Emotional Support Coordinator/Counsellor

Location: Home-based West Cornwall, with frequent travel across Cornwall required as part of this role (May include team meetings or other work-related meetings)

Hours: Full or part-time hours, 2 x 18 hours per week positions or 1x 35 hours per week position

Salary: Circa £29,900 per annum, pro rata

Contract: This is a fixed-term contract until 31 March 2026. We currently have funding for this contract until 31 March 2026.

The Role

The project funded by the Elwyn Thomas Memorial Fund will deliver an Emotional Support Service as well as through collaborative community working, will result in valuable assets for the community. In the shape of self-sustaining peer and volunteer led support through groups, partnerships and activities.

Reporting to the Emotional Support Service Manager, the team will deliver a professional counselling service to stroke survivors, carers and relatives.  Counselling sessions are designed to help clients to develop emotional resilience, readjust to life after stroke and prepare to reintegrate into community life.

Key responsibilities will include:

· Providing one to one counselling to stroke survivors, carers and relatives including those with communication or cognitive difficulties

· Providing counselling sessions in person, on-line or by telephone, throughout Cornwall

· Assessing the appropriateness of counselling for service users by providing emotional needs assessment sessions as well as using appropriate screening/evaluation tools (e.g. PHQ and GAD)

· Managing risk and safeguarding issues in accordance with appropriate legal, ethical and organisational requirements.

About You

You will have:

· An advanced diploma in integrative, humanistic or person-centred counselling/psychotherapy; for example, BACP recognised course or equivalent (i.e. 450 hours skills and theory, 100 hours of supervised practice, 20 hours of personal therapy)

· A minimum of 1 year post qualification supervised clinical practice

· BACP registration (or equivalent) and actively working towards accreditation

· Experience of delivering short-term counselling

· Experience of working with people with cognitive impairment

This role requires extensive travel across a large geographical locality to visit people at home and in community settings. Candidates must be able to demonstrate how they can meet this requirement of the role. You must live in the West area of Cornwall to fulfil this travel requirement.

• Provide regular updates to our Executive Leadership team ensuring their sponsorship of EDI activity

• Work across the People & Culture team to make sure that EDI is embedded in our ‘people journey’. You’ll connect our EDI priorities to how we attract, develop and motivate our people 

• Connect with core subject matter experts, such as communications, data and insight and delivery teams to ensure initiatives become part of our core work.

Through the partnership of Macmillan Cancer Support, Self Help UK and the Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System, the Macmillan Beyond Dagnosis service delivers support for people affected by cancer, as well as facilitated access to voluntary and community sector cancer specific support and wellbeing interventions across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Support and interventions will be identified using electronic health needs assessments (eHNA’s) and personalised care and support planning. This will provide a structured and clear ongoing support plan for those living with and beyond cancer which are integrated with primary, secondary and community clinical care pathways.

The aim of the service is to provide an improved experience for patients beyond their interactions with clinical services by contributing to the overall holistic approach to supporting people living with and beyond cancer. This will integrate the ‘beyond medicine’ approaches offered by the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) into existing and developing cancer pathways.

The Macmillan Beyond Diagnosis Service also includes the NUH Cancer Prehabilitation service, where we provide the Beyond Diagnosis model through the Social Prescriber Link Worker role.
