About the role
The Community Outreach Officer will deliver on helping the communities susceptible to the far right. As part of the policy team, they will have access to research and policy insights on the issues which are causing tension and divisions in communities and where these tensions are most acute, and use this to devise locally-led solutions in partnership with key figures in the community and relevant sectors.
They will have experience in community organising, whether through employment or voluntary work, and use this experience to develop an organisational strategy for addressing far-right organising and hate-based community tensions. Part of the strategy will include a plan to extend and deepen HOPE not hate’s existing relationships in key areas across the UK. It will also involve designing and publicising resources, developing and delivering training and writing regular briefings.
Willingness to work with a variety of stakeholders is important. The role will include liaising with local authorities, national and local organisations and grassroots community activists to build and facilitate the design of locally-led community resilience strategies. There will also be access to our existing networks and relationships across relevant sectors e.g. migration and refugee sector, community cohesion and local authorities. An understanding that communities and community groups are the experts on their own needs is crucial – solutions should be developed with, not for, those most impacted.

Role Summary
In 2020/21, the Careers & Enterprise Company appointed its first ever Youth Board Member to the strategic board of directors, to give young people a decision-making voice. The CEC subsequently established a national Youth Advisory Group, to establish and embed an organisation wide approach to capturing Youth Voice, both for the purpose of driving impact and measuring the value of our work. This work has already had a huge impact on the company, and we are looking to embed Youth Voice still further into our work at a more strategic level.
The Youth Advisory Group has three primary functions across The Careers & Enterprise Company, to:

The Careers & Enterprise Company is seeking to recruit an 18-month fixed term Youth Engagement Officer to support the administration, facilitation and delivery of youth engagement and participation across our organisation. The role will sit within the Education Development Team and work closely with our Youth Advisory Group and Youth Board members. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to champion youth voice and deliver high quality youth participation activities.
This new role has an exciting remit to develop practice, to innovate in youth voice practice, to lead on the operational delivery of the Youth Advisory Group and support with the strategic direction of this work. Reporting directly to the Education Manager responsible for youth voice, but also working effectively across the directorate and across the company, you will manage the delivery of various aspects of our operations including, but not limited to:
- Effective project management – to ensure that CEC’s YAG has the greatest impact possible, you will work with colleagues from across the business, including at times the Careers Hub Network and put in place the right tools and processes for effective delivery of all elements of the youth voice. This may include establishing and managing relationships across teams, efficient reporting procedures and may extend to other areas of CEC’s ever evolving programme of work.
- Innovate and design – CEC’s work, and the careers education landscape, is continually evolving. Responding to changing needs of the company, skills of the YAG members and proactively planning for project pivots, will be essential to success in this role. You will look for creative ways to strengthen youth voice across the company.

The Start Funds MEAL Officer will work with colleagues within both SCUK and Start Network. Previously (until May 2019) Start Network and Start Funds and Programmes were hosted by Save the Children UK (SCUK) since its creation in 2012. The position sits within Save the Children UK as a Grant Custodian on behalf of the Start Network supported by a Grant Custodian Agreement (GCA) which describes the roles and commitments of each entity.
About the role
The Start Network funds have a robust monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) portfolio to strengthen evidence-based learning, performance and overall accountability towards the people affected by or at-risk of crises, donors, members, and partners.
Reporting to the Crisis Financing MEAL Lead, the CARF MEAL Officer will play an important role to support the ongoing MEAL activities of anticipation, early action and risk financing initiatives, with a larger focus on the impact of Start Network's newest finance mechanism, Start Ready.
This role will particularly focus on MEAL requirements and activities funded by European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operation (ECHO) and will support and work closely with CARF MEAL Advisor and the Learning and Research Advisor (within the Evidence and Learning Team).
In this role, you will:
Performance
- Support development, monitoring, and reporting of anticipation, early action and risk financing initiatives' Key Performance Indicators used in donor reporting, governance committee meetings and in other external fora as required, with a specific focus on MEAL requirement and activities funded by European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operation (ECHO).
- Strengthen management information systems and processes for data quality, storage and visualisation.
- Contribute towards the identification and implementation of diverse and innovative approaches to MEAL.
- Support the annual post-season learning reviews of the various Disaster Risk Financing systems.
Accountability
- Deliver and enhance Start Funds' quality, accountability and monitoring practices to members, partners and affected populations by organising and facilitating learning debriefs and pre/post season workshops and reviewing project report forms.
Knowledge
- Contribute towards continuous improvement of technical quality, processes and outputs of CARF MEAL including, but not limited to, the development of methodological guidelines, MEAL tools and approaches.
- Produce and support various thematic research, reviews, case studies and learning products according to the CARF MEAL work plan.
Teamwork
- Liaise with Senior Strategic Partnership Officer –ECHO and programme/operational staff to support all ECHO MEAL requirements.
- Work with the Start Communications and Digital Team and the Start Programmes Communications Manager to ensure visibility, awareness, and learning, on the role and use of forecast-based information for anticipatory responses.
About you
To be successful, it is important that you have:
- Previous experience delivering MEAL in national and/or international contexts for humanitarian or development programmes.
- Previous experience of reporting on donor or funders grants (ideally ECHO Grants) in an international organisation.
- Excellent data analysis skills.
- Proven experience of embracing new approaches, technology and ways of working.
- Experience of using qualitative and quantitative analysis software.
- Experience of using Salesforce or other customer relationship management (CRM) system.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present data and evidence in a user-friendly form and to stakeholders at different levels.
- Demonstrable experience of strong teamwork capabilities and collaboration.
- Undergraduate degree, ideally in social science, research methods, humanitarian response or related fields.
- Language skills in either French, Spanish or Arabic.

The JET team support with young people to support them into meaningful and appropriate employment, training opportunities, apprenticeships, volunteering, and education.
In this role, you will work with young people 1-1, holding small caseloads, as well as working with young people in groups and delivering employment or education-focussed sessions on a regular basis. You will also source and develop partnerships to create appropriate routes into employment and training opportunities. Alongside this, you will regularly support with delivery in our day-centre and will need to be able to work with young people from a range of backgrounds.

Position overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work with leading UK NGOs dedicated to protecting, conserving, and restoring our ocean. The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) will be working with Client Earth and Open Seas to promote UK leadership in improving domestic and international fisheries transparency and governance to end illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and related abuses.
This is a new coalition which pools the expertise of three leading NGOs in the marine space to improve the UK’s anti-IUU fishing systems and policies and to promote UK leadership on ocean governance and fisheries transparency across the world, such as through its spearheading of the IUU Fishing Action Alliance. We are intent on driving positive policy change at a UK-wide level towards sustainable and legal fishing, prioritising increased transparency in the UK fisheries sector, and endorsement and adoption of the Global Charter for Fisheries Transparency, which is the bedrock of our work. We are also encouraging the UK, as a significant global market for seafood, to work closely with other markets, such as the EU, the USA or Japan, to harmonise policies to stop IUU fishing. To make this happen, we are engaging with key decision-makers, strengthening relationships with the seafood industry and the NGO community, and using media engagement strategically.
To oversee the delivery of these objectives, we seek a full-time Advocacy Officer & Coordinator to drive positive change in the UK Government and Parliament and coordinate our project's successful management. You will have excellent advocacy, public relations and organisational skills and can work with a highly motivated and diverse team. You also possess great written and verbal communication skills, initiative and professional drive. Experience in working within coalitions and on fisheries policy are advantages.
Responsibilities
Advocacy delivery:
- Drive the coalition’s policy and advocacy goals towards the UK Government, parliamentarians, advisers and other relevant stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver effective advocacy strategies
- Draft persuasive, concise policy briefs that demonstrate why transparent fisheries benefit the UK, the devolved regions, and the UK’s relations with other countries.
- Support cross-party advocacy efforts in London in parallel to coalition efforts in Edinburgh.
- Help craft meaningful communication materials for both traditional and online media.
- Engage the UK seafood industry and retailers where needed to push for joint action towards policy-makers.
- Organise meetings and events to achieve policy goals.
Strategic coordination:
- Act as the focal point for the coalition's three NGOs, managing and overseeing the delivery of coalition outputs.
- Convene broader meetings with other NGOs working on relevant issues to update them on progress and seek inputs and perspectives.
- Ensure coalition processes are respected and coordinate the further development of the coalition’s strategy, vision, and mission.
- Advise and creatively support partner organisations in designing and implementing campaign strategies to achieve set objectives and outcomes.
- Organise and chair the coalition’s in-person meetings and regular update calls.
Project implementation support:
- Support the project team in implementing our clear objectives and allocating resources to various outcomes/outputs. Ensure that work plans and deadlines are adhered to or adjusted if needed.
- Facilitate discussion, negotiation, consensus-building and decision-making within the coalition. Although each coalition partner is responsible for designing and implementing their work plan and strategies, your guidance is essential to ensure that goals are met and progress is tracked.
- Oversee the project budget with support from EJF’s COO, including creating annual budgets, monitoring expenses, and ensuring all expenditures on planned activities are done on time.
Requirements
- Experience: At least three years experience in policy and public relations roles, preferably within environmental or advocacy organisations, or in government. Excellent organisational and project management skills, with a collaborative and positive attitude. Strategic and pragmatic thinker, ideally with expertise in policy and advocacy. Have a proactive attitude and an ability to function on your own initiative with limited supervision.
- Experience working in partnerships: Great interpersonal, facilitation and negotiation skills. and the ability to apply a structured and flexible approach are essential.
- Education/relevant experience: Relevant experience or degree in public policy or relations, environmental policy, political science, economics, organisational management or any relevant field is an advantage.
- Language skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Passion for conservation and human rights: Genuine interest in bringing about policy change on marine conservation, biodiversity, human rights and environmental issues.
- Travel: Availability for travel within the UK and potentially Europe.

This is an exciting opportunity to create change at scale, informing and promoting a practical transition to plant-based diets, in order to reduce the number of animals suffering in factory farms. Part of our Farmed Animal Campaigns team, the role will work to increase the quality and availability of plant-based options with major caterers and universities in the UK, impacting hundreds of thousands of meals daily.
This role also includes an opportunity to support the delivery of a campaign to end the use of farrowing crates, one of the worst forms of cruelty to farmed animals in the UK today. In this role you will support the Senior Manager for Farmed Animal Campaigns to create public-facing campaign assets, and develop compelling research to underpin our policy and industry engagement.

About the role
We require someone who is able to provide a range of business support functions to the Policy, Public Affairs and Campaigns Department (PPC), specifically the reporting and monitoring of grants-funded projects delivered within PPC and the administration of grants out to partners including use of our international programme management system.
The post holder will champion ways of working across the department that align with Christian Aid's strategy and systems and work closely with the Data Strategy and Transformation Lead and relevant teams to drive operational excellence and innovation that leads to smooth and effective business processes. This will include the coordination of a new PPC quarterly dashboard to track progress, improve decision making and assess impact.
The post holder may also be asked to coordinate and administrate discrete projects within the department as required such as refreshing the departmental intranet on SharePoint or work collaboratively with colleagues under the direction of a project manager within project teams. You will also be required to act as short-term cover for the Director's Executive Assistant during periods of absence and provide administrative advice for PPC staff.
About you
To thrive in this role, you will need to be comfortable with data and applying logical thinking to gathering and analysing information including the financial data required for monitoring and budgeting. You will have the ability to switch seamlessly between core tasks and project activities. You will bring your experience in creating and using spreadsheets for financial and information management, including use of web / intranet-based systems, databases, and good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel. You will have a relevant degree or postgraduate qualification and motivation to work in the charity sector and international development.
