Cats Protection’s 10 year growth strategy has innovation at it’s core. A relatively new function within Cats Protection, you will be working closely with stakeholders to deliver income growth to help make a difference to cat’s lives. You will be joining the team at an exciting time as we shape and build innovation across the directorate and organisation.
Responsibilities of our Senior Innovation Officer:
The Senior Innovation Officer is responsible for supporting the Innovation Manager to deliver overall Income Generation targets by working across the directorate to manage innovation and new product development. The Senior Innovation Officer is responsible for leading innovation cycles and sprints using an insight led innovation approach to develop new products and optimise existing activity. They will identify, plan and develop new opportunities from end to end; from insight gathering and analysis to conducting pilots and stakeholder management. The Senior Innovation Officer will develop a pipeline of activities and products to acquire, convert and steward a range of different fundraising audiences across all income streams, producing a cohesive portfolio, fit for providing sustainable income for the charity.
What we’re looking for in our Senior Innovation Officer
- Experience of using an insight led innovation process to develop new and existing products from idea to pilot stage to drive income, ideally within fundraising
- Knowledge of innovation sector, trends, and new product development across the sector
- Experience of supporting the delivery of an Innovation Strategy
- Significant experience of project management, including stakeholder management and innovation projects
- Experience of developing and championing innovation culture and ways of working across an organisation and significant relationship building experience

We have ambitious plans to significantly expand and further enhance our online retail proposition in the next 12-24 months.
Responsibilities of our Retail Online Hub Manager:
As Retail Online Hub Manager, you will lead, develop and manage the donated online hub operation in order to maximise our donated online income stream. As well as driving income, you will also manage expenditure to maximise the profit contribution from the online hub. You hold line management responsibility for the Online Sales Listers and be responsible for a group of volunteers who support our online operation.
What we’re looking for in our Retail Online Hub Manager:
- Experience of managing a multi-channel e-commerce operation
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance related to online trading
- Experience of managing budgets and working to targets
- Excellent people management skills
- Excellent organisational skills and business acumen

The Community Neutering Assistant role is incredibly important within our Neutering team and you will be helping us fulfil one of the charity's main objectives.
Responsibilities of our Community Neutering Assistant:
As a Community Neutering Assistant you will be supporting our Community Neutering Officers to deliver and facilitate our regional neutering projects and initiatives to local communities. These could be rural communities and/or those of multiple disadvantage and you will need to be sensitive to the needs of all stakeholders. You will be making a real difference to the cats and kittens, enabling them to lead happier and healthier lives. You will be assisting with the trapping, neutering and transporting of feral cats, helping recruit and support volunteers, working with stakeholders and facilitating collaboration. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a positive individual to join our team as a Senior Project Accountant. You will join us working 35 hours per week, on a permanent basis and will be based remotely. In return you will receive a competitive salary of up to £49,328.20 per annum plus excellent benefits.
This role can be based from home or based at Cats Protection's National Cat Centre, Chelwood Gate, on the edge of Ashdown Forest. This is a remote location and public transport is limited. If you choose to be home based there will still be some travel to the National Cat Centre required, roughly once or twice a month, please bear this in mind when applying.

The Finance Directorate has a highly skilled team of employees with responsibility for financial accounting and transaction processing, management accounting and reporting, forecasting and budgeting, and payroll. The Charity has an annual revenue budget of £75m and operates a trading subsidiary with income in excess of £2.0m per annum. The team processes around 5,000 supplier payments and 150,000 neutering vouchers per year. In addition, they run a payroll for over 1,000 staff and support over 220 branches and their volunteer treasurers, as well as providing financial advice and support to the 36 centres and a chain of over 100 shops.
Responsibilities of our Senior Project Accountant:
As our Senior Project Accountant you will provide strategic and operational financial management advice and guidance in relation to projects, across the organisation. There are eight current directorates that you will support in the production of business cases, ensuring there are robust financials within them which allows executive management and/or Trustee board to make effective decisions. You will monitor all agreed projects through their delivery and into benefits realisation is also an important factor of this role to ensure the appropriate financial governance is in place, and that any issues impacting the finances and/or benefits realisation of a project are appropriately flagged, and the deliverables identified in the business case are realised..
What we’re looking for in our Senior Project Accountant:
- A qualified accountant
- Significant experience of financial project management along with financial management, including drafting financial models, budgeting, analyzing financial information and correction.
- Confident with investment appraisal techniques
- Experience of working in a complex operating environment and working with multiple stakeholders
- Knowledge of how to produce a business case
- Excellent communication skills, both in writing and verbally, ability to challenge stakeholders where needed and maintain positive working relationships

Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity with a nationwide network of adoption and homing centres, volunteer-run branches and charity shops. During 2020, despite all of the challenges, we helped 126,000 cats and kittens. That's the equivalent of around 345 cats a day!
Our adoption and homing centres care for thousands of cats each year until they are able to find a loving new home. In 2020 27,000 cats were rehomed,15,000 of these through our hand-free homing service, and 1,900 more reunited with their owners. This success would not be possible without our dedicated team of employees and volunteers. Dealing with thousands of visitors each month, our centres are the face of Cats Protection and we pride ourselves on our employees providing the very best in animal welfare and customer service.
Responsibilities of our Cat Care Assistant:
As a Cat Care Assistant, you will work to meet Cats Protections’ aims and values by providing first class care for the cats in our centres. You will be responsible for cleaning the sleeping quarters, feeding cats and taking care of specific individual needs. You will respond to enquiries from the general public, advise and educate potential new owners in the care and welfare of their cats.
What we’re looking for in our Cat Care Assistant:
- A full, manual driving license is essential
- An excellent communicator with strong organisational skills
- A strong, flexible team player
- Lots of energy teamed with a positive upbeat attitude
- Experience working with or handling cats is desirable

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our growing Advocacy and Government Relations team as an Campaigns & Advocacy Officer to support and implement an effective programme of advocacy work across the UK, with a focus on Cats Protection’s public facing advocacy campaigns and advocacy related issues within communities across the country. You will join us working 35 Hours per week, on a permanent basis and will be based remotely. In return you will receive a competitive salary of up to £33,884.72 per annum plus excellent benefits.
Although this role is remote, please note there will be an expectation of regular visits to Cats Protection's National Cat Centre, Chelwood Gate, on the edge of Ashdown Forest. This is a remote location and public transport is limited, a driving license is essential for this role. The Advocacy & Government Relations team leads for the charity on influencing decision makers and those whose policies, practices and decisions affect cat welfare across the UK. The team works to influence legislators, professional organisations and corporates. The team’s work has included publishing ‘The Time is Meow: A cat welfare action plan for Westminster’ following the 2019 election, launching a “Purrfect Landlords” campaign to encourage landlords to allow cats and calling for compulsory microchipping of cats across the UK. The team has run digital campaigns as part of its strategy for a number of years but is now looking to increase capacity and build a stronger level of engagement with our campaigners.
Responsibilities of our Campaigns & Advocacy Officer:
As our Campaigns & Advocacy Officer, you’ll be focusing on Cats Protection’s public facing advocacy campaigns. You will work to deliver effective public facing campaigns at a national and local level focussed on the advocacy teams core objectives. You will be creating and implementing effective campaign plans as well as producing campaign content for a variety of different mediums. This will involve a mixture of digital campaigning, and also leading on advocacy issues within local communities, by engaging with stakeholders and key decision makers. You will also be responsible for working with the Media, Web, Publications, Digital and Income Generation teams.
What we’re looking for in our Campaigns & Advocacy Officer:
- A strong understanding of the political landscape and experience of campaigning, advocacy, public affairs or influencing work
- Experience of working with volunteers/public supporters or campaigners
- Experience of digital campaigning and a strong understanding of how to motivate supporters/campaigners
- Proven ability to multi-task and work independently on own initiative, accurately and under pressure
- Experience of effective use of social media and the internet in an advocacy/campaign context
- An organised individual with good written, oral and great people skills

The Data team, based in the Marketing & Income Generation directorate, focuses on data processing, data selections and data analysis. The Data team has grown over the last couple of years due to significant charity growth. The Data Team sits within the newly formed Income Generation Operations team however the data team provides a service to the whole of the Marketing & Income Generation directorate as well as other parts of the organisation.
Responsibilities of our Data Analyst:
As Data Analyst you will be responsible for delivering an excellent service to our internal stakeholders, assessing how analysis can support and enable their strategic plans by interpreting and predicting their marketing, research, and insight requirements. You will support the Lead Data Analyst with the implementation, development and application of innovative systems, processes, models, and analytical tools to gain a robust understanding of supporter behaviour to ensure product, channel, timing, content and action is absolutely right for every supporter.

- At least three years’ experience working with a contacts database
- Significant database marketing experience with use and manipulation of data structures with a relational database management system

The People and Engagement Directorate provide all aspects of L&D, recruitment, workforce planning, employee lifecycle support and HR advice and guidance to Cats Protection employees and volunteers. There are over 44 employees based within the team, and this role sits within the People Services strand which is made up of nine people.
Responsibilities of our HR Officer:
As a HR Officer you will support the People Services Supervisor in delivering a quality service to all employees in Cats Protection. You will manage and complete employee life cycle processes and services administered via the HR system known as MEOW. Ensure payroll documentation is accurately prepared in line with payroll cut off. You will undertake and actively contribute to HR team projects in order to deliver the People Plan as directed.
What we’re looking for in our HR Officer:
- CPP Qualified
- proven experience of working as a HR Officer or an experienced HR Assistant
- strong experience in the delivery of endto-end transactional HR administration activities associated with the employment and payroll cycle
- proven background of HR experience in a multisite organisation
