The Opportunity

An established not-for-profit organisation is seeking an experienced Interim Head of Finance & Administration to provide leadership across finance operations, financial reporting, governance, treasury management and team leadership during a key period of activity.

Reporting to the CFO, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring strong financial controls, timely reporting, effective cash management and a smooth year-end and audit process. You will also oversee administration functions and lead a small finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on, technically strong finance professional who can quickly add value within a complex and mission-driven organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the finance function, ensuring robust financial controls, processes and procedures.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Prepare management accounts, forecasts, budgets and cashflow reporting.
  • Oversee statutory reporting and support the preparation of annual financial statements.
  • Lead external audit activity and coordinate responses to audit queries.
  • Manage payroll, pensions, expenses and supplier payment processes.
  • Oversee banking relationships, treasury activities, cash management and investments.
  • Monitor financial compliance, risk management and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Support senior leadership with financial insight and decision-making.
  • Manage and develop a small finance team, providing guidance, mentoring and operational leadership.
  • Act as a key contact for internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, banks and service providers.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be:

  • A fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Experienced in senior finance leadership roles within charitable, not-for-profit, public sector or complex multi-entity organisations.
  • Able to demonstrate strong technical accounting knowledge, including statutory reporting and audit management.
  • Experienced in budgeting, forecasting, cashflow management and financial controls.
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities and delivering to tight deadlines.
  • A confident people manager with experience leading transactional and operational finance teams.
  • Advanced Excel user with experience working with integrated finance systems.
  • Available at short notice or immediately available.

Desirable Experience

  • Charity accounting and Charity SORP knowledge.
  • Multi-currency and international reporting environments.
  • Treasury, investment management or banking oversight.
  • Experience of donor income, fundraising finance or grant-funded organisations.

Apply

This is an immediate requirement for a proven finance leader who can quickly establish control, support business-critical finance activities and provide stability to a high-performing organisation.
