What will I be doing?
We have a twelve-month fixed term opportunity for you to join us as a Gift Associate in our Philanthropy directorate. This role will support the front-line fundraising work of principal gift fundraisers for the Francis Crick Institute (the Crick). We need you to coordinate the work streams for frontline activities on behalf of the principal gifts programme including assisting with donor communications; developing gift proposals and liaising across internal teams to advance principal gift activity at the direction of and on behalf of principal gifts. Additionally, you will assist with meeting coordination and the creation of meeting briefs, notes, and other supporting materials.
This is an exciting time to join the CRUK philanthropy team, as we prepare to launch an ambitious multi-million-pound fundraising campaign in 2024.This role will support activity and projects to ensure we can meet expected outcomes during this period of growth.
Key duties include:
Support the senior principal gift fundraiser(s) in all aspects of frontline fundraising activity, including the organising and preparation for donor meetings and events, preparation of briefings, meeting collateral, and relevant materials, preparation of file notes, contact reports, and prospect updating of the database, as required. This may involve travel and itinerary planning.
Work with the Prospect Research team and fundraisers across the Crick to assist in identifying engagement, cultivation and stewardship opportunities for prospects, helping to track donor cultivation and solicitation steps.
Work with frontline fundraisers to draft briefings for leadership and volunteers.
Oversee the active use of the database (Siebel) to record and track donor activity on behalf of the principal gift fundraisers. Work with appropriate CRUK colleagues to maintain a donor and prospect tracker for the fundraisers; work with colleagues from Services to produce reports and other data to inform the tracker and fundraisers; and review lists for donor recognition, event invitations, and other oversight of donor data.
Support the frontline fundraisers in creating regular and effective movement through the supporter journey for identified prospects. This will involve supporting the development and execution of individual moves management plans and strategies, drafting correspondence and helping execute opportunities for engagement.
What skills are we looking for?
We're looking for candidates with experience of project management from either the higher education or charity sectors. You'll have strong stakeholder management skills and be able to work well under pressure, managing multiple tasks.
Knowledge and experience of fundraising and working in a fundraising operation. Familiarity with basic fundraising principles and strategies.
Excellent customer service skills (donor-centric).
Excellent project management and organisation skills with strong attention to detail; excellent writing skills with strong comfort with technology (knowledge of databases, Excel, PowerPoint and other platforms).
Demonstrated experience of successful multi-tasking against often competing deadlines.
Ability to synthesize large amounts of information and make a recommendation; ability to track down information from a variety of sources; ability to evaluate problems accurately and display good, sound, and confidential judgment.
Excellent stakeholder management and people skills and ability to work with, and communicate effectively and professionally with, a wide range of individuals. Able to influence and persuade others.
Curiosity to learn and interest in major gift fundraising; motivated and excited by science and the opportunity to be part of the Crick's and/or CRUK's campaign and growing philanthropy effort.
Highly professional, flexible and committed to going above and beyond the remit of the role to achieve and exceed targets. Prepared to take on a wide variety of tasks. Have a "can do" attitude and a demonstrated ability to problem solve. Ability to anticipate challenges and address them quickly.

What will I be doing?

Use expertise to inform and support the strategic planning of the Supporter Experience framework, delivering an events programme which is aligned to it.

Manage relationships with senior CRUK stakeholders in relation to the development of the events team's strategy and the implementation of events, to include informing, consulting, and influencing.

What skills will I need?
Significant events management experience, ideally in the context of delivering events that enable high value fundraising through relationship-building.

Key duties:
Manage a portfolio of 80 - 120 prospects and donors with a primary focus on raising gifts of £100,000 - £1m
Identify new prospects, qualify their potential, and maximise their value to CRUK through personal giving and unlocking their talent as a senior volunteer
Inspire prospects to support CRUK through developing strategic engagement and stewardship journeys, moving through the full cycle of giving and renewal
Build robust and collaborative relationships with internal colleagues including Fundraising Intelligence, Science Engagement and Donor Relations to manage the pipeline and deliver an exceptional donor experience, particularly as we build towards the launch of our new campaign
Partner with leadership, including scientific leadership and Philanthropy colleagues to develop and implement strategies for gifts of £100,000 - £1m and provide guidance to senior leadership on prospect strategies
Develop a strong working knowledge of the work that CRUK supports, in particular our campaign priorities of Future Leaders, the Francis Crick Institute, Cancer Grand Challenges and Translation & Innovation. Work closely with colleagues to develop proposals and gift opportunities
With support from CRUK Heads of Philanthropy, and the Leadership Giving Lead, contribute to the fundraising strategies for Leadership Giving
Provide regular reporting and track metrics to ensure the portfolio remains on track to deliver organisational goals
Support the Leadership Giving Lead to deliver the strategy and operational plans through the above channels, proactively spotting opportunities to support growth and add value.
What skills are we looking for?
We're looking for a professional and proactive Senior Philanthropy Manager with extensive experience of soliciting gifts from both warm and cold prospects at the six and seven figure level.
You'll also bring -
Demonstrable examples of your experience of soliciting gifts of £100,000 to £1m
Significant experience of working across complex organisations, navigating ambiguity
Proven track record of major gift fundraising in the voluntary sector or similar transferable experience gained in the commercial sector, including having met/exceeded KPIs and financial targets over a sustained period
Proven experience of building effective long-term relationships with high net worth individual stakeholders and/or senior volunteers to deliver significant income and value-generating activity
Excellent stakeholder management skills; the ability to work, communicate and influence effectively and professionally with internal colleagues, institutional leaders, external collaborators and high net worth individuals amongst others
Working knowledge of the principals of major gift fundraising to include identification, research, solicitation and stewardship
Experience of raising funds for medical research desirable
The intellectual curiosity to understand complex scientific areas of research, and the ability to communicate the same in an engaging, donor friendly style

This is a fantastic opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation for Cancer Research UK's Trading Operations. We opened our first, Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) based in Warrington in May 2023, we are now ready to open our second based in Fleet, Guildford. This operation is set to be even bigger at 23,000 sq foot. To lead the team we are looking for an experienced Warehouse Manager to deliver the successful startup and running of this new operation. You will also be responsible for the management of a team of circa sixteen as well as managing on-site volunteers as required. You will be the most senior person onsite, therefore responsible for all facilities as well as health and safety.
The RDC will be a multi-functional site with the aim to optimise both Cancer Research UK's retail and online marketplace operations. The team will support circia 100 shops and superstores by sorting textile and non-textile inbound stock into specific categories, preparing and dispatching to shops and superstores meeting insight lead fulfilment schedules. The team will also sort, photograph, list, and dispatch stock sold on online marketplaces such as eBay. You will ensure the team achieve specific income and listing KPI's and ensuring timely and secure dispatch to customers. This is a unique Warehouse and Logistics role in that you are dealing with donated stock and working with very manual systems. There is also a big part of the role that uses your relationship management skills as you will build strong working relationships with the area and divisional manages for the patch of shops that you supply.
We are looking for someone who wants to use their skills and experience to make a real difference by growing a key income steam for our life saving research. .
You must have experience of managing the workflow of any non-perishable stock in a warehouse or depot and managing the productivity of a team to ensure all processes are optimised. You will also be an experienced people manager, who is able to both encourage their team to reach their potential but also feels comfortable using HR policies and procedures for guidance on a range of employment issues.
It's a fast paced dynamic warehouse environment so you will need to be comfortable with ambiguity. You will also be surrounded by people who are as dedicated to beating cancer as you are.
What will I be doing?

Line management of c.16 RDC staff and volunteers including the RDC Supervisor, responsible for objective setting and development of all on site staff (inclusive of volunteers).

What skills are you looking for?
