Finance Director

An exciting opportunity to lead finance within a globally respected charitable foundation

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Interim Finance Director to join a high-profile international foundation for an initial six-month period, while they decide on permanent recruitment. Working closely with the Executive Director and Board Committees, you will take responsibility for the organisation's entire finance function, ensuring robust financial management, compliance, reporting and governance across a complex portfolio of grant-making, investments and property interests.

This role offers a unique opportunity to combine charity finance, investment oversight and strategic financial leadership within an organisation making a significant global impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of financial management and reporting
  • Produce quarterly management accounts and financial analysis for senior leadership and Trustees
  • Oversee cashflow management and financial planning
  • Prepare statutory accounts and regulatory returns Charity Sorp
  • Manage UK payroll and coordinate overseas payroll arrangements
  • Complete VAT, Corporation Tax and other relevant taxation returns
  • Monitor and reconcile investment portfolios, including foreign currency transactions
  • Oversee accounting and reporting for restricted funds and grants
  • Review project financial returns and ensure compliance with funding requirements
  • Manage relationships with auditors, banks, investment managers and financial advisers
  • Support the work of the Audit and Investment Committees, including preparation of papers and minutes
  • Assist with risk management and governance activities
  • Provide financial support relating to the organisation's property portfolio, including rental income monitoring and lease negotiations

About You

We are looking for a qualified accountant who combines exceptional technical capability with the ability to work independently and engage effectively with senior stakeholders.

Essential Requirements

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified
  • Significant post-qualification experience within the charity or not-for-profit sector
  • Strong understanding of charity accounting, reporting and compliance requirements
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts and managing audits
  • Knowledge of restricted fund accounting and grant management
  • Experience accounting for investment portfolios and foreign currency transactions
  • Strong understanding of VAT, including partial exemption recovery and reverse charge arrangements
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability
  • Experience using accounting systems such as Microsoft Business Central and payroll systems such as Sage Payroll
