An established and highly respected national charity is seeking an experienced Head of Finance to join the organisation on a six-month fixed-term contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded qualified accountant to provide strategic financial leadership during a period of transition and development. Reporting to the Director of Finance, Governance and Technology, you will lead a capable finance team while ensuring the organisation continues to deliver high-quality financial reporting, controls, planning and business insight.
Working closely with the Executive Team, Trustees and senior stakeholders, you will play a key role in supporting decision-making, improving financial performance and ensuring resources are deployed effectively to maximise organisational impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the finance function, providing high-quality financial support to senior leadership and trustees.
- Oversee annual budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning processes.
- Ensure robust financial controls, processes and governance arrangements are in place and operating effectively.
- Lead the preparation of statutory accounts and manage the year-end audit process.
- Deliver insightful financial reporting and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Translate financial data into meaningful business insights that drive organisational performance.
- Oversee day-to-day finance operations, including treasury management, VAT and regulatory compliance.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and reporting through automation and technology.
- Drive greater value from finance systems, business intelligence tools and management information.
- Present financial analysis and recommendations to senior leadership teams and governance committees.
About You
You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience and a track record of operating at a senior finance level.
We're particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- A commercially minded approach, with the ability to balance strong financial control with strategic business partnering and insight.
- Proven leadership of high-performing finance teams.
- Experience leading statutory accounts production and external audit processes.
- Strong financial control, governance and risk management expertise.
- The ability to influence senior stakeholders and communicate complex financial information clearly.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience driving process improvement, automation and finance systems development.
- A collaborative leadership style with the ability to support organisational decision-making and performance.
- Experience within the charity, not-for-profit or wider purpose-led sector would be advantageous but is not essential.
Experience of Business Central, Power BI or similar finance systems would be advantageous.
