Elders Voice, a charity supporting older people, are excited to be joining a consortium of organisations, that will work together on making Brent an age friendly borough. The National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) is seeking a proactive and skilled Media Officer to join our Communications and Public Affairs team. This is a newly created role, offering the opportunity to help shape and strengthen NFCC’s voice in the national conversation around fire and rescue services.

Reporting into the Media and External Affairs Manager, you will play a central role in growing our media presence and positioning NFCC as the go-to source for journalists covering national fire and rescue issues. You will help to ensure our messages are clear, timely, and authoritative across all platforms.

Key responsibilities:

Serve as a point of contact for incoming media enquiries.

Draft high-quality, publication-ready communications content – including press releases, news articles, opinion pieces and other engaging content. 

Support NFCC’s campaigns and policy initiatives by securing media coverage and developing strong relationships with journalists and editors.

Take ownership of key communications tools and systems, including media monitoring and audit of coverage.

Participate in an out-of-hours communications rota as part of NFCC’s communication support function (with some out of hours support – see job description for more information).

The Winchester Diocesan Board of Finance is a Charitable Company. All dioceses of the Church of England are required to have a Diocesan Board of Finance (DBF) to act as the link between the episcopal, synodical, and secular governance and leadership structures.

The WDBF’s principal object is to promote, assist and advance the work of the Church of England in the Diocese of Winchester by acting as the financial executive. In practice this means that the WDBF is responsible for funding the remuneration, housing, training and development of our clergy, as well as providing specialist support in areas such as safeguarding, historic building conservation, stewardship, communications and governance. We are also legally responsible for the maintenance and management of around 200 clergy houses, 450 acres of land, and various restricted funds and endowments.

Casework & Training Lead Officer

Full-time (35 hours); initial one-year contract; £28-35K dependent on experience, immediate start

Amicus provides representation for those facing the death penalty in the US.  We believe capital punishment is imposed disproportionately on the most vulnerable in society, violating their right to due process and to equal justice before the law.  Our aims are to provide better access to justice and to raise awareness of potential abuses of defendants' rights.

We are not primarily a campaigning organisation; rather, we believe we can make the greatest difference through frontline work, including via our extensive network of casework teams working on a variety of projects.

We’re seeking a Lead Officer to play a central role in the busy Amicus team, with the position’s focus being on casework and on training.  The role offers a great deal of variety: coordinating our busy casework programme of projects, including supporting caseworkers and teams; and leading in the delivery of training and educational events, especially those aimed at our casework teams.

You will be part of a small team, which means we all pitch in to help each other when necessary. Workload will be demanding at times, an ability to work across multiple tasks and to prioritise will be essential.  Given the critical and highly sensitive nature of our work, attention to detail, meeting deadlines and quality of work all are a high priority.  You will be interacting with law firms and volunteers all around the world, making communication skills essential for the role.

This is a hybrid role; there will be a requirement to be in our central London office, generally Thursday and Fridays, as well as for casework briefings at law firms as required within the working day, alongside some remote working. Office hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm with an hour lunch break. We run two major training events each year that would require weekend working. We would consider part-time/job-share working for the right person/people.

Key Responsibilities

Support of busy casework programme:

• Working closely with the Casework & Training Senior Manager, other staff and volunteers
• Coordinating with US defence teams, and with the academics involved in many of our projects  
• Supporting student casework projects
• Briefing teams of casework lawyers from the UK offices of international affiliate teams
• Keeping close links with the US affiliate capital punishment firms
• Support in recruiting new casework volunteer teams and in-house volunteers
• Taking a lead role in driving casework-focused training 
• First point of contact for general casework enquiries
• Monitoring casework teams; updating teams on the progress of cases; keeping the casework database up-to-date; and producing reports

Amicus operational work:

• Biannual training programme: Supporting directly the delivery of this programme, especially in relation to the casework-focused elements
• Presentations and talks: Co-ordinating, and (in time) sometimes fronting, for firms and for student groups
• Events: Assisting with the preparation, planning and logistics of awareness-raising events (often arranged around visiting experts conducting training) and of fundraising events
• Website and social media (Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn and X/Bluesky): Casework-focused content and checking content is appropriate and in line with our policies
• Assisting the Executive Director and the Casework & Training Senior Manager with ad hoc tasks and work as required

Skills and Experience

Essential experience:

• Experience in a legal and/or corporate environment
• Experience of large volume data management

As Head of Homelessness and Complex Needs, you’ll lead the delivery, development and growth of Concrete services, to enable us to achieve our ambition of making homelessness history. You will strategically and operationally lead and coach all teams to deliver a range of services across North Staffordshire and Cheshire East. 

Job requirements 

• Lead Concrete’s homelessness housing and support services across Staffordshire and Cheshire East. 

• Define and review services to ensure that the needs of customers are met, and develop new and existing services for Concrete’s customers, with a focus on preventative measures. 

• Manage property portfolios, acquisitions, and developments. 

• Raise awareness of homelessness and promote the work of Concrete to make homelessness history. 

• Effective leadership and management of people, including maintaining positive team dynamics, ensuring teams and services are well developed, induction and training of staff and coaching and support to ensure further development. 

• Meet legislative and contractual requirements and ensure compliance with the use of systems and collection of data. 

• Be the primary point of contact at a senior level with partners, representing Concrete at local, regional and national forums. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with other relevant agencies. 

• Ensure that customers are involved and embedded in the day-to-day practice of services. 

• Be actively engaged in the promotion of homelessness services, initiatives and campaigns. 

• Act as the spokesperson for publicity opportunities, alongside the Executive Director of Support and Wellbeing. 

What we’re looking for 

• Good standard of education GCSE in English and Maths or equivalent, with a relevant qualification in housing/social care/support services and with evidence of career progression and self-development. 

• Experience managing supported housing and/or homelessness services. 

• Experience building positive working relationships with commissioners, funding schemes and partners. 

• Experience managing, coaching and developing people at Team Leader level or above, across multiple services and locations. 

• Knowledge and experience of managing contracts and services, with effective management of teams within funded and regulated services. 

• Up to date with current issues, practices and laws within safeguarding, homelessness, mental health and housing. 

• Great written and verbal communication skills and experience working with people at all levels. 

• Self-aware, engaging of others, able to lead change and achieve results. 

• Empathetic and understanding of Concrete’s diverse customer group, with a drive to create the best possible services to meet their needs. 

• Enhanced DBS check. 

• Driving licence with access to own vehicle for work.
