Who we are: Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid is a well-established, innovative and forward-thinking local domestic abuse service. We are seeking a self-motivated, flexible and experienced individual to join our dynamic team to help us deliver excellent services to vulnerable women who have experienced domestic abuse and be committed to working in a non-discriminatory manner.  

About the role:  We are recruiting a Senior Advocate Educator to work closely with GP practices in Bromley borough. You will promote the IRIS programme and offer training to GP practice staff, as well as providing one to one emotional and practical support to a caseload of clients experiencing domestic abuse.  IRISi is an evidence-based domestic abuse training and referral programme developed specifically for general practice, currently being delivered across 30+ areas of England and Wales.  You can find more information about the IRISi programme on their website.   You will manage one other member of staff in the IRIS team and contribute to service plans and reports on the IRIS service. 

The successful applicant will have:  

• Experience of working with victims and survivors of domestic abuse and an understanding of the barriers to accessing support services

• Experience of delivering training to a range of professionals  

• A full driving licence and access to a vehicle in order to travel to GP practices across Bromley

Role description

Results has a long and successful history of engaging with UK parliamentarians around international development issues and providing them with the briefings and questions they need to raise these issues in parliament. As the Parliamentary Advocacy Officer for Education, you will lead our parliamentary work on education issues in line with our new strategy and commitment to equity. You will have a good understanding of how the UK Parliament works and how to engage parliamentarians in our issues. 

You will lead relationships with UK parliamentarians around global education, including providing the Secretariat for the APPG Global Education.

Key responsibilities

Parliamentary advocacy

● Working with the Head of Parliamentary Advocacy and others in the organisation to develop and implement a high impact and politically astute advocacy strategy for global education.

● Alongside the specific global education strategy, contribute to the development of Results’ overarching parliamentary advocacy strategy, working closely with the Head of Parliamentary Advocacy and other members of the team.

● Lead on the parliamentary work on global education for Results UK, by building and strengthening relationships with MPs and Peers that result in their championing the end of poverty, specifically the importance of global education, and building support for the key elements of strong national education systems.

● Provide the secretariat function to the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Global Education. The APPG secretariat/coordinator function includes guiding the Group’s work programme and activities, arranging meetings and events, corresponding with the APPG Officers and Members, briefing MPs and Peers to ask questions or speak in parliamentary debates and representing the Group externally, for example with the FCDO, Global Partnership for Education, Education Cannot Wait and others.

● Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of Parliamentary Delegations to other countries and advocacy tours to the UK, working with the relevant Policy Advocacy Officer and others in the Parliamentary Team.

● Work closely with the Grassroots Advocacy Team to ensure parliamentary and grassroots campaigning activity is coordinated and the greatest impact is achieved between the relationships our grassroots campaigners build with their local MPs, and the work led from the office to support MPs in Parliament.

● Ensure our parliamentary advocacy and relationships always remain non-partisan and cross-party, in line with our charitable aims and objectives.

Partners and coalitions

● Liaise with other global Results organisations, to coordinate our parliamentary advocacy at a global level.

● Work closely with civil society and other partner organisations and allies in the UK to coordinate parliamentary advocacy in the UK.

● Represent Results UK in global coalitions and consortia, such as Send My Friend to School (SMF), the FLN (Functional Literacy and Numeracy) Hub and others as agreed with the Head of Parliamentary Advocacy.

● Identify and develop new partnerships in line with our new strategy and our focus on equity.

Communications and media

● Where capacity allows, identify media opportunities and support media activity (including traditional and social media) related to global education.

● Contribute content to Results UK’s website, blog and social media to help achieve our organisational objectives and strengthen our brand presence.

● Publicise the APPG's activities, primarily through its website and twitter account.

● Represent Results at external meetings and events in relation to global education advocacy.

Organisational Development

● Carry out effective monitoring, evaluation and learning of your work, recording activity and outcomes that enables Results UK to measure its success, in addition to measuring the impact of your activities towards these outcomes.

● Be a key part of Results UK’s organisational development by participating in strategic discussions, evaluations, sharing your experience and ideas, and working flexibly to support other staff as required.

● Actively develop and support funding ideas to help appropriately expand Results UK’s portfolio in close collaboration with the Head of Parliamentary Advocacy and the Operations team.

● Build new and strengthen existing relationships with donors, external partners, and our advocacy targets.

● Together with the Senior Policy and Parliamentary Advocacy Officer for Education, be responsible for regular reporting to grant funders.

● Be flexible and undertake other tasks as required.

Person specification

This role is ideal for someone with public affairs or political advocacy experience, preferably in the UK, who understands the way that political decisions impact global poverty and wants to influence these decisions. A strong understanding of and passion for global education. Equally important is a proven ability to quickly gain an understanding of a complex new area and translate it into succinct, clear, achievable recommendations.

This post will provide excellent opportunities for leading parliamentary advocacy to deliver real change in funding and policy outcomes on global education and other issues; for building and deploying a strong understanding of key international development issues; and experience of working directly with UK parliamentarians and other actors across the international development sector.

Essential criteria

• At least one year of experience in a substantial parliamentary or public affairs role with demonstrable success in managing relationships with parliamentarians from different parties.
• Understanding of the UK Parliament (including the roles of MPs and Peers; the range of activity parliamentarians can undertake in parliament to influence Government policy; the role of APPGs; Select Committees).
• A good understanding of international development issues and in particular, the need for approaches based in equity and partnership.
• An ability to learn quickly about new development issues and clearly convey this information to others.
• An ability to write clearly and succinctly, for a range of audiences, from lengthy formal submissions to short articles or blogs.
• Experience in representing organisations, networking, and working in coalitions.
• Experience of event organisation.
• Excellent English writing skills with an ability to write clearly and succinctly for a range of audiences.
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to build rapport with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
• Good understanding of carrying out effective Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), for advocacy work.

About the Role:

We are seeking a passionate Health Advocate to join our team. This role focuses on promoting and delivering a training package to general practice teams, building relationships with local practices, and providing specialist support to patients affected by domestic abuse.

Key Responsibilities:

• Promote and deliver in-house training on domestic abuse to general practice teams.

About the International Parliamentary Network for Education

The International Parliamentary Network for Education (IPNEd) helps mobilise the political leadership necessary to accelerate quality education for all.

Role description

The Parliamentary Advocacy Coordinator (Education) will work with both organisations, providing crucial support to the Results UK Education and IPNEd Teams. We are looking for someone who will be proactive, efficient and flexible in supporting our parliamentary advocacy work both in the UK and globally. Having a can-do attitude that includes the more administrative aspects of the role is essential. This post will provide good opportunities for developing project management and advocacy skills; an understanding of key international development issues; and experience of working with Parliaments and parliamentarians in the UK and globally.

We are looking for candidates with an interest in and passion for international development and education to address poverty, inequality and oppression.

Key responsibilities

Supporting the work of the Results UK education and IPNEd teams​

• Providing administrative support to the Results UK Education and IPNEd Teams and ensuring the smooth-running of internal processes that support the teams’ work, for example: contributing to the maintenance of the contact management systems and databases; supporting monitoring, learning and evaluation processes; tracking and communicating impact; engaging with external providers (e.g. report designers); managing procurement of translation services for events and meetings.

• Supporting political analysis for Results UK and IPNEd education teams to identify parliamentarians to work with as members of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Global Education in the UK and the IPNEd global network.

• Assisting with organisation of virtual and in-person parliamentary events, including leading on logistical details and assisting in developing project plans and schedules.

Communications and media

• Support Results UK communications and contribute to activity and contribute content to Results UK’s website, blog and social media to help achieve our organisational objectives and strengthen our brand presence.

• Managing the APPG on Global Education Twitter Page and supporting APPG newsletters.

• Creating and sharing communications content for IPNEd including: social media content for  Twitter and LinkedIn; contributing to the IPNEd website; sending out communications to the network and writing content for the monthly IPNEd newsletter.

• Working with the Grassroots and Communications Team to ensure maximum impact between the relationships our grassroots campaigners build with their local MPs, and the Education Team’s advocacy work.

This role is based in our Old Street office with flexibility of hybrid working. As a Children & Young people's Independent Domestic Violence Advisor you will be required to:

• Effectively manage a caseload of different risk level cases of young people and provide specialist support to reduce the risk and increase safety.
• Provide one to one support to children and young people living in families affected by domestic abuse.
• Work collaboratively with LVWS IDVAs and other relevant support services to achieve the best outcomes for the family unit.

As a CYP IDVA:

Role description

Results UK has a long and successful history of engaging with UK parliamentarians around international development issues and providing them with the briefings and questions they need to raise these issues in parliament.  As the Parliamentary Advocacy Officer for Child Health, you will lead our parliamentary work on global child health issues (routine immunisation and polio eradication in particular) in line with our new strategy and commitment to equity.  You will have a good understanding of how the UK Parliament works and how to engage parliamentarians in our issues.

You will lead relationships with UK parliamentarians around child health, including providing the Secretariat for the APPG Vaccinations for All.

Key responsibilities 

Parliamentary advocacy

• Working with the Head of Parliamentary Advocacy and others in the organisation to develop and implement a high impact and politically astute advocacy strategy for child health.

• Alongside the specific global education strategy, contribute to the development of Results’ overarching parliamentary advocacy strategy, working closely with the Head of Parliamentary Advocacy and other members of the team.

• Lead on the parliamentary work on child health for ResultsS UK, by building and strengthening relationships with MPs and Peers that result in their championing the end of poverty, specifically on malnutrition, and building support for nutrition interventions.

• Provide the secretariat function to the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) Child Health. The APPG secretariat/coordinator function includes guiding the Group’s work programme and activities, arranging meetings and events, corresponding with the APPG Officers and Members, briefing MPs and Peers to ask questions or speak in parliamentary debates and representing the Group externally, for example with the FCDO, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, UNICEF and others.

• Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of Parliamentary Delegations to other countries and advocacy tours to the UK, working with the relevant Policy Advocacy Officer and others in the Parliamentary Team.

• Work closely with the Grassroots Advocacy Team to ensure parliamentary and grassroots campaigning activity is coordinated and the greatest impact is achieved between the relationships our grassroots campaigners build with their local MPs, and the work led from the office to support MPs in Parliament.

• Ensure our parliamentary advocacy and relationships always remain non-partisan and cross-party, in line with our charitable aims and objectives.

Partners and coalitions

• Liaise with other global Results organisations, the ACTION Global Health Advocacy Partnership Secretariat and other ACTION partners to coordinate our parliamentary advocacy at a global level.

• Work closely with civil society and other partner organisations and allies in the UK to coordinate parliamentary advocacy in the UK.

• Represent Results UK in global coalitions and consortia relevant to your lead issue area, such as the UK Gavi CSO Working Group, the Polio Resource Mobilisation Group and others as agreed with the Head of Parliamentary Advocacy.

• Identify and develop new partnerships in line with our new strategy and the focus on equity. 

Communications and media

• Where capacity allows, identify media opportunities and support media activity (including traditional and social media) related to nutrition.

• Contribute content to Results UK’s website, blog and social media to help achieve our organisational objectives and strengthen our brand presence. 

• Publicise the APPG's activities, primarily through its website and twitter account. 

• Represent Results at external meetings and events in relation to child health advocacy. 

Organisational Development

• Carry out effective monitoring, evaluation and learning of your work, recording activity and outcomes that enables Results UK to measure its success, in addition to measuring the impact of your activities towards these outcomes.

• Be a key part of Results UK’s organisational development by participating in strategic discussions, evaluations, sharing your experience and ideas, and working flexibly to support other staff as required.

• Actively develop and support funding ideas to help appropriately expand Results UK’s portfolio in close collaboration with the Head of Parliamentary Advocacy and the Operations team.

• Build new and strengthen existing relationships with donors, external partners, and our advocacy targets.

• Together with the Senior Policy Advocacy Officer for Child Health, be responsible for regular reporting to grant funders. 

• Be flexible and undertake other tasks as required.

Person specification

This role is ideal for someone with public affairs or political advocacy experience, preferably in the UK, who understands the way that political decisions impact global poverty and wants to influence these decisions. A strong understanding of and passion for global health issues, particularly those that relate nutrition. Equally important is a proven ability to quickly gain an understanding of a complex new area and translate it into succinct, clear, achievable recommendations. 

This post will provide excellent opportunities for leading parliamentary advocacy to deliver real change in funding and policy outcomes on child health and other issues; for building and deploying a strong understanding of key international development issues; and experience of working directly with UK parliamentarians and other actors across the international development sector.

Essential criteria

• At least one year of experience in a substantial parliamentary or public affairs role with demonstrable success in managing relationships with parliamentarians from different parties.

• Understanding of the UK Parliament (including the roles of MPs and Peers; the range of activity parliamentarians can undertake in parliament to influence Government policy; the role of APPGs; Select Committees).

• A good understanding of international development issues and in particular, the need for approaches based in equity and partnership.

• An ability to learn quickly about new development issues and clearly convey this information to others.

• An ability to write clearly and succinctly, for a range of audiences, from lengthy formal submissions to short articles or blogs.

• Experience in representing organisations, networking, and working in coalitions.

• Experience of event organisation.

• Excellent English writing skills with an ability to write clearly and succinctly for a range of audiences.

• Strong interpersonal skills, able to build rapport with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

• Good understanding of carrying out effective Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), for advocacy work.

Women in Prison’s Advocates deliver high-quality, trauma-informed, independent advocacy for women in communities and in prisons, which focuses on early intervention, and holistic provision as part of a ‘whole system’ multi-agency response that looks to address the root causes of women’s offending.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide in-depth, ongoing support to a caseload of women who have been referred for support from Probation Services, in partnership with the Women’s Support Centre, Surrey.

2. General Responsibilities

Labour Behind the Label's Advocacy Lead is responsible for engaging with key stakeholders in campaigns to call for better conditions in the garment industry and pushing our message in the media. They take part in LBL’s outward facing work, delivering lobbying and campaigns, and designing actions to push brands and policy decision makers to improve conditions.

You will join Labour Behind the Label - a small but mighty garment workers' rights campaign, working as part of a global network of unions and worker rights groups on the ground in garment producing countries to improve conditions in fashion supply chains. Our workers' co-op is a flat structure organisation where you get to work alongside a small of team of colleagues to shape campaigns and directly make a difference.

Campaigns and Policy

• Design and participate in delivery of UK-wide campaigns strategies to call for better rights and conditions in clothing production facilities worldwide, alongside other staff

• Lobby companies and policy decision makers to push for corporate and legislative solutions

• Write policy reports, articles and briefings, and create campaign materials

• Organise seminars and events with brands and policy decision makers on key campaigning issues

• Organise, with team members, demonstrations and online actions for supporters to take to push brands and decision makers on key campaigning issues.

• Participate in international working groups as necessary
   

Communications

• Lead on press work, including representing Labour Behind the Label in the media, writing and sending press releases, logging media coverage and responding to media enquiries where relevant.

• Build LBL’s press list and relationships with journalists

• Write campaigns communications towards supporters, including online supporter mailings and updating the website regularly with new content.
   

Urgent Appeals (1 day)

• Work with the Clean Clothes Campaign and international partners to respond to urgent appeals

• Log ongoing cases, and liaise with partners to ensure effective strategies are built

• Lobby companies, policy decision makers, or relevant institutions about urgent appeals

• Develop and deliver mini campaigns to see resolutions to urgent appeal calls
   

Other Tasks

• Project and budget management

• Work with other staff to identify opportunities for grants and funding, and to report back on outputs and costs to funders as relevant

• Writing and inputting into relevant areas of the website, social media and publications

• Participate in team meetings and undertake organisational management tasks as appropriate

Our team in Camden has an exciting new opportunity for a Women Specialist Advocate to join the WiSER project, based in Camden. You will join us on a fixed term basis until the end of March 2025 (with the possibility of extension subject to ongoing funding.)

The WiSER Project is a partnership of specialist charities working together to provide support and advocacy for women whose experiences of violence and abuse intersect with multiple and severe disadvantage. We work with women who are frequently excluded from mainstream services and/or find it hard to engage with support, which increases their vulnerability and risk. Our assertive outreach approach enables women to access support, increase their self-esteem, and make safe choices.

About the Women Specialist Advocate role:

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic Specialist Advocate to join our advocacy and support team in Camden, with a specific remit to reach and support women facing multiple disadvantage. You will work intensively with a small caseload of women as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating extensively with external agencies.

You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the intersection between severe and multiple disadvantage and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and have a strong understanding of how this can make it difficult for women to engage with support. You will have worked with people experiencing various aspects of severe and multiple disadvantage: homelessness, substance use, mental health issues, insecure immigration status, prostitution, offending history and children taken in to care. Most importantly, you will be committed to improving services and life chances for women affected by VAWG who are experiencing severe and multiple disadvantage.

Please note: This service is run by women for women and is therefore restricted to women applicants under the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

About you:

• An excellent understanding of the issues faced by women survivors of VAWG, including a knowledge of options for and rights of women experiencing all forms of VAWG.
• The ability to take a resilient and assertive approach to reaching out to and building trust and positive relationships with women who are experiencing multiple disadvantage, and who may present as reluctant to engage and/or may be presenting in crisis.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of professionals (some of whom may have very different approaches to problem solving) through a multi-agency approach, and advocate to agencies on behalf of the Project and its service users.
• A demonstrable commitment to providing a non-judgemental, non-directive and empowering approach to supporting women.
• A high level of personal organisation with the ability to plan and prioritise your own work.

About the position 

This is an exciting opportunity to create change at scale, informing and promoting a practical transition to plant-based diets, in order to reduce the number of animals suffering in factory farms. Part of our Farmed Animal Campaigns team, the role will work to increase the quality and availability of plant-based options with major caterers and universities in the UK, impacting hundreds of thousands of meals daily. 

This role also includes an opportunity to support the delivery of a campaign to end the use of farrowing crates, one of the worst forms of cruelty to farmed animals in the UK today. In this role you will support the Senior Manager for Farmed Animal Campaigns to create public-facing campaign assets, and develop compelling research to underpin our policy and industry engagement.

Key areas of responsibility:  

• Initiate and maintain relationships with universities, food service companies and public sector institutions to support and oversee their delivery of goals to reduce meat/animal products  

• Work with consultants to develop and deliver our Forward Food culinary training programme to food service professionals, to support their understanding of plant-based food and marketing, and their role in the just protein transition.  

• Identify and support opportunities to encourage people to eat fewer animal products, including working with media and celebrity ambassadors. 

• Conduct environmental impact assessments on menus and food procurement to effectively monitor and report on progress towards meat-reduction goals 

• Deliver compelling and informed advocacy to UK political stakeholders to encourage the adoption of policies that catalyse a just protein transition and better farmed animal welfare. 

• Support development and delivery of HSI UK’s farmed animal campaigns strategies  

• Research and present on industry-related trends and developments in the plant-based food market and alternatives to cage confinement.

Our successful candidate will be confident, articulate and creative with a proven track record of supporting the delivery of effective campaigns through research and advocacy. You’ll be a proactive self-starter, and someone who brings positive energy to work within teams. You’ll have a keen eye for detail and accuracy, as well as experience and ability to produce compelling and effective advocacy materials, including analysing scientific data and translating it into meaningful language for stakeholders. You’ll have experience of building strategic relationships in the private or public sector to deliver agreed goals. You will have an ambition and drive for creating positive change for animal welfare, and a willingness to regularly evaluate our progress and impact with a view to further improving our strategies.

LGBT+ Independent Hate Crime Victim Advocate

Galop, the UK’s LGBT+ anti-abuse charity, is seeking an LGBT+ Independent Victim Advocate.

Galop works directly with thousands of LGBT+ people who have experienced abuse and violence every year. We specialise in supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime, and other forms of abuse including honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and so-called conversion therapies. We are a service run by LGBT+ people, for LGBT+ people, and the needs of our community are at the centre of what we do.

We run a national support helpline for LGBT+ victims and survivors of all types of violence and abuse. We provide advocacy services, both in London and nationally, for LGBT+ victims who need longer-term support. We are person-centred, empowerment-based, and trauma-informed – meaning our focus is always on helping our clients decide what is best for them, and then supporting them through their journey.

We use what we learn through working on the frontlines with clients to work on national and local policy change, to improve outcomes for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse and violence. We build evidence through key pieces of research, like our upcoming report into LGBT+ experiences of sexual violence. We push for legislative change, improved statutory guidance for victims, and better understanding of the needs of LGBT+ people around the country.

You will work directly with LGBT+ victims/survivors of abuse and violence, offering them a space to talk and think through options, helping them plan what they want to do, and offering assistance in getting what they need from services. Your work will focus on needs specifically related experiences of abuse or violence, including issues such as wellbeing, support with the criminal and civil justice process, safety and access to other services to enable survivors to cope and recover. You will be empathetic and thoughtful in your approach to understanding your clients’ needs, while remaining boundaried and mindful of self-care.

You will have expertise in delivering needs-led specialist support services. You will need to be solutions-focussed and enjoy working collaboratively across a diverse and committed team. You’ll need to have good resilience and self-care, and be prepared to work in an environment where abuse and violence are regularly talked about. You’ll need to understand the impact of trauma and how that affects our team.
