Job Purpose

We are looking for a Marine Scientist to play a substantive role to support all of Oceana’s UK campaigns. Research, science and data are at the heart of Oceana’s UK work, underpinning our policy positions, creating campaign moments and answering key questions with new research.

The successful candidate will write and project manage research to unlock key campaign questions relating to overfishing, habitat protection and energy in particular, as well as other potential campaign areas in future. They will also work to increase Oceana’s presence within the academic community, attending relevant conferences and meetings and seeking future collaborations on topics of interest.

The Scientist will report to and be supported by the Director of Policy and Research, and work closely with science colleagues across the Oceana global network and beyond. Eligible candidates should have some experience in conducting research, including analysing data, but we’re equally looking for passion, motivation and a drive to protect the ocean. You should be a self-starter, with a strong ability to work independently and as part of a small but growing team.

Role Overview

• Support the delivery of Oceana’s campaigns, working with the Director of Policy and Research and relevant campaign teams.
• Research, draft and/or review content for Oceana’s scientific reports and other external communications, with particular attention to scientific accuracy.
• Gather evidence to support Oceana’s UK campaigns, including analysing primary and secondary data, conducting literature reviews and creating position papers.
• Commission and project manage research from external partners as needed, managing relationships through the duration of any projects.
• Work closely with the Oceana HQ Science and Strategy team and other scientist colleagues in the Oceana network to gather insights, inspiration and knowledge.
• Coordinate relevant stakeholders to ensure internal scientific reviews are completed in line with campaign timelines.
• Build strong external relationships within the academic community and represent Oceana to ensure we advance our goals with a wide range of stakeholders, from the general public to politicians.
• Actively participate in key policy and research conferences and events to defend and advance Oceana campaign goals.
• Maintain subject matter expertise and identify areas for new research by following the current literature, attending relevant meetings, and communicating with peers in the field.
• Represent Oceana externally in relevant networks, with partners and in the media as needed.
• Conduct other policy and research tasks as agreed and required.

Candidate Requirements

Education and work experience

• Degree, ideally masters-level, in environmental, fisheries or marine science, or a related field.
• Familiarity with marine and climate issues, regulations and policies in the UK, as well as with key institutions and decision-making processes.
• Experience writing or commissioning primary or secondary research and associated materials summarising the work.
• A passion for UK seas and delivering a healthy ocean in general.

Skills and knowledge

• Familiarity with UK marine and fisheries policy and science.
• GIS and database proficiency, including basic knowledge of GIS mapping and statistical analysis.
• Strong project management skills, with experience managing multiple workstreams and projects effectively to time and budget.
• Ability to represent Oceana in a professional and responsive manner both within and outside the academic community
• Excellent writing, editing, communication, organisational and research skills with the ability to confidently distil scientific messages to stakeholders with varying levels of expertise.

The role

Main areas of responsibility

Operations

• Work as a team with the Warehouse Manager , Warehouse Coordinator colleagues and volunteers to ensure all shifts are adequately planned, supervised and meet operational needs this includes driving a Forklift

Position will be 07.30 to 3.30,/ 08:30-16.30 Monday – Friday and, on occasional Saturdays on a rota basis.  

Flexibility to provide cover for planned and ad-hoc absences as well as Public and Bank Holidays is highly desirable in this role and also offers the opportunity for additional hours to supplement the core hours.

The Marketing Manager at CBM UK is a vital role and has responsibility for delivering CBM UKs digital and direct marketing plans to engage and inspire individual supporters and churches to support the work of CBM.
Working closely with the Head of Marketing, as part of the Public Fundraising team, the role holder will be responsible for the management and development of two Marketing Officers. Through digital and direct marketing, the Public Fundraising team are responsible for raising over £3m of unrestricted income from cultivation, acquisition, mid-value donors, regular giving, legacies and churches.

Key responsibilities
Fundraising campaign management (40%)
Manage the effective implementation of the annual public fundraising plan, ensuring that all activity is of a high standard, and delivered on time and to budget:
a. Oversee cultivation fundraising appeals primarily carried out through direct mail and email, leading on the continued development of mass fundraising to engage both existing and potential supporters, including high donors, regular givers and church communities.
b. Manage and develop CBM UKs donor acquisition activity in collaboration with the Marketing Officer (Acquisition), using channels such as social media, magazine inserts, press advertising, email and telephone.
c. Oversee the delivery of CBM UKs legacy and in-memoriam giving plans and campaigns.
d. Identify and consider new income streams and broaden the channels used currently for direct response campaigns to reach an agreed balance of long-term value versus risk.

Digital marketing (40%)
Grow digital engagement and income from new and existing supporters:
a. Lead on Pay Per Click strategy, including agency management and development of internal capabilities.
b. Oversee CBM UK’s paid social media activity.
c. Collaborate with the Communications Team to optimise the performance (traffic and income) of fundraising pages, including appeal and donation pages, churches and community, legacy, and in memoriam giving. Ensuring fundraising pages on the CBM website are engaging to existing and new audiences and where appropriate, utilising Search Engine Optimisation tools where appropriate.

d. Explore and make use of new and existing digital platforms and partners, such as Dataro and SEMrush, while promoting a culture of testing, innovation and learning within the digital space.

Leadership and people management (10%)
a. Support and inspire direct reports in line with CBM UK’s staff management policies and procedures. Ensure team members are appropriately trained, briefed and motivated to achieve their objectives and meet targets and recruit to posts where relevant. Regular 121s and appraisal reviews.
Planning and reporting (10%)
a. Monitor and report on fundraising appeals, identifying opportunities for future testing and optimisation, and contribute to the creation of annual planning, budgeting, and the setting of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
b. Work closely with the Data and Insight team to ensure strong joint working on technical solutions related to campaign analysis, tracking and insights across digital systems, such as the website, donation platform and CRM (Salesforce).
c. Plan, deliver and report on campaigns/projects within an agreed budget.

Other
a. Ensure the consistent use of CBMs brand, key messages and style guide across all fundraising activities.
b. Maintain awareness of and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to direct marketing, including Fundraising Regulator guidance, and Data Protection legal requirements (GDPR and PECR).
c. Collaborate with colleagues across CBM UK and the CBM Global Federation, to support integrated and partnership based working.
d. Help foster a positive and inclusive culture of enthusiasm and success, reflecting the ambitions of CBM, and promoting positive working and innovation.

We’re looking for a Finance Officer to join our close-knit finance team. You will work closely with the Financial Controller on the charity’s accounting, financial reporting and budgeting processes. This is an exciting role - you’ll be working on reports for some of the charity’s key stakeholders, from the staff who lead our centres through to members of the Senior Management Team and external funders.

Experience of finance is not a prerequisite – rather, we are looking for skills, aptitude and potential. However, you must be able to demonstrate a high level of numeracy, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a good knowledge of Microsoft Excel is important.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Devices Co-ordinator to join the Clinical Asset Team. Your role is to support the Medical Devices Safety Engineer in pro-actively delivering maintenance responses, updating jobs on the CAFM system, ensuring compliance and asset management systems are up to date at all times.

Role Requirements

• Provide operational assistance to all matters pertaining to clinical assets including compliance, asset management, service management and lifecycle management.
• Ensure clinical assets onsite are compliant or taken out of service.
• Allocate jobs to the appropriate contractor, using CAFM systems to create a document trail and manage frequently broken items, escalating issues to the Medical Devices Safety Engineer as appropriate.

• Updating compliance system with relevant documents for compliance and tracking purposes (including those for Therapy items)
• Participating in the CAWG (Clinical Asset Working Group) and chairing and minute taking in absence of the Medical Devices Safety Officer

• First response to clinical asset jobs coming through to the Helpdesk, co-ordinating with clinical staff at the scene, ensuring the appropriate response is carried out.

• React to orders and PPMs and within set SLA timeline, ensuring ongoing monitoring. Supporting the Medical Devices Safety Engineer in development of new PPMs.

About the role

As a Finance Business Partner, you will have responsibility for the leading the annual budget setting process for the organisation – circa. £8m.

Job Title: Housing Support Worker

Location: Luton, floating support service based within the office and around different locations within the community

Salary: £24,500

Shift Pattern: 12 month fixed term contract, 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00. You may be required to work outside these hours as necessary to service requirements.

About the role

This is an exciting new role within a brand new contract to support the referral process from the Housing Solutions teams! The service focuses on providing floating and wraparound support to single applicants who are at risk of homelessness and are able to live independently, by providing a housing support plan towards resolving housing needs and support them into long-term, stable housing.

In this role, you will conduct proactive outreach with our participants to develop personalised support plans for housing for appropriate long-term housing options, including accessing private rental listings and understanding application processes for tenancy. You will help our participants navigate the resources available to them including benefits and support services, advocating for their needs whilst empowering them to take ownership of their housing journey. You will work closely with the Landlord Liaison Officer who bridges the gap between our participants and private landlords. You will work closely with them to achieve prevention and relief outcomes by assisting the participant to remain in their provided accommodation. 

You will provide follow up support to ensure tenancy sustainment and successful transitions into permanent housing, keeping casefiles up to date with activities and documents, and escalating any high risks or high needs to the management team.

About you

This role is ideal for someone who has a real passion towards helping to end the cycle of homelessness, providing support to those who need it to live in stable accommodation. You will thrive in a person centred environment with real compassion and a non-judgmental attitude, understanding that people face different life experiences and sometimes just need that extra support to get back on their feet. We're looking for someone with a genuine passion and felt purpose to help people, challenge stigma, and make a real difference to people’s lives! You will have:
