They are recruiting for a new position, a Chief Operating Officer, to support the CEO, having overall accountability for the organisation’s operations. The COO will play a pivotal role in implementing their strategy, aimed at improving operational efficiency and diversifying income streams.

Chief Operating Officer 

£60,000-£65,000 + benefits  

Hybrid working, 2 days in the office in Coventry

The COO will ensure that ways of working are as effective as possible, enabling the team to meet their ambitions and modernise their internal operations and governance, freeing up capacity for the CEO to build strong relationships with donors and partners working with communities.

Key responsibilities include: 

• Play a central role as a member of the executive team in the overall leadership, strategic direction and governance of the Foundation. 
• Work with the whole team to implement the organisational strategy and business plan.

• Lead on the development of the grant making strategy, ensuring processes are efficient, compliant and deliver an outstanding experience for applicants and donors.
• Oversee the day-to-day operational management of the Foundation, ensuring systems, policies and processes are appropriate and effective.

• Oversee fundholder relationships, demonstrating value and impact whilst overseeing performance against programme delivery commitments.

• Oversee research, insight and impact inputs and ensure effective horizon scanning for emerging trends and technologies.

• Oversee HR and marketing strategies to strengthen the culture and visibility.

As COO, you will have a strong commitment to the mission and values of the foundation, with a passion for making a difference to the lives of people in the West Midlands and Warwickshire. You will need Senior management experience within a nonprofit, charitable or comparable grant-making organisation, evidenced by successful strategic planning and execution.

Working with a committed and talented team, the Finance Officer is responsible for:

- Recording transactions in our accounting software (Iplicit) and keeping financial records accurate and up to date

- Preparing payments and liaising with banks and payment platforms

- Supporting month-end reporting, reconciliations, and management accounts

- Assisting with annual audit preparation

- Working closely with colleagues across Peace Direct to ensure grants and programmes are well supported

About You: We’re looking for someone who is:

• Educated to A level and/or working towards a relevant accounting qualification
• Enthusiastic about finance and accounting
• Has good attention to detail
• Accurate, organised, and systematic in their approach
• Able to meet deadlines and keep finance systems up to date

In short, we’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running, bring their prior experience to the table, and thrive with minimal supervision.

We will coordinate with the Finance Officer Cover for a handover to ensure a smooth transition between the outgoing and incoming Finance Officers.

Here's what the team will be looking for

You demonstrate strong knowledge and/or relevant qualifications in housing and homelessness legislation, including the Housing Act and Homelessness Reduction Act, with a sound understanding of welfare benefits, welfare reform and Health & Safety regulations.

You have experience preventing and relieving homelessness, with practical skills in securing accommodation in the private rented sector, navigating tenancy agreements, understanding landlord–tenant relationships and local housing markets.

You have a proven ability to manage and support staff, including inductions, supervision, training, motivation, and handling grievance matters professionally. You also have solid safeguarding knowledge and can apply procedures effectively to protect clients.

You are confident coordinating work across multiple agencies, meeting deadlines through effective communication, organisation and leadership. You can build and negotiate strong partnerships to enhance services and secure positive outcomes for clients.

Highly self-motivated and able to work under pressure, you manage competing priorities effectively. You possess strong literacy, numeracy and record-keeping skills, with the ability to analyse information and communicate clearly with external agencies. You are flexible and willing to work outside office hours and travel when required.

We are looking for a Digital Innovation Lead to position us at the cutting-edge of digital, locally based storytelling about the climate transition.

The Digital Innovation Lead will deploy audience and platform insight, social listening, and restless creativity. They will ensure our digital storytelling has scale, reach and narrative-shaping impact in its own right, and as a complement and added dimension to our existing, sector-leading print, broadcast and online journalism.

We want someone who can work collaboratively to challenge our assumptions and try new things, while holding on to what makes the Exchange’s storytelling special: our authenticity and people-first approach.

Key responsibilities  

• Shape and deliver a digital innovation strategy that harnesses the Exchange’s USP and place-based focus to impactfully engage audiences, share stories, and measurably influence local narratives.

• Working with the Executive Director and Head of Programmes, secure partnerships and funding to put the strategy into practice – ranging from partnering with local influencers and campaign groups, to national media platforms, data platforms, or creative tech collaborators, and more.

About this Opportunity

As our High Value Executive, you will work closely with the High Value Relationships team across philanthropy, corporate and event fundraising. Approximate split is 45% philanthropy, 45% corporate and 10% events.

This role requires a candidate with strong relationship management, communication and organisation skills, who is able to work across a range of relationships and activities concurrently. You will also ideally have previous experience of managing projects, campaigns or other cross -team collaborative activities, and of using creative packages to produce engaging presentations and reports. 

Philanthropy:

You will assist the High Value Relationships Manager and the Head of High Value Relationships with research to create a prospect pipeline. For existing high-value supporters, you will ensure excellent stewardship by maintaining records and reporting and assisting with thanking, impact reports and proposals.

Corporate:

You will contribute to building long-term, sustainable and mutually beneficial relationships with businesses. You will be responsible for assisting the High Value Relationship Manager in providing high-quality account management to Born Free’s growing portfolio of corporate partners and supporting the High Value Relationships Manager and Head of High Value Relationships in developing new business to increase our income and impact.

Events:

You will attend Born Free events (4-5 per year) where you will be confident in networking with high-value supporters and, in the lead up to the events, help, when needed, with sourcing prizes for raffles and auctions.

The successful candidate should ideally demonstrate the following attributes: 

• A minimum of one year in a relationship management and/or fundraising-related role
• Strong interpersonal and account management skills
• Strong timekeeping skills and highly organised, with the ability to plan, prioritise and meet concurrent deadlines
• Professional with strong presentation and communication skills, including use of design programs to create visually impressive pitches, proposals and reports

Key Responsibilities

• Lead investigations under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (POCA), targeting money laundering and illicit financial flows.
• Manage confiscation processes, including cash seizures, restraint orders, and court representation.
• Apply powers under POCA and the Criminal Finances Act 2017, including Account Freezing Orders (AFOs) and listed asset provisions.
• Execute account forfeiture and production orders under POCA sections 303Z(1) and 378.
• Work independently under pressure, meeting tight deadlines and travelling when required.

Essential Criteria

• Current Accredited Financial Investigator (NCA) status.
• Proven experience in POCA investigations and complex money-laundering cases.
• Strong confiscation and court representation skills.
• Familiarity with Criminal Finances Act tools and POCA powers.
• Ability to operate autonomously in high-stakes environments.

• Maximise POCA powers to support enforcement objectives.
